  1. Like Dana Ford, took a step back record-wise this year.
  2. Even better year this year
  3. Just started reading these, got excited. Then I realized they're from last year......wah wah.
  4. Name one local player that played for us that significantly improved our attendance. Name one local player that opened up any sort of pipeline to that school. That fallacy has been making the rounds for twenty years and has never bore out once. NOT ONCE. Transfers have rarely worked out. Does that many we shouldn't take any? No, but it does mean we should be prudent on how many we take and the reason for taking them. Having gone to a local high school isn't one of those reasons, it's not even on the top ten. I don't care how many stars or accolades someone had in high school. If you can't even break into the rotation at your position at a mid-level P5 for years, there's a reason. Certainly questions to be asked. Giving away scholarships is one of the reasons we are in such dire straits numbers-wise. The idea that we should give away scholarships based on being a local ambassador is preposterous, and more importantly, bad for the program.
  5. Similar to the smash n grab jobs from the coaches we've hired?
  6. Sort of the mantra for being a North Texas fan.
  7. From the bitching in this thread I guess McCarney was right. Woe is us. #Imnotbuyingit
  8. But never at dusk! NEVER AT DUSK!
  9. I hear what you're saying and not disagreeing there's a chance at 9-3 he gets hired away but Brohm had to go 30-10 at WKU to get hired by Purdue. PURDUE!!! He went 12-2 in 2015 and didn't get any offers. I'd say it's likely even with your scenario Littrell doesn't go anywhere after next year.
  10. My theory is it has nothing to do with donors. RV didn't want to fire another one of his hires and got away with it due to changes at the UNT President's position. In fact I think that explains a lot of the buffoonery of the past few years. RV selling the upper administration on his bad bill of goods. The accounting mess/distraction probably didn't help. With all of that behind us and stability with Smatresk there really are no excuses. Looking at you Wren.
  11. Then Wren and company need to raise the money.
  12. It just came out that Baylor gets $30mil a year from the Big 12. We get what, a million from CUSA. You can use any measurement you want, but the money discrepancy will always make it tough to keep coaches. It's my opinion that until we build a solid program foundation where we have a solid and engaged fan base, have a run of bowl appearances, and change the perception of UNT throughout the high school community in Texas, we'll still keep spinning our wheels. And this will take a little time. Unfortunately RV was allowed to stay around too long and just keep the ship afloat (or even take on water) instead of moving us forward. Let's hope Wren and company are different. I'm not saying it will be easy but to me it's not impossible. Hell, maybe not even difficult. But the people in the athletic department need to be hell-bent on making it happen. Which won't if we keep doing the status-quo.
  13. While staff continuity on a whole is a good thing.....everybody on this staff is replaceable. No excuses this time, Wren, Littrell and company gotta do whatever it takes to keep moving the ball forward.
  14. While it bothers me emotionally to lose so many games, it bothers me more intellectually that we have a department at UNT that is so poorly mismanaged. Im not sure Wren fully comprehends the frustration of the fan base extends beyond wins and losses.
  15. Actually one of Dickey's classes he signed 7 State 100 recruits (help me out @Cerebus, I think that's right). Also we got a few players we knew were going to be good. Buckles, Booger, Spencer, Pruitt, and others. Were they amazing classes? No, but there were some studs you couldn't wait to watch play. I don't live in the DFW area anymore but the DMN's recruiting rankings at the time were great.
  16. I don't think asking WB and company to push the brand a little harder is pushing the panic button. Only thing worse than an overreaction (and there has been a bit of an overreaction to this recruiting class) is an overreaction the other way. Plus I'm not big on comparing us to P5 schools. Regardless, I think most people accept it's going to take time. But if you're expecting everybody to not have an opinion after recruiting classes, losses, and other measuring points along the way, I think that's the unrealistic point.
  17. You don't promote the teams, you promote the brand. Which is why you take the focus off performance and put it somewhere else. Somewhere fun.
  18. Why do you have to spend a ton of money? I'm not talking about advertising. I used to work for a company that did promotions all the time. Of every shape and size. And most of it costs little money.
  19. Is that opinion or fact? If he needs to have the money before doing anything creative, he's at the wrong place.
  20. I agree but I'm talking the little things. A web video series. A contest. New mean green wear or products. Cabanas on the field. Something.
  21. Simon wasn't great at anything. Truly the weirdest coaching stint at UNT. Picking a fight with Army. Stolen towels and VCRs. The Safeway quote. He once yelled at me on Eagle Point when I told him it was cool to take a mulligan. Heard way too many crazy behind the scenes story. Then again he beat Tech and gave A$M one hell of a half. And promptly got fired.
  22. I believe Armour and Waters were recruited by Simon and were long gone by the time most of the players you list were on the two deep. Still don't understand how Baker didn't stick around longer in the NFL. He had a cannon for a leg. Also, I don't judge those teams by who played in the NFL. We had some ballers who didn't get a whiff from the league.
  23. No worries on the rant but I think you've proven the point. I'm not interested in pointing fingers, but at the end of the day it is WB's responsibility.
  24. Meh, I could care less about votes. I'm more interested if people think it's the ADs job to promote the program when times are tough. Because I'm not seeing anything.
