  1. I agree recruiting is the most important thing right now. But if winning has to come before we can get recruits to come here, then we hired the wrong coach and staff. I can't see a big difference in 4-8 and 6-6 when it comes to recruiting. Hell, Littrell should have most of his class lined up before the season ends.
  2. Why is that? Worse than what Mac did to us? I still think it takes until year three at minimum to get us over the .500 hump. Most turnarounds take a few years. I'm thinking 4-8 or 5-7 and keeping the expectations low until it's proven we can block anybody and get decent quarterback play. The talent level across the board just isn't there yet and I can be patient but the recruiting/coaching of players has to get better. Like you said in another post, most optimism right now is based on hope. If anybody is predicting 8-4, they might want to go back and watch the UTEP game highlights...er, lowlights.
  3. Been here for 24 years. People can talk about money, budgets, facilities, conference-affiliation, fan support and whatever else excuse you can come up for not winning. The reason for the failure of UNT Athletics is nothing but poor decision-making and gutless leadership. And letting Benford coach this year, much less finishing out the season is at the top of that list. Whether it was the firing of RV, Helwig, Trilli, Benford, Dodge, or Mac, UNT let it get to the worst possible point before making a move. It had to get to rock bottom before deciding enough was enough. You can have all the shiny buildings you want, you don't fix that, nothing changes.
  4. Down by 22. I find it amazing that most of the assumptions on GMG lean towards the positive outcome while a majority of the actions of UNT over the past fifteen years have leaned toward negative outcomes. Which is how you get a half-assed AD sticking around for fifteen years, a horrible BB coach for five, and a fan base in a state of panic if a five-win coach leaves.
  5. More proof we have the most ignorant fanbase in college athletics. Arkansas State had to hire four coaches in four years and they're still winning. Boise State had to hire four coaches in nine years and they are the gold standard for G5s. If we lose a coach who won five games, the world falls apart. This kind of thinking is why RV was here so damn long.
  6. No worries though, we're flying around tweeting pictures from private jets.
  7. Down by 17 at the half at home to a 8-20 team. Personally Army of Dad I don't think it has anything to do with caring, it's just plain old incompetence. And that is worse than not caring.
  8. Can't say I blame you. Hard to make a case when we're already down by 13 in the first half. Make that fifteen.
  9. I prefer Godsmack's "Bad Religion." Being a North Texas fan is having a lot of faith and not much to show for it. Stick around A of D. We can't suck forever.
  10. He recruited a highly rated kid out of Dallas (Robert ?) that raised some eyes but if I remember right that kid did pan out too well. It seemed like Jank had a mish-mash of athletes and more shooter/slow tempo types. I looked up his record his last year and he lost some close games. The BW was pretty good that year too. I don't remember thinking he should be fired but I wasn't all gung ho about the future either. He did beat Rice and A$M his last year.
  11. Not trying to pick a fight but were you here after Mac's first season? If I remember right the kool-aid was flowing.
  12. I think Littrell will work out fine but I gotta admit this stuff makes me shake my head. Guess it's part of the business and I should get used to it.
  13. Nothing sad about this in my opinion.
  14. He did ok in the SLC but his team struggled in the Big West. His teams weren't awful but that one year in the Big West it looked like things weren't going to get any better. He told his recruits he'd play uptempo but they played a vanilla style of basketball. A few weren't too happy. I guess compared to Benford he did okay but nothing about his teams or coaching showed any future success. Plus, he also had some off the court issues. Let's just say he need to mature a little bit.
  15. If only we had a place to practice indoors......
  16. Given up 53 pts in the second half with three mins to go.
  17. I salute you for these updates, and even more for your consistent attendance. Better man than I.
  18. I think Davis and Kiffin are going to be disasters. Might get them bowl-eligible but that's about it.
  19. Well, chime in and join the hyperbole party.
  20. You're making my point. Facilities didn't bring in a 4 star recruit that made a difference. A good coach brought in a diamond in the rough and coached him up. I'm not saying don't build an IPF. But I am saying while I'm wooing a donor to make a donation to the school I'd remind him that paying coaches makes more of a difference than a fancy locker room. And if that donor wants to contribute to both, even better. If you want to use the Boise comparison, they went through two successful head coaches who left before they got to Peterson. And they stepped up and paid him and his staff extremely well. If we follow that model, there might be a day when we can keep a coach like that around for a few extra years if we can pay him above and beyond. Just once before I pass on I want to see us have our Paxton Lynch carving up an SEC defense. How do we make that happen? You sure it was Florida A&M? He wouldn't be the first "White Tiger" but now I'm curious if that's the case.
  21. There are so many errors in this I don't know where to start. You do realize Miami OH has been absolutely horrible at football until their 6-7 record this year. They won 5 games in the previous three years. Haywood had one good year other than that their coaches have been abysmal. Memphis didn't get better because of facilities, they got better because of Justin Fuente. In the three years before Fuente they won five games and fired two coaches. Marshall has an IPF. Built in 2015. Finished 3-9 this year. Before they built it they were doing just fine. I'm sure it makes it easier to practice but their great quarterback made it easier to win. Northern Illinois went 46-10 from 2010-2013. In late 2013 they opened their IPF. The last two years they went 13-13. Maybe it was more that they had a run of great head coaches and quarterbacks than any facility. And finally, La Tech continues to succeed and beat our brains out in every high profile sport and we have better facilities. I could care less if we build a gazillion dollar IPF palace but the idea that these facilities produce any kind of cause and effect is utter nonsense. If it did, we'd have a better record than everybody with a worse stadium than Apogee. How's that worked out for us? So please tell me how Texas State out-recruited us. Troy too. As far as I can tell neither have an indoor facility and both have worse stadiums than us and are in a lower conference. Hell ULM was 20 spots higher than us in the recruiting rankings. As far as record and recruiting-wise since Apogee opened we're one of the worst programs in the country. Where's the effect? SL has been successful in turning us around- You do know he had the same first year record as Mac. I hope to the football gods SL is a great coach but turned us around? Hardly. He's still got a lot to prove. And I would rather do everything financially I could to keep and attract coaches rather than just say "well, they're going to go anyway' and use that money somewhere else. Coaches win. Coaches recruit. It's a people business, period. Finally, Portland State is FCS (I-AA)
  22. That's a simplistic view. Otherwise Kansas State wouldn't be beating up on Texas like they have the past few years. Or Boise beating any of the teams it has beaten. Facilities are nice but leadership, decision-making, and coaching are better. I'm not getting too worked up about the former until the latter is shown to be improved.
  23. I prefer "The Ledge" by the Replacements
  24. The early days of the Cuban regime is exactly what made me think of this. They had a bad product but did crazy marketing and jacked up the game day experience. With a bad team I was hoping the AD would throw a lot of promotions out there to see what might stick. You can be creative without spending a lot of money. I'm out of state so I don't see all the little things but after the staledom of the RV years I was hoping for more this year.
  25. Almost six months in and nothing much has come out of the athletic department. I don't get it. How does an AD take over right after a scathing report detailing the problems with program and then basically stay in the shadows. Post-report was the WORST time to project business as usual. Can't you put your stamp on SOMETHING in six months? Frustrated.
