  1. I disagree. I’m not completely on board with a merger but everything should be on the table. Because what CUSA is doing right now isn’t working and going status quo is asinine.
  2. Make up your f’n mind when there is going to be a review
  3. Outstanding catch by TSU. Loved the ref slow calling it.
  4. Seems like SMU is going with a vanilla game plan but Texas State is holding tough. Also TSU interior DLine playing well.
  5. Like the announcer said usually those are called incomplete. Maybe before I die I’ll learn what a catch is. Doubtful.
  6. Great....night before what will already be a weird season and the Mean Green fanbase is eating itself. I don't know what to expect tomorrow but I hope after months of craziness I'm pumped to watch NT football. I'm usually an insane eight year old on the night before Christmas on the eve of an UNT football season but right now I'm just UGH. Hopefully that changes when the ball gets kicked off tomorrow.
  7. Maybe you haven't been paying attention to how the world works lately but if you are in a public position, yes you lose your job. How many pro athletes get arrested then are cut by their teams? There are certainly a few exceptions but for the most part if the evidence looks bad, the employer isn't going to wait out the trial. And if that person does end up being found innocent, then they can get a job somewhere else. Hell, players at UNT have been dropped just by an arrest alone.
  8. **feel free to file this under "kneejerk overeaction" come the end of the year (maybe end of the week)** Picking who will go under center first by alphabetical order may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard of at North Texas and that's not a short list. Under a coach who is supposed to be an offensive mind, if you can't either coach one of these guys up to be the starter or one of them doesn't take the job (nevermind that that scenario alone is not confidence-inducing) THAN AT LEAST PICK ONE!!! I never thought I'd think this much less say this but I'm worried that GH was the actual brains for the offense (along with Mason) and SL can't run the offense. Not sure how we have brought in a plethora of QBs and we are using ALPHABETICAL ORDER to choose a starter. Prediction- the D is better than we thought and the O isn't. 4-7 Overreaction complete
  9. I thought this should have been done. If we played CUSA West and SBC West this year I think UTEP would be our longest trip. It would be tougher to do for the East teams but doable. Would have been something unique for one year and a way to save travel and the two leagues could've shared protocol. Instead we'll get something dum dum.
  10. NFL castaways at least have name recognition from a college career. The ONLY reason I watched the Dallas XFL games was because of Lance Dunbar. If you run out a bunch of high school players that only a very minor few know about, I don't know how you draw an audience. You better make the game experience awesome for the fans, because no one is watching minor league football on TV. Personally I think it should exists because I don't like forcing kids to go to college. It should be done for developmental reasons, not money making ones. But it won't happen, baseball owners are trying to get rid of at least 25% of minor league teams because they don't like paying the small sum for those operations. Owners have the big bucks so far be it for me to give them money advice but sometimes I don't think they see the forest through the trees when it comes to growing their perspective sports.
  11. You didn't address any of the issues I pointed out, especially that you think the P5 is one big happy family. It's not. None of the issues facing college sports (paying players, using players likeness without compensation, cheating, recruiting issues, not having a commissioner with enforcement powers, how to recover from the current situation, and more that I can't think of) go away with creating a new "NCAA." Not to mention the P5 UNIVERSITIES (oh yeah, there's that pesky mission of actually educating students, not running sports organizations) aren't made to do this. Kinda why they have someone else to do it. P5s already get all the football money, there's no money in all the so-called Olympic sports so the only thing left is basketball. I'm not sure if you split the money the NCAA gets from the tournament and allocate that to the P5 schools (divided by 64+ ways) it's worth the headache of creating a new NCAA. So far I've given you my reasons why it probably won't happen and all you've said is "Why would't they?" So how about you give me some reasons besides money (and you haven't said how much money that would be) to make me think there is some chance of this happening. I've just never seen anything laid out what the benefits are except it would get rid of the NCAA as we know it.
  12. I'm just preaching status quo until the tv contracts run out and even then I'm skeptical of anything big happening. If anything I think the pandemic keeps things as they are, not sure university presidents are going to go for big changes during uncertain times.
  13. I think we are on year six of your doom and gloom bit. Leave and do what? You think that if the P5s started over they would agree on anything? That the PAC12 and SEC would be willing to follow the same rules? Or suddenly the BIG10 would acquiesce to anything the Big12 or ACC would want? I'm highly skeptical. And who would run this organization? I can't think of anybody who has the clout and political skills to make everybody happy. The rules are barely followed now, would any rule be followed if the conferences were the ones who enforced the rules? Not a chance. Is the NCAA a bureaucratic mess? Absolutely. Does it need Emmert gone and massive reform? Yep. But the idea that the P5s could magically make this work by breaking off seems very far fetched to me. In a way it would be a fun, chaos experiment. I think schools like Miami and a variety of SEC schools would do WHATEVER it took to be successful. It'd make the 80s scandals look like Mister Roger's Neighborhood.
  14. I should bite my tongue on this but oh well. Towards the end of the 98 season I had a run in with Helwig and I don't remember how the conversation got on this subject but Helwig was complaining about Simon bringing in kids from California. I remarked back "yeah well we got Scott Blank from California." His reply was something about Scott Blanks grow on trees in Texas high school football. I walked away with the thought sealed that we were doomed with this dumbass leading our athletic department. Blank was first team all-conference and has the second leading season sack total in history against some pretty good teams. He caused havoc against A&M and OU. I don't care if we got him from Mars.
  15. Yes, you are wrong. First off, this was first "reported" on a tweet a week ago and I can't find any national sports site or PAC 12 city newspaper that has run a story on it. I read the Salt Lake Tribune almost daily and that paper runs anything on the Utes/Pac12 and not a peep. Not saying there isn't something out there but considering there wasn't a quote from these "players" or anything else, I'm not going to predict the end of college football because of a tweet followed up by blog posts. Also, IF ten to fifteen players are coming up with some agenda, it doesn't mean the other thousand plus players in the PAC12 will go along. In my lifetime I can count three or four "this is the end of college football as we know it" moments. And here we still are.
  16. That's Michael Hickman.
  17. Man, I don't want to see this, I was there and it broke my green heart. I know some people have a problem with Simon's decision but I thought it was a 50/50 call. My problem was with the OSU holding/PI on Troy Redwine on multiple deep balls.
  18. If you are Army you have only one choice and that is to stay independent. Their CUSA experience was a disaster. Right now they can schedule smart, have a pre-determined bowl waiting for them and keep their tv deal with CBSSN. There isn’t one benefit from joining the AAC. Look at their 2020 schedule. They’re almost guaranteed to make a bowl and they have OU coming to Michie. Having said that, look at BYU’s schedule. If you want to make your coach’s life miserable and NOT make a bowl, that’s how you do it.
  19. but I just saw it for the first time
  20. Why would any conference add teams right now? I don’t see any changes happening.
  21. Watching Erskin in a Longhorn uniform sucked.
  22. I would've put money down that a global pandemic would happen before common sense in college athletics. It's practical but call me skeptical.
