This. I’m far from Denton these days and I just get home and follow online. Shout out to those who fight traffic, Covid and all the obstacles to support the team in person. No one fan is better than the other but it is more special when you are invested night in and out and know the players and the families.

As I go to bed I just want to say this is the best night ever to be a North Texas fan. I’m a football guy, I love UNT football, but this is better than New Mexico State (both times), better than the New Orleans Bowl, better than beating Tech (barely) and better than all the rest. It just is. GMG.

My one man watching party had to scare the sh!t out of my neighbors. I didn’t know what to do as the clock ran down.

You know you’ve arrived when the Kpop bands are using #northtexas on Twitter to draw attention to their tweets

Stayed away from the board, too damn nervous to read. I admit, didn’t think we’d score enough to win. Having said that, I’ve been watching NT games for thirty years. Throw in the CUSA tournament (especially after we were down by seven to WKU) plus tonight and this is the gutsiest UNT team I’ve ever watched. I’m literally a giddy teenage girl right now.

Ballin second half by the fighting JJs.

Oh Vic, I’ll give you a little credit, you came and spoke to all ten of us at the old State Club. Even if you called us “Texas” a time or two. When we beat up and stole the Gauchos’ lunch money at their place I thought we were on our way....yeah, notsomuch.

I haven’t seen the line but it’s two sixteen seeds, would it be a big upset? Like most idiots I didn’t appreciate JJ til he was gone. I let the KSU game and WKU title game (although last week’s win helped soothe that) overshadow all he did here. Very much rooting for him tonight.

Anyone here remember the Jankovich era at UNT?
meanrob replied to stl.pony's topic in Mean Green Basketball
He had some, shall we say, maturity issues while at NT. Everybody liked him but there’s more than that to leading a program. He had a few good recruits, including a highly rated one from Carter (Robert Washington) but his roster was a mish mash of athletes and slow tempo guys. He beat a few in state programs but if I remember right he lost some guys when he slowed the tempo down. When we lost twice to Idaho his last year I remember thinking “this ain’t working.” I liked David Miller, Pooh, Sean and some of the other players on those teams. Then we brought in Mr. Texas and that didn’t work either. I felt really old when I read he’s 61. -
Get the f outta here with this crap. If any of the highest paid coaches in their respective conferences not only didn’t compete for a championship but had THREE STRAIGHT LOSING seasons, they’d either be fired or on the hot seat. And not one of those fan bases would be happy. I don’t care if it’s the Lone Star Conference. During the games in the chat you’re just as pissed off and frustrated as most of us. Then the off-season comes and you blow smoke everywhere. Last two years, rinse, repeat. If the inconsistency continues and he wins four or five games (highly likely), he needs to go. It’s the worst division in FBS, we’re not asking him to compete in the SEC West.

Having been on the board during most of the games I don’t remember a lot of excitement about the play calling. Especially in short yardage situations.

My first thought was “not much” but it’s possible the whole can be greater than the sum of the parts.

I think we all need to buckle in and realize this is the way it’s going to be for a while. To me, a solid coaching staff and infrastructure can deal with the changes. We might have to have a permanent position to work solely on the portal. I remember Troy Edwards torching Nebraska on national tv. Damn, his kid is in college now?.....I’m old.

Having said what I said I don’t think you should get dogpiled for this opinion. But at the end of the day (😜) I care more about the job the people are doing rather their salaries (up to a point). The most egregious overpaying is on the sideline, not the offices.

You want to know how to lose good employees? Dump more work/responsibilities on them and don’t compensate them.

My thoughts exactly

Sometimes I’ll preface an opinion with “I could be wrong...” but in this case that’s unnecessary. Sarkisian at worst will be a disaster at BEST will be Tom Herman. I wish I had this kind of money to burn.

I had my fair share of complaints about GH. Then again it’s hard to tell whether it was Mason, GH, or SL to “blame”. Living out west it’s interesting to see how SC fans look at GH. Their offense is inconsistent and then they have a great twenty mins. They hate Helton so much GH probably gets shrapnel from that. I’d say he’s done okay. I still think we underperformed with Mason and those skill positions. Our PPG against decent teams was meh.

Again, there’s no proven path but I’d like to see a P5 defensive coach (ex. LB coach) who is ready to make the coordinator jump. Kinda like a defensive Graham Harrell. Not sure if any current Texas P5 coach fits that bill.

Some fun facts from the UH game in 1998 if my memory serves me right We dominated the first half but only led 9-7 at halftime, UH mauled us in the second half. Dickey called a timeout when we were deep in UH territory only to get a delay of game after the timeout. At halftime the PA guy was reading off scores of other games when he read this gem “in the second quarter Houston seven, North Texas six.” Then there was a long pause and groan from those listening. I remember thinking we can’t even read off scores right. UH had a kid get hurt and we wouldn’t drive the ambulance on the field. They pushed him all the way across the field on the gurney. UH was pissed, I didn’t blame them. If my memory is failing me, feel free to correct. I remember after that game thinking we had some talent but we weren’t ready to win consistently. Also I thought Dickey’s red zone play-calling was abysmal. Field goals don’t win games like that.

*Updated* Kevin Sumlin: Deal (Steal) of the Century
meanrob replied to Pseudo Nym's topic in Mean Green Football
Freeze and Petrino weren’t fired for being bad coaches. I don’t see anybody pointing out that Sumlin was winless this year (should’ve beat USC though) and is coming off the worse loss in UA history. And we want that guy? We might want to ask why this keeps happening to us and I’m not saying it’s the main problem but we definitely have issues with our assistant coaches. We keep letting head coaches bring in friends or keep leftovers. There are people who have a better pulse on that situation than me but it doesn’t seem we are replacing quality with quality. We are on our third OC in three years, that can’t be good. I get why people are pissed at SL, I’m not happy either. I just want to know if there’s a problem with our infrastructure and can fix that before we throw away more money.
