Or maybe Saban is smart enough to know if he says something like this it immediately catches the eye of recruits.

We’re probably 1-3 non conference. Finding five wins on paper with the rest of the schedule is tough. And that just gets you to 6-6. Im no coach but we better play some serious bend but don’t break defense and then average better than 200 yards running the ball. I’m not counting on us being stout defensively overnight or having a quarterback that puts up close to fifty. Our best hope is to win a lot of 35-31 games.

I’m of the mind we could be better this year and still not be .500 and I’d keep SL around another year. But I get the fed up people. I’m definitely leaning we will not be substantially better but this is CUSA so who the hell knows.

I don’t know Jalie or how happy she is at UNT but if I’m the AD I sit down with her after every season and ask her what she needs to keep moving in the right direction and then do whatever it takes to get it to her. There’s no way I let a distinguished former athlete fail here especially if she wants to be here.

Unfortunately, probably true.

Was at the LSU game. An LSU fan could see I was steaming and said “We’re supposed to beat you guys like this.” I said back “Your team isn’t very good, I bet you win three games this year, that’s why I’m pissed.” One of the few predictions I got right. His system was definitely designed to beat teams he had better talent than. The criticism that he wasn’t aggressive enough is valid. And frustrating to watch.

Even though we’re beating dead horses, I actually like the DD debate because there’s some valid points against him and it’s interesting to read some of them. But the RV issue, yeah, you’re not changing my mind. Maybe one day Harry will let his guard down and tell a story or two 🤐

The ironic thing about all of this is in 2000 I was fed up with Dickey. Didn’t think there was any chance he could turn it around. Before the MTSU game in 2001 we were talking to Blue Raider fans about how they were going to kill us. But looking back now and how the facilities were shit (the practice field was just an open grass field) and how good/fun that run was, I can at least give Dickey his due. One of his assistants made less than me and I was a paper pusher at JCPenney. Now we have the highest paid coach in our conference, amazing stadium, and all the other things we never had and we get four wins in the worst conference in FBS. I totally get the bad taste he left in everyone’s mouth. I totally get why he was fired. I get if you weren’t there it’s kinda hard to understand. But throwing up the win percentage and pretending he was a worse coach than Mac or Simon?!?! is just pushing a lazy narrative. And saying we had more resources than the teams we were beating is just wrong. I went to a lot of the road games. Our facilities were at the bottom if not the bottom

I’ll just assume they left the part out about sending a ponzi-scheme email out to donors that was meant for his family. You know, the “forward this to twenty people and win a gift card” scheme that a ten year old knows is BS. That was a eye-opening email to get from the AD. But hey, we only kept him around for twelve more years after that. Edit- Voting this post with a “RV” is the second goddamn funniest thing this week.

This is the funniest goddamn thing I’ve ever read on this board.

Took less than an hour to prove your point, Emmitt.

Unanimous Supreme Court Ruling on Student Athletes Pay
meanrob replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m saying if UNT does what you’re suggesting and UTSA offers scholarships and the athletes make off field money, guess where they are going? To me this is close to when it divided between I-A and I-AA and we made the wrong decision. Do what it takes to make the right decision this time. All your other questions are valid and I don’t think anyone knows. I could care less about the NCAA but they’re probably right when they say a patchwork of different laws in different states is not the answer. -

Fine, have UNT take the hard line. Might as well drop athletics because no one will come here. Basically you’d be a company paying eight bucks an hour while everyone around you pays fifteen. Or twenty. And until the NFL lets in high school graduates or comes up with a different option they pretty much do have to go to school. We can curmudgeon all we want. This is happening. Either get ahead of it or get left behind. Darrell Royal didn’t like throwing the ball, try that today and see how it works out. -
Unanimous Supreme Court Ruling on Student Athletes Pay

If he/she is an employee of the university then why the hell do they have to go to school? Why would anyone go to a school who said “Ok, we’ll pay you 15k a year but you’ll have to pay for everything.” The band student scholarship example above is right on. Why is it different because you can catch a ball? It’s going to change and rightfully so and as an institution you either prepare and be ready for it or get left behind. -

Yeah, I’d hate to win the lottery, I mean all those taxes I’d have to pay. -
Nope, Ault retired a while ago.

I’ll be the first to admit it. When he breaks a big one I’m yelling “Whoa, Nellie!”

Still unknown what we’ll get at quarterback. An offense that struggles against good teams. Coming off back to back losing seasons. Even with substantial improvement in the defense it will be at best average. Tough schedule. Will we be better this year? Definitely. But I still see a year where we beat the bad teams and lose to the good teams which means a 6-6 or 7-5 year. And the bad teams in CUSA are getting better so I expect a lot of close games

Huff was one of the first people to sign up for the old MGC and he was always very encouraging and great to talk to. Unlike most of us he somehow kept his calm even when most of us wanted to pull our hair out over a meaningless loss or bad half of football although he was passionately Mean Green. Hope I age as gracefully. RIP

There isn’t going to be another Gonzaga. Just like another G5 isn’t going to have the run Boise State did. The climate isn’t the same. You can have some consistency but nobody is having THAT consistency.
