I can answer that. He would’ve been…not good. When we signed him I went to watch him play at SOC. He was 6’10 and got out rebounded and out hustled by a 6’3 guy. After that I wasn’t too hopeful. But he sure could do a flashy put-back slam once a game.

I don’t know why people keep bringing up this possibility. If this situation happens there’s no scenario where it comes from a good thing. Doesn’t mean Ruder can’t come in and play well but I don’t see replacing your quarterback a quarter into the season as a good thing. Here’s the scenarios- Aune plays so bad he has to be replaced- not good SL can’t make up his mind so he plays it safe and starts Aune only to replace him- not good SL can’t pick a damn quarterback and keeps switching-not good Neither are good- not good Ruder isn’t a true freshman like Fine was. Transferring in and starting the first game happens ALL THE TIME. This whimsical “Oh we’ll just put in the other guy” is…you guessed it, not good. Edit- Tried to fix it but Plumm said Ruder would be the starter by game three.

You missed your calling. Sports talk radio speak was big in the 90s.

It’s a little disappointing his in game decisions don’t get discussed more on here. He’s had a few bone-headed two point/field goal decisions. Hard to tell the last two years, we weren’t in many close games. Off the top of my head he’s lost more games he should’ve won than vice versa. Plus, no one ever explains how we come out so flat so often. Lot of that goes away if he wins 8 with this schedule.

Just to let you know, you’re 7-5 prediction by reading your game predictions is kinda between 9-3 and 3-9. New year, new team but UAB just seems a more solid team than us at this point. La Tech feels like a better chance to get a win.

Why can’t we have a former player on the broadcast team?
meanrob replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
I should’ve said Dave isn’t my cup of tea. He’s not horrible by any stretch but I’d prefer we went in a different direction. Dunham brought more character to the game than just calling it. -

Might as well continue my run of unpopular opinions- Dave needs to go. International Chirp-Chirp isn’t coming back but we need another 90s Dunham-type.- 18 replies

Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend...

I don’t think Mason is overrated but those two nine-win seasons are. Edit- Trying to get one of every vote, keep’em coming. Double edit- Only two more but someone thought I deserved a double Barney. Can’t really argue with that. Triple edit- Honestly I thought NT getting to a NYE6 game would be the moment I would say “ Now I can finally die in peace” (beating Purdue was pretty damn close) but this accomplishment might have to do. I think it’s a tough year record wise but we play a lot of close games which leads to us complaining about SL’s close game coaching. By us I mean me. 😃

From the highlights we had a chance or two we squandered as well. Are we physically bigger this year than past teams? We look it.

DRC: Littrell -- Aune, Ruder, Martin will get shot in QB race
meanrob replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I want to know in what year we started out not knowing who the quarterback would be and we finished above .500? I’d have a helluva lot more confidence in our offensive minded coach if he could evaluate and select a starting quarterback over a month of practices. Besides when Fine made it obvious, he hasn’t been able to do that. -
ODU & Marshall are looking to shake things up...

Pipe dream to think AAC would get involved. I’ll believe the rest when I see it. MWC schools had way more juice than anyone in the current CUSA/Sun Belt. OU and Texas can sneak away in the middle of the night. Something like this would take a while to negotiate. -
Tailgating was allowed before RV. I know, because I/we did it. When we were going to bring in a cooker/smoker for a pregame tailgate, the athletic department said we needed to get a permit from the police department, I said forget that and we did it anyway. People tailgated/drank before RV, the old MGC started before RV got here. He just encouraged it. Baylor told us we couldn’t (actually in true baptist fashion they said we “shouldn’t”) have alcohol at our MGC pregame tailgate there. We brought a keg anyway. Haven’t thought about the old Denia folks opposing the stadium in a while. They were funny.

My original post wasn’t anything groundbreaking. I just found it interesting that JJ took a beating from the national press for not making the tournament with a top NBA pick (and from the outside it didn’t look good) but now the narrative is changing where maybe it wasn’t just JJ after all.
-
Guess you’re not following the current Ben Simmons situation.
-
Maybe JJ wasn’t the issue down at LSU after all.

I’m a little confused by this post. I’m probably in your age bracket and I don’t ever remember a time where games of “big” schools vs “small” didn’t exist. Back in the day when there were ten or eleven games schools had less openings to fill but those games always existed. I’ve been following college football since the 70s. To me with 12 bids there will be less resume building, not more. If I’m in the SEC why would I play tough OOC? I don’t see any way the Big 12 exists and if it did how it would keep any kind of automatic bid to a playoff. Definitely see the conferences taking on more of an enforcement role, just not sure how much there will be to enforce.

Jason Bean the favorite to start at KU
meanrob replied to meangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m usually of this thought but if he did well there it would be a little eyebrow raising. Leopold is a solid coach, his system doesn’t put it all on the QB. -
Nobody knows where this is headed. Everything doesn’t exponentially increase just because you add more teams. There’s a limit on how much money is actually out there. All it takes is a few schools to say no and everything slows down. The Big 12 was always vulnerable, doesn’t mean everything changes. There is an article on ESPN that talks about how NASCAR screwed itself by thinking more is always better and how it relates to the current situation.
