If they didn’t put this in place the courts and states were going to force it on them. Two years ago, “the NCAA has too many rules!” Now, “We need more rules!” Basically the NCAA had lost any power over college football and the P5s were taking over. The conferences have done nothing to put any stop to this. Only when they start stealing players from each other has it become a problem. They can’t even agree amongst themselves. Hell, they steal SCHOOLS from each other.

Transfer Portal - A lot of players losing free rides
meanrob replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m more curious of the percentage of players who weren’t sure they were going to play football anymore but entered the portal anyway. If your current school isn’t working out (either athletically or academically) and you’re not sure what you want to do next, you at least put your name in the portal. It’s basically posting your resume and see what happens. -
Is it possible that we have a run-based offense that is successful with the run so much that Aune only has to throw 12-18 times a game and he makes enough throws that he doesn’t get exposed? Yes, it’s possible. But even in that scenario (our absolute ceiling) we probably go 7-5. I don’t see us winning enough of the tough games doing that and probably dropping a 50/50 game along the way. Any salty defense will stop this. And I don’t see Aune performing late game heroics like Fine. We fall behind, we might be toast. As far as the D, I’m expecting a repeat of last year. Frisky at times, able to play well in spurts but a good QB/coach can still work us over This shouldn’t be where we are at with a senior quarterback and a sixth year coach. I get G5s have to rebuild/reload but this isn’t where we are as a program. It feels like we are treading water, at best. Having said that, there’s so little info on this team and CUSA is such a good year/bad year conference (in regards to the other teams) we could win nine (highly doubt it) or win three. Wish I could have more hope and confidence in this team, but I don’t.

One of my beefs with the athletic department is even when the have good ideas, they move on instead of sticking with it. That was especially true in the RV era. One of the reasons I was shocked BTG lasted so long. We used to have 8-10 min highlights on YT. Now we have ninety seconds. Our graphics have fallen off. They get frustrated by the lack of attendance at fan events so they quit or change it instead of building continuity. I know this stuff cost money but it pays off, moreso than a curmudgeon head coach who does nothing to pump up the fan base but go .500. The AD has improved but no time to rest on your laurels now, with the move to the AAC we can’t keep half-assing things.

You should’ve seen the early to mid 2000s.

Sounds like me every time I have a good front nine. -
Travel for this upcoming season

Yes, a few times. Never won. Last time wasn’t fun (game wise) but they did have booze which at that time wasn’t at college games. Gulley went for 400+ there back in the 90s before deciding he’d rather be a tight end at USM. Should be there. If we can’t win this time…. -
Wow, so before NIL football players weren’t out drinking and sleeping with women? Weren’t ever distracted? This NIL stuff is pure evil. My prayers are with UT as they cope with these terrible issues and lose to Kansas once again.

Is it time for RV to be inducted in the HOF?
meanrob replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Fun reading indeed. The teenage girl giddiness when it hits Twitter is hilarious. -
Also, of the eight teams who made the CWS last year, only one finished in the top 25 in football. Baseball isn’t elevating your other programs. Having said that, I’m not of the belief that another sport will suck so many resources it will affect other sports. Our football problem isn’t exactly a “resource” issue. I’m not against baseball, I’d sport the hell out of a NT baseball hat. I’m against making up reasons to add baseball that don’t exist. Do we have a quarterback yet?
-
Boise State just dropped its baseball program. Wisconsin, Iowa State, and Syracuse don’t have baseball. Only seven of twelve MWC teams have baseball. This list goes on. Took me two mins to google. So “all” doesn’t apply. Like has been stated a million times before. You want baseball, cut the check.

No offense man, but we just don’t like SMU around here. Appreciate your info, though.

Who dareth douth summoneth me??? And no, we’re not sacrificing animals for frickin’ Texas State. Now, if we make it to MSG….

The Sun Belt was a little more concerned with surviving than what the “football world” was thinking. They had one bowl tie in and even that felt like a minor miracle. There was no ESPN 3, ESPN +, games online, Twitter and Facebook didn’t EXIST. So even when SBC teams did beat Arizona State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and others, only a few people saw it. It was a new conference with no history. Yeah I remember sitting at Fouts moaning we should lose more conference games so the “football world” would give the SBC more respect. It was a hot topic on Sportscenter every night.

55-24 bad guys.
-
Everything else you wrote isn’t even a factor. They are 41-53 since joining CUSA. By your post they are Boise State. We beat them 45-3 two years ago. I’d argue we’re almost the same programs struggling to be relevant in a state crowded with college football teams. G5 is all about coaching hires. Period.
-
Bad (I would even say lazy) asst coaching hires. As a G5 you gotta constantly hustle and keep things from regressing. He didn’t do that after year three. I’m still not sold he’s capable of being a complete head coach, not just one interested in the offense. Much less good at all the attention to detail stuff a good head coach needs. He probably should’ve hired an experienced PB type from day one. Having said all that he could still turn this around. Also the best NT teams had strong player leadership. Remains to be seen if we have that and where it comes from.
-
He may get better as the season goes on but nothing about his presence says he’s a P5 QB. I think he’s thrown three passes over ten yards. Can’t win with that. They’re down now so we’ll see what he’s got.

Nobody deserves to win this game.
