  2. Under Smatresk our administration seems to finally be serious about athletics. I don't think Wren would have come here otherwise. The issue with UTSA is they don't seem to be at that point.
  3. Here are some numbers that were posted on the CUSA board: Mike White (WKU) 2986 yards, 65% completion, 17 Tds/ 7 INts Mason Fine (UNT) 2804 yards, 64%, 22 Tds/ 9 Ints, 92 yards rushing/ 1 TD J'Mar Smith (LT) 2454 yds, 57%, 11 Tds/ 4 Ints, 289 yards rushing/ 2 TDs Chase Litton (Mar) 2356 yds, 60%, 18 TDs/ 10 INTs Alex McGough (FIU) 2051, 64%, 11 TDs/ 7 INTs, 122 yds rushing/ 4 TDs Dalton Sturm (UTSA) 1830 yds, 62%, 15 TDs/ 3 INTs, 499 yds rushing/ 2 TDs AJ Erdely (UAB) 1741 yds, 61%, 13 TDs/ 3 INTs, 290 yds rushing/ 12 TDs Winning the West probably puts Mason above Mike White. If you count Erdely's rushing touchdowns then he has a strong case. I think Mason has a very strong case for fist team All CUSA. Next year if Brent Stockstill at MTSU returns healthy then there's will be a strong challenger.
  4. I don't gamble but today I accidentally stumbled upon a YouTube channel that has two different videos interviewing two different betting "experts" about our game with Army. This first video talks with a guy who thinks Army should be favored. However, he doesn't know Seth's first name and pronounces CUSA as "q-sa". Weird. This second video interviews another guy who seems to know much more about the teams, provides more stats, and favors UNT in a close game.
  5. On the final drive against UTSA, they were blitzing to the offensive's right side and had the other side defensive end / linebacker dropping off into coverage. It seems to me they were afraid of Fine rolling to his right (since he's a right handed QB), extending the play, and getting someone open deep. It looked to me that if Fine was to roll to extend the play they wanted to force him to his left and eventually box him in. That part of the play worked well but Fine is good throwing to either side and he had enough time to turn his body and set his feet to get make the throw to Lawrence.
  6. I'm really shocked by this hire. She may be a great administrator but you need more than that to grow a program. Someone on the Rowdy board mentioned that she may have checked of enough of the "PC" boxes to get the job and it may be true. I have no love for UTSA but I do feel back for their fans right now. This seems to much more likely be a horrible hire than a good one
  7. Let me know if I need to credit someone for the video in it's description.
  8. I love this video and seem to watch it a couple of times each day. I've uploaded the video to Youtube so enjoy! UNT Football - North Texas Chant
  9. I agree that without Smatresk and the administration giving their full support Bakers' job is much, much more difficult. They're giving Baker the tools he needs and he's doing good work with it. But talk about burying the lead ... SMATRESK IS GOING TO RETIRE SOON ?!?!?!?!?!?!?! How soon is soon? When he does retire I'd say let him pick his own replacement but hopefully that's not for a long time from now. How did RV "fumble" Lincoln Riley? I never thought Riley was remotely interested in our job. Was it that RV just threw his name out there to the press without actually talking with him?
  10. Hiring coaches is tough and I don't judge RV too hard because he made bad hires. The problem is his bad hires were historically bad and "program killing" bad. His bad hires alone should have been reason enough to fire him much sooner. As bad as his hiring record is, it's his awful administration skills that hurt this school just as much or maybe more. Let's not forget the report that came out last year. It was "highly critical" of RV's administration. http://www.dentonrc.com/news/news/2016/09/28/report-highly-critical-of-unt-athletics1 I'd bet Smatresk was not surprised by much that was in the report and I don't believe RV totally stepped down on his own. He may not have been pushed out but he must have seen the writing on the wall. RV had no idea how to run a competent AD office and he seemed to have no interest in doing so. I'd also bet that a lot of this money that has opened up from the school and donors for the athletic department would not have been so free if RV was still here. There's a night and day difference between this administration and RV's administration and every can see it, especially donors.
  11. Really Vito?!?!! It's stunning when we win but when Army won "it really mattered". Why was it so stunning? We were evenly matched teams and they did turn the ball over six times. Secondly, we don't make the bowl game without that Army win so which game was more important? Hint: the game we won. Considering that you write for mainly North Texas fans, you could have taken the positive spin and mentioned that we lost in OT to Army without our starting quarterback. You could have taken a neutral spin and simply left out "when it really mattered". Instead, you took the negative spin (which you usually do) and threw the those three words to dig into the North Texas fan. No one is asking for a cheerleader in the press but we don't need a constant negative attitude from our very own beat writer.
  12. Yep. That's a solid group of seniors leaving.
  13. Considering who he hired for basketball I think he will definitely look for someone with more experience. Graham will probably go with Seth.
  14. Cheer for the Green and White.
  15. Which apartment did this happen at? Was it one of the old ones in Cement City?
  16. I agree that a new arena would be best. Right now we have to basically share the facility with the school which limits scheduling.
  17. Are they moving the board or setting up third board similar to the one in the corner that's already there? There appears to be something new by the end zone video board in yellow. Or perhaps they want to move the end zone video board to one corner and replace the other board to match the first. Inquiring minds want to know.
  18. I'm just glad they turned the direction so fans wouldn't have to stare into the afternoon sun. Looks like a grassy tailgate area. I wonder if this would be in addition to the hill or replace it.
  19. I'm not really worried about KU. If I was Seth I'd rather stay were I already have things rolling and wait for a better job offer.
  20. The benefit we get from our name is history is AP voters asking "Where's North Texas State? I don't see them as an option."
  21. I agree that having the game at a neutral site is a bad idea. However, there may be only 5,000 at FAU considering they only had about that much for Homecoming.
  22. I wasn't really comparing Ashton's situation with Littrell's. I was using her as an example that it only takes one school to fall in love with a coach to offer him a better job.
  23. No, I just quote you saying "not necessarily bad". Perhaps you need to go back and read my post ... or your original post. His hires were a big part of the issue. I don't give RV much credit for Seth as it's debatable how much influence he had on that. He other football hires in 15 years combined for ZERO conference titles ... ZERO division titles ... ONE bowl game ... ONE bowl win. The thing is, not only did he hire people who didn't win but they were program destroying. I like to think of it this way ... "RV was here 15 years. During that time we won four conference titles ... went to five bowl games winning two ... AND IT WAS STILL THE WORST 15 YEARS IN THE HISTORY OF UNT FOOTBALL. So RV gave us a great volleyball program ... yeah ... a great soccer program ... year ... and totally destroyed the three money making sports: football, mens basketball, and womens basketball. The other thing that the Post- RV report highlight is what an awful administration he lead. He was an inept leader and emotional to the point of being immature.
  24. "not necessarily bad"? Dodge? McCarney? Benford? His hires were one of the biggest issues. Let's not forget the scathing report made after he left which leaves to doubt he was in way over his head. The one thing that really sticks out in my mind is he had someone with NO ACCOUNTING DEGREE handing the millions of dollars in the AD budget. RV was awful.
