The receiver at the top of the screen moved off the line to get the play from the other receiver on that side but never reset himself on the line before the snap. He got back in position a split second before the snap. Seems that should have been a penalty ... not that I care.

Wow! Plenty of receivers ... would like to see some linemen now.

Chance To “improve” Radio Coverage

I live in OKC so I'll be seeing the game on TV. I can also usually catch at least one UNT game a year on local tv up here. What's funny is how few Oklahoma State games are shown on tv in OKC. -

I was raised in Texas but moved to Oklahoma in 2002 when I got married ... I still consider myself a Texan who is just "visiting". I'm a mole behind enemy lines. btw ... they do have "real" internet in Oklahoma ... for the small percentage of Oklahomas who actually know what the internet is.

Bomar definately was a jerk. Just tonight on the Sports Animal they were talking about how Bomar started to earn some respect with his play but blew it away be being a jerk of a person. He constantly thumbed his nose at the police about drinking under age. He definately has some baggage and I'm not interested in him coming to UNT unless he has had a major attitude adjustment. Geez ... the idea he would accept such a blantant kickback and put the entire team in jeopardy of probation is very selfish. That he actually reported the kickback on his taxes shows how stupid he is. -

If Dickey is so concerned over what people say on a website then he needs to find a new profession. He has totally lost focus. -
I heard from inside sources that Cobb was ruled to be academically ineligible for the NFL draft. Weird ...

And last year Kansas City swept the Yankees. The point is that in a short series any team can win. Over paid? All professional athletes as well as many other professions are over paid. Lazy? Few players who make it to the major leagues are lazy. Most never make it. Most who do have to work their butts off to stay there. Not even the third best version? MLB is still the greatest professional basebal league in the world -- and second place is far, far behind. -
You would be correct, sir. 6'3" might be too short for BCS schools but it's not too short for the NFL. Of course, that's assuming he's actually that tall. Coaches don't necessarily use the most accurate measurements.

No, the top of the tower should be the visitor's locker room with no elevators. Call it a built in home field advantage.

UNT's Cobbs off draft radar, for now Door may not be closed for UNT RB and others not invited to combine 08:45 PM CST on Friday, February 24, 2006 By RICK GOSSELIN / The Dallas Morning News INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA rushing champion is attending the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend. Not every rushing champ, though. DeAngelo Williams of Memphis is here – but Patrick Cobbs of North Texas is not. Williams led the NCAA in rushing touchdowns with 24 in 2004, then led the NCAA in rushing yards with 1,964 in 2005. He's considered one of the three elite running backs at the top of the 2006 NFL draft board. Cobbs led the NCAA in rushing in 2003 with 1,680 yards, then suffered a season-ending knee injury in the second game of 2004. He returned in 2005 and won his second Sun Belt Conference rushing title, gaining 1,134 yards. But Cobbs was not one of the 330 draft-eligible players invited to the combine this week. Only about 250 players are drafted every year, so the snub indicates the NFL does not consider Cobbs a draftable prospect. But much changes between February and April. There has been a noncombine invitee taken in the second round in each of the last four drafts. Last April, the Philadelphia Eagles chose San Diego State linebacker Matt McCoy 63rd overall. Cobbs has size working against him. He's only 5-8, 201 pounds. But Williams is no giant, either. He goes 5-8 ½, 213 pounds. Cobbs is coming off that serious 2004 injury. So is Williams, who suffered a broken leg in the 2004 Motor City Bowl. Cobbs said he was surprised by the slight – "because people told me I was going to get invited." "But I guess I can't say I was surprised, because I've been underrated my whole career," he concluded. Cobbs is not alone. This appears to be one of the stronger noncombine classes to enter a draft in recent years. Counting Cobbs, here are 10 players who are not in Indianapolis this week but could turn up in the 2006 NFL draft: Eric Kimble, WR, Eastern Washington: All-Big Sky quarterback Erik Meyer is at the combine – but not the guy who caught all of his passes. Kimble was a three-year starter and Eastern Washington's all-time leading receiver with 253 catches. He was a two-time All-Big Sky selection, and his 46 career touchdowns rank second in Division I-AA history to Jerry Rice (50). Kimble also averaged 13.4 yards per career punt return with three touchdowns. Will Allen, G, Texas: The Longhorns didn't get much respect before the national title game against Southern Cal, and they aren't getting much respect before the NFL draft. There were 14 Southern Cal players invited to the combine but only six from UT. The most glaring omission was Allen, a three-year starter and All-Big 12 selection in 2005. Willie Evans, DE, Mississippi State: Evans led the SEC with 15 sacks and 28 ½ tackles-for-loss in 2005. He was a three-year starter and an All-SEC pick as a senior. If you can rush the passer in the SEC, you can rush the passer in the NFL. Charles Sharon, WR, Bowling Green: Like Kimble, Sharon stays home this week while his college quarterback, Omar Jacobs, is being scrutinized by NFL talent evaluators. Sharon was a four-year starter and Bowling Green's all-time leading receiver with 232 catches. He also returned punts, averaging 10.3 yards in 82 career runbacks with a touchdown. Mark LeVoir, OT, Notre Dame: Golden Dome blockers tend to make it at the next level, especially those who were prep All-Americas and three-year starters for the Fighting Irish. LeVoir started at guard as a sophomore and tackle as a junior and senior. He blocked for three 200-yard rushing games by Julius Jones in 2003. Jovon Johnson, CB, Iowa: A three-year starter and All-Big Ten selection in 2005, Johnson left Iowa as the school's third all-time leading interceptor with 17. He also led the conference in punt returns last season with an 18.7-yard average and one touchdown. He's only 5-8 – but the NFL is littered with undersized cornerbacks. Nick Reid, LB, Kansas: The NFL didn't restrict its Big 12 snubs to Texas. Reid was the Big 12 defensive player of the year but didn't get an invitation to Indianapolis, either. He was a four-year starter at Kansas and a two-time All-Big 12 pick with 410 career tackles. Mike Lorello, S, West Virginia: In a vote of his teammates, Lorello was selected the MVP of the 11-1, Sugar Bowl champion Mountaineers. A three-year starter, Lorello was an All-Big East selection in 2005. He made 253 career tackles, and his 31 ½ tackles-for-loss rank fifth in school history. Stephen Gostkowski, K, Memphis: Gostkowski is the all-time leading scorer for Memphis and Conference USA with 370 points. He made 19 of 27 career field goals from outside the 40 and three of five from beyond the 50. He also kicks off. E-mail rgosselin@dallasnews.com UNT's Cobbs off draft radar, for now

Rick Gosselin is a writer for the Dallas Morning News who covers the NFL. In his online chat today the moderator added this note to the end: "Moderator - Ted Gangi: Rick is out of time today. Look for his column on the 10 best players NOT at the combine this weekend. UNT's Patrick Cobbs is among them. " I'm not sure when it's coming out, though. Keep an eye out for it! [edit - when I said "I'm not sure when it's coming out" I meant I don't know if it'll be Saturday or Sunday as it obviously states that it's coming out this weekend. Nice cover, uh? ]

Growing up in Plano and going to Plano East, I started on the 9th and 10th grade teams, missed my junior year with a knee injury, and then started as a senior defensive end and won all-district 1st team and was voted defensive player of the year for Plano East by my teammates. I was 190 lbs defensive with a knee injury history. I was recruited to play at Austin College (Sherman, TX) but they don't have athletic scholarships (not that they would have offered me one) but I didn't go there as that is one expensive school. Therefore, I hung up my cleats for good after high school. All in all, I was a good high school player but my body wouldn't have made it through four years of college. In retrospect I can't complain about my decision. I had a great experience at North Texas and made many good friends. Now 17 years after highschool my knee is shot but I'm sure it wouldn've gone much quicker if I had tried to play college ball. -
Why is FAU #12? Because they have one recruit who has a Scout's Grade of 6.4. ESPN merely ranks teams by the average score of their recruits who have committed. One recruit rated 6.4 gets you 12th place right now. Princeton is currently 18th with one recuit (6.1) ... William&Mary is 20th with one recuit (6.0) ... New Hampshire is 32nd with one recuit (5.8). UNT has four 6.0 recruits (the four JC players) and the other eight are 3.0. Current average is 4.0. If UNT was 20th at some point today it was probably not updated. It may have only had our JC recruits which would put us at 6.0 and pretty high. Final ratings won't mean much until all the recruits sign. Of course, grading a class on signing day doesn't mean much, either. For what it's worth, UNT (12) does currently have more total recruits than any other Sun Belt team other than Troy (who has 18)

How much does it cost? NT Facilities Naming
NorthTexan95 replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
Three possible answers: 1. A guy trying to impress a girl so he names the Women's Complex for her. 2. A man who needs to make a serious apology to the wife so he names it for her. 3. A man who feels the need to make a point so he has it named for Ramon Flanigan. Years later everyone forgets who Ramon Flanigan was and just figures it was some lady. -
I did some number crunching from Naming Rights info on the UNT site: 1. If you had $8,595,000 you could have everthing in the Athletic Center named after you, including the Athletic Center itself for $3,500,000. 2. If you had $6,495,000.00* you could have everthing in the Women's Athletic Center named after you including the complex itself for $3,000,000. 3. If you had $40,090,000.00** you could have all the additional athletic facilities named after you including $25,000,000 for the football stadium and $5,000,000 for the Super Pit. 4. If you have an unquenching thirst for self-glorification ... and you have the checkbook to match it ... you can have your name EVERYWHERE for a cool $55,180,000.00. This will get EVERY piece of athletic facilities named after you. I'm sure you could get your name on all the toilets as well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * assumes 30 VB lockers ** assumes 30 track lockers

Those shoulder pads are from a company Bill Bates is involved with. Some of the Cowboys experimented with them this preseason. Some guys liked them, some didn't. There were some concerns about wether suddenly cooling down a body several times a game would have a negative impact on the player. Who knows if these shoulder pads will actually catch on with a large number of teams.

Ah ... ESPN's site has NT with two conference losses. My bad.
