Hmmm... So that's why the UH section sold out WAY before the OU section. Projections have been 60-40 UH fans. Guaranteed at least 30k UH fans there (24k season tickets plus 5k student tickets)
-
Technically it's a neutral site game, not a roadie.

Something interesting I just learned... Haynes and King may have been the first African Americans to play at a university in Texas, but they weren't recruited. They were at the university and decided to try out for the football team. So maybe Yeoman was the first to recruit and sign a black player.
-
So many people get that so wrong. UH was the first school to have an African American play at an SEC field.

La Tech mentioned as Top Candidate for AAC

So you think an 11 year time frame is most logical? Do you also rank top 11 instead of top 10? -

No. Just using an odd time frame is an attempt to bias data. They may have been trying to show another bias by including the most positive point for another school and it may be a coincidence that UHs worst year was the same year. But there is no chance someone chose an 11 year timeframe without a reason. Its like when someone says they were the best at X in the last 13 years. You can guarantee 14 years ago was bad. No poor UH. We had weak attendance in the past. Everyone knows it. We've made major strides since then. But if you want to judge UH based on 11 years ago, youre missing a lot of positive development since then -

Odd to go back 11 years instead of a more rounded 10 or 5. Agenda? Trying to get UH's worst year? How relevant is even 10 years ago? Last 5 years UH is up to an average of 29,105 and that includes a season where we didn't have a permanent stadium including playing a couple of games in a soccer stadium that only held 22k and a season where we didn't show up trying to get a coach fired (worked). At this point we almost have 25k season tickets sold. What do you think is more important: average attendance 10 years ago or season tickets sold now? -
SMU Athletics Reveals Future Facilities Projects
NTXCoog replied to NTAlum09's topic in Mean Green Football
Multi purpose practice facilities used to be the way to go, but in the arms race going on, it is less common. UH just built a basketball practice facility, construction on the football practice facility starts after the season ends, and the old multi purpose facility remains for the other sports. Herman's contract even has lower buyouts if progress towards a football only facility isnt met -
Don't know where you get your info. UH returns 13 starters. 13 > 11 (half). That's not counting all the returning OL that started at least 1 game as subs. No returning special teams?. All conference KR Brandon Wilson is back. He was the only player in the country to score multiple TDs on offense (2 rushing TDs), defense (1 INT TD, 1 fumble return TD), and special teams (2 KR TDs) Kicker Ty Cummings is back as a senior after going 8 for 8 on FGs and 51 for 51 on XPs last year. Was 11th in the conference in scoring despite not playing the first 4 games. We are intrigued by who our new punter will be. WR/Backup QB who won the Memphis game Kyle Postma is in the mix. Another possibility is 27 year old Australian rules football player who won a league longest kick competition. Don't know how good they'll be at punters, but lots of intrigue for possible fakes. Either the backup QB will be in or a 6'6" 240 lb Aussie ruckman will be in. And it helps that we were in the top 1/3rd in least punt attempts per game at <5. And if you're really concerned about our long snapper, we picked up one of the top long snappers in JC who had committed to Baylor but flipped to UH. Young, inexperienced front 7? 5 of the front 7 made one of the Athlon preseason all conference teams. 2015 2nd team all conference and preseason 1st team AAC DT Singleton returns as a SR. SR Malveaux returns at DE and is 2016 Preseason all conference 3rd team. Senior linebacker Steven Taylor (who led the conference in sacks) is preseason all AAC and is on the watch list for the Butkus and Nagurski trophy. Senior LB Tyus Bowser is also on the Butkus watch list. Really the only young, inexperienced player in the front 7 is 5 star commit Ed Oliver. You really don't know anything about UH football. Why do you try to comment like you're an authority on it? Stick to UNT football.

Has UNT athletics ever teamed up with the Ticket? Ticket Time Waster performance. Guys Night Out at Apogee. There's a natural connection between UNT and the Ticket.

I don't know what your definition of a dead beat is. I usually associate it with someone who does nothing, but wants to be taken care of. Wall has put out multiple albums, has acted, and has a custom jewelry business. That's hustlin', quite the opposite of dead beat Some of you UNT fans crack me up. " I wouldn't want Paul Wall associated with my football program. I wouldn't want Tilman Fertitta associated with us." You get your wish. No one wants to be associated with your football program. Isn't that part of the problem that UNT needs to fix, getting people involved in the program?

That's a big if considering how we beat FSU in our last game and OU and FSU about that level Struggle to sell out? Maybe. Struggle for 30k as you suggest? No way. If you include student tickets, we're already at 30k sold right now which is what is reported. That's before single game tickets or visitor tickets go on sell. And if you like the Paul Wall connection, the UH library has DJ Screw's archive including his recording equipment and about 1500 of his vinyl records.

I won't even put in the UNT comparison due to respect to other posters. Graduated the majority of last year's starters? 12-14 starters return depending on how you calculate it. That's not a majority. More importantly, the most important player QB Greg Ward is back. So the leading passer, rusher, and TD scorer is back. Leading WR and RB are gone, but 2nd leading receiver Oregon transfer Chance Allen is back and 4 star WR Courtney Lark is joining the team. So many injuries at RB last year, but 4 star UT transfer Duke Catalon will likely do well, he's preseason 2nd team all conference. Many of the lost starters were on the OL, but most of them were injured last year anyway. We had 4 OL injured at one time, and the true freshman back ups as well as a converted DL did a pretty nice job last year, good enough to beat 4 ranked teams. Now they'll be the leaders and have great game experience even if they weren't considered starters. Biggest concern is with the lost DBs including a 1st round draft pick, although we have a 2nd team all conference player returning there. The good news is almost all of the great DL is back plus add 5 star Ed Oliver and returning all conference LB and conference sack leader Steven Taylor, hopefully they'll make it an easier transition for the DBs. UH may lose to OU. Most teams do. We may not. But if losing to OU makes you a duckfart program, then pretty much all of the Big 12 is too. Yes, Houston's stadium only holds 40k. But UH leaders have already said if they join a P5 conference, the stadium will be expanded to 50k or 60k as it was designed to do. The B12 grabbed TCU because they were about to not meet the standards at the time for an AQ BCS conference. Losing the teams they did, they needed a team with a resume that included being ranked in BCS polls. Those standards were dissolved soon after TCU was invited, but at the time, they thought they needed that resume.

34k isn't exactly struggling to hit 30k. And that's with a stupid Thursday night game against SMU at the same time the Houston Texans play 5 miles away. There will be no struggle this year at all. Already 22.5k season tickets sold, throw in 7.5k student attendance and the Little Coogs program and we're averaging 30+k without selling another ticket for the rest of the season.

Radio silence on men's basketball? What do you want to hear? We're building. We came in 3rd in the conference last year (tied with Cincy), had 22 wins, beat conference champ Temple, #2 SMU, and #3 Cincy, and went to the NIT. Last made the tournament in 2010. Many predicting UH to go to the tournament this year. Just opened the $25 million Guy V Lewis Basketball Development Facility and the $60 million renovation to Hofheinz will be ready to go in 2018. Kelvin Sampson is a great basketball coach. With his coaching and the new facilities, I expect big things in the near future. I expect the attendance to bump too with both the wins and new facilities. Is that what you want to know? Dangerous at UH? I assume you want to say that UT is dangerous too with their rape and murder actually on campus instead of a few blocks away. Hell, didn't UNT police have to kill a hatchet wielding student on campus this year?

One season? I guess 13-1 in 2011 isn't a season. BTW: Guess what Texas university has the 2nd most wins in the last 10 years? Hint: TCU is #1 with 100. 2nd has 88 wins. Averaging 8.8 wins a season isn't too shabby. Cincy has only been ranked 5 times in their entire history. Only once in the top 10. That's so much more big time. And not ranked the last 3 years. And their bowl streak? How many major bowls have they won in their entire history? That would be zero. You tout Cincy attendance in a down year at 37k. Why don't you talk about 2014 when they were conference co-champs and averaged 28k? Or 2009 which was their best year in history (ranked #8), and they averaged 34k. Want to bet UH's attendance is much improved this year? Already sold over 22k season tickets, and increase over over 6k from last year. Looks like a push to me. 2015 wasn't our best year ever. Maybe best win %. But #8 would be our 3rd best final ranking ever. #8 would be Cincy's highest ranking ever Cincy is higher up the university food chain? There is 1 school in Ohio that anyone cares about, and it ain't Cincy. Decrepit basketball stadium? Maybe right now. But can't wait to see the $60 million renovation when it opens in 2018. I love your math skills. 0% UH gets in the Big 12, but #3 on your expansion list and there's a possibility they expand by 4 teams. That sounds like >0% to me.

We'll see. The Big 12 is becoming irrelevant in the Houston market. It's all SEC. The only Big 12 games to make the top 10 TV ratings in the Houston market last year were OU/UT and TCU/Baylor. OU/UT is on FS1 this year so that by itself may kick it out of the top 10. TCU/Baylor? Who knows? Will Baylor be ranked when they play? There's a good chance not a single Big 12 conference game makes top 10 in the Houston market this year. Some OOC games will probably make it (Notre Dame/UT, OU/OSU, OU/UH), but what does it say about the Big 12's place in the Houston market if they can't get ratings for any in conference games? BTW: UH had 2 top 10 games in the Houston market too, tying the entire Big 12 conference.

Not calling the people in the athletic department trouble, calling the situation there VERY difficult. Money is down dramatically. Applications to the school are down dramatically. Unrest on campus with racial issues. Not an ideal situation for athletic success.
-
Baylor just hired Mack Rhoades as their AD. I knew him without looking. Part of that was because he was UH AD for a while. Also he had the misfortune of coming from Mizzou and dealing with all of the player strike and on campus protest issues. Going from one trouble department to another.

You asked for 1 and I gave you 1. In 2014, there were only 8 teams in college football that had 2 wins or less. Not all fired their coach, but 3 of those 8 went to a bowl the next year (UConn and GA St with same coach) . But thats a rather small data set. I'll let you look up how many of those other 5 teams had new coaches, but about 20%-25% of teams with 2 wins or less with new coaches the next year went to a bowl the next year
-
Blankenship wasn't fired mid-season, but Tulsa did go from a 2 win season to going to a bowl the next season under a new coach

Depending on the type of offense and how many big plays a team has, TOP can be the most misleading stat in college football. A UH example: the 2011 season, UH went 13-1. UH was either 1st or 2nd in fastest offense (with Oregon). Led the nation in scoring at 49.3 PPG. In 13 of those games, UH lost the TOP battle. Yes, every game they lost the TOP battle, they won. The 1 game they had more TOP, they not only lost, but got blown out.
