DRC: UNT notes, a look at Texas lockers with HDTV name plates
NTXCoog replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
If the NCAA said they weren't allowed to practice outside due to thunder, in general they'd do it. They would grumble and cuss about it, but they'd do it. And whether it is a dumb rule or not, it is a rule. But you take a weak example to generalize about being wimps and using an IPF. Do you think that Bryant would practice outdoors in a baseball sized hail storm? No. He'd move inside to the gym. So spit out your orange juice all you want, I guarantee everyone you mentioned moved some workouts indoors due to weather. Definitely not for thunder (although they would if they coached now), but they did not practice outside in the most extreme weather conditions. -
CUSA and Sunbelt Merger About to Happen Folks
NTXCoog replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
The grapevine (and we know how reliable that is) says that the MWC has asked if there was interest from UH or UTEP to move. More official, as late as last year, the MWC commissioner has asked about expansion to TX "“I’ve challenged our membership to think about expansion — with or without losing [current] members. Do we look east? Do we look at the state of Texas, for example?" Mountain West considering expanding regardless what Big 12 does -

In those days, there was no NCAA rule against playing/practicing while there is lightning. While most, if not all, of those guys you listed violated NCAA rules, most would have at least attempted to hide it or found a legit workaround I would bet more than once those guys had conditioning only days indoors in the weight room or other indoor facilities like a basketball court when practicing outside would have been a waste of time due to weather. An IPF is just the modern version of that which allows for more football oriented workout than just conditioning. -

To be fair on the drop of rain comment, I'm guessing that lightning forces more cancellations of practice than rain. If you hear thunder or there is lightning within 6 miles, you have to wait 30 minutes since the last thunder/lightning. In the last couple of seasons, UH had a 7 hour football game because of lightning delays where 20 minutes might go between thunder/lightning, but then the clock would restart. Lightning like that would basically cancel a practice. -
Seth Littrell may be candidate for open Houston job

I should say I'd like Holgorsen best. I just think the chances of that are very slim though. Most likely he's using UH to get more money out of WVU.- 81 replies

Personally I like Montgomery from Tulsa IF, and that's a big IF, he can get a good defensive co-ordinator AND not always go high speed on offense if it hurts the defense. That's my biggest concern about any Air Raid type coach. Miles is also near the top of my list although I have concerns about him being fired up and not having the blue blood resources. I'm pretty open. I prefer not Briles or Applewhite. Agree Kiffin isn't high on my list, but I could be convinced. He seems to have a lot of douche in him though.- 81 replies

I really don't know. There have been so many stories of so many rumors, it's hard to tell what to believe. There are some big name P5 current coaches rumored like Leach and Holgorsen. Doubtful they would come. More likely just ploys to get more money. Sonny Dykes is also on that list and is more likely to leave his P5 situation, but fanbase wouldn't be fired up about him. He's been a candidate and turned down the last 3 UH coaching hires. There are some unemployed P5 coaches rumored like Miles and Briles. I hope Briles isn't a realistic option. Good coach but bad PR. Miles is interesting, but would he be fired up to start over at a G5 school? There are some current G5 coaches like Montgomery rumored. Some of those I would be interested in. Some not so much. Then there are the current coordinators Orlando and Applewhite. Orlando I think is a real possibility, but after the Levine failure (although he was special teams coordinator), I think there are concerns about another flop from an inside, continuity hire. I don't think the fanbase would be thrilled with Applewhite. Media and message board rumors are all over the place. I won't believe any of them until an announcement is made.- 81 replies

DC Todd Orlando would get the job before Applewhite. Even as co-ordinators Orlando was making almost twice as much money.- 81 replies

I'm an old school kind of guy. OK, I'm just an old guy. I prefer the classic, traditional uniforms with the old skinny interlocking UH on red helmets, which we haven't used in about 20 years. I've gotten used to the candy apple red helmets, and some of the alternates are pretty nice. These aren't my favorites especially the gray UH on the helmets. BUT the kids seem to like all these alternative uniforms. So if it helps in recruiting some better players and athletes, I'll trade my traditional style choices for some wins on the field.

I don't know about Littrell, but there are coaches including Art Briles and Dino Babers that do not have physical playbooks. Of course they have plays, so if you want to call the mental collection of plays a "playbook" that's your choice. But in that case, figuratively they may have one, but literally they don't.

I will disagree. A lack of playbook can actually require more time. With no playbook, the only way to learn the plays is through repetition. With a playbook, plays can be learned both through repetition and book study.

Houston Only Getting $400k From OU In Return Game
NTXCoog replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in Mean Green Football
And your point is? A team loses a QB drafted in the first round that becomes Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year and they drop off some. Imagine that. And now they're pre-season ranked again. I'm more than happy to agree they aren't college blue blood if that's your point, but UNT fans would be over the top thrilled to have them schedule a 1-and-1, as they should be. -
Houston Only Getting $400k From OU In Return Game
NTXCoog replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in Mean Green Football
Louisville was announced to the ACC in 2012. The announcement of the scheduling of the series was in 2013. So technically they were still G5 when announced, but it was known that they would be P5 when the games happen. And you're really going to complain about their cache? They've finished ranked 7 times in the last 15 years with only 1 losing season in almost 20 years. I'd argue they have more cache than Texas Tech nationwide except in TX. No, they aren't LSU, Michigan, etc, but there are much worse P5 teams to schedule, many of them that UNT fans on this board have said they'd be thrilled to have come to Apogee. -

Keep in mind UH also has 6 real home games at TDECU including P5 Louisville. This is a 7th game in the city of Houston that has been a neutral site kickoff game for the prior 3 years. If you had 6 home games at Apogee including a ranked P5 team, would you be happy to play an additional game versus OU at JerryWorld? -

Scheduling - Opportunities and Challenges
NTXCoog replied to MeanGreenMailbox aka TFLF's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll correct myself. I thought Temple was, and they may be, but according to this article, UConn and Cincy definitely were. The funniest quote: " Rudner added the league would evaluate any other non-Power 5 schools -- programs in the AAC, Conference USA, Mid-American, Mountain West and Sun Belt leagues -- brought up by a Big Ten school and decide whether they would count as Power 5 opponents based on their RPI rankings in recent years and other factors. " Considering UConn hadn't won more than 5 games in a season in 5 years, I highly doubt their RPI in recent years were P5 worthy. The "other factors" were probably that they were already on a Big 10 schedule, and the B1G didn't want that team to have to buy out those games or other OOC games. -

Temple and other AAC schools were also considered P5s for scheduling purposes last year. Doesn't make them P5 -

BYU isn't G5. Non-P5 or Independent is more accurate. -
Vandy was Halloween night. Should have been higher attendance, but that's part of the reason. I don't think Kansas beats UNT by 100+. I think UNT could win. They lost every game including an FCS loss.

So you think that zero UH fans outside of season ticket holders have bought tickets? Every single time you post about UH you are wrong with your facts.
