  1. I live in Providence Village, so can I list it as "Bored in Providence Village"? Of course using both "bored" and "Providence Village" in the same sentence may be repetitive.
  2. I'm so tired of endless conference realignment discussions. What did we ever discuss during the offseason before that? I'm ready for some football!!! I can't wait for my UH Coogs to play at UNT! I lived in Denton for several years and have lived in Providence Village for even more now. Living so close to UNT and being a hardcore college football fan, I follow UNT a little more than the casual college fan. I went to the UNT-Rice game at Fouts and had a great time. It will be even better at the new stadium with my team playing in it. Hopefully I'll make some other UNT games this season too. I've been to games at smaller, older stadiums like Fouts. I've been to giant stadiums like UT's and aTm's. I've been to games involving my team and games where I had no affiliation at all. I've been to games in beautiful weather in crowded stadiums and games during hurricanes with a few hundred people in an emergency stadium relocation. And I've loved them all, even if I didn't always enjoy the results because my team lost. In my opinion, if you can't enjoy any college game in any stadium, you're just not a college football fan. I'm sure we'll talk more about the actual game itself as it gets closer, but I was just bored during the offseason and thought I'd check in here. Looking forward to talking more on this forum and seeing you in at least one game. This post has been promoted to an article

  4. Keenum has already finished in the top 10 in Heisman voting once. I don't think he'll win it, but finishing in the top 10 previously with a chance to break most career QB records makes him a legitimate pre-season candidate which was the original statement.
  5. Correct. He did not play a down his freshman year. There is no difference between a regular redshirt and a medical redshirt except when the player misses most/all of another season due to injury. If a player misses most or all of 2 seasons due to injury, he can petition for a 6th year which is what happened here. If the NCAA had determined that Keenum wasn't injured and could have played his freshman year, he would not have been eligible for a 6th year.
  6. UH has zero pull in the NCAA. Keenum had an injury his freshman year as was indicated in the article. The only way you get 6 years generally is to have 2 injury years. If he hadn't been injured, he wouldn't have played his freshman year anyways because Kolb was the QB and there was an adequate backup. But because Keenum had the injury, he got the 6th year on a technicality.
  7. Playing in the Astrodome was a MAJOR money loser for the Cougars. Just like playing in Reliant is. If the Cougars played at Reliant, they'd have to average tens of thousands more fans just to break even. But support for the team has picked up drastically this season. The 1st two games were sellouts and there are 3000-4000 tickets left for every game on the schedule. So every game should be a sellout for the 1st time ever. The season ticket base raised dramatically too this season. I believe we had the largest percentage increase (or one of the largest) in season tickets of any team, almost doubling the number of tickets sold. Once you reach that critical point where people know that finding a ticket will be tough, that boosts season ticket sales even more. That critical mass also makes the new stadium project a higher priority because the demand has been demonstrated.
  8. I'm so excited about the UNT-UH basketball game on Friday. I'm a UH alum who lived in Denton for 5 years (wife went to TWU) & now I live about 10 miles east of Denton. As a sports fan & Denton resident, it's surprising that I've never been to a sporting event on the UNT campus. I generally follow the UNT schedule & results, but I wouldn't consider myself a hardcore UNT fan. Unfortunately I follow UNT more than many UNT alums. One of my co-workers is a huge UT fan. Always talks about how his team is doing. When I asked him when he graduated from UT, he then told me he was a UNT alum. That just pissed me off. I asked why he didn't cheer for UNT & he said something about not doing anything that impressed him. Considering at the time UNT had just been to another NO bowl & my alma mater was just 1 year removed from an 0fer team, I just couldn't believe it. Unfortunately UH has too many of those kinds of alum too. Hopefully UH will win Friday, but I also hope I enjoy the atmosphere. As a local, I should support the school even if some UNT alum don't, at least make a b-ball game or two a year.
  9. Anyone here play darts in the Denton area? I play in a Dallas league, but I live in Aubrey. Wondering if anyone can help me w/local bars & especially local weekly tournaments. Steel tip preferred, but I'll give soft tip a shot if that's all that's available. Not trying to take over the tournaments or make money, because I'm not that good. Only been playing 10 months. But I need to practice against some competition outside my league to try to improve my game. Description & rating of the bar/tournament is preferrable to just a list. Thanks in advance.
