  1. I've been reading this almost weekly on opponents' boards for almost three years now, including last week against UCLA. Either most fans don't really know the rules about holding, or there's a conspiracy where referees in Conference USA, Big XII, SEC, and Pac 12 refuse to call holding on UH.
  2. The sad thing is UH did hold back that game. UH defense (and it was a great defense back then) did not blitz a single time against a run and shoot team. Starting QB only played 1 half. Starting defense only played one half. Every single person on the roster played. UH took a knee 3 times inside SMU's 20 yard line to end the game. Run the ball more? The running back had 15 carries for 209 yards and 3 TDs. So 14 yards per carry and a TD every 5 times he carried the ball. His yards per carry was higher than UH's yards per pass attempt. UH could have scored 150 easily that night.
  3. I was at the 1989 UH vs SMU game. We didn't have the triple digit points, but the quadruple digit yardage was sweet.
  4. I am a fatty, and I'm doing a 3 mile "fun" walk for charity that morning. Hope I can make that long 10 minute walk to the game that night.
  5. TY may be a better pro prospect because he's a couple inches taller and about 15 pounds heavier. But as a fit into the UH offense, he is amazing. Keenum has the ability to hit him going full speed and there are few in college football that can match that speed. He is a UH track guy after all. He also has 6 KRs for TDs, 1 short of the record. What may be a bigger problem for UNT is that UH has 2 starting WRs in that category. Patrick Edwards is also a burner who has more career receiving yards than Carrier. He was almost shut down last week by one of UCLA's DBs who is a legit pro prospect, so Keenum threw it to the open guy, Carrier. Edwards has multiple games of 150+ yards receiving and is an awesome punt returner. He is probably most known though for the horrible injury he suffered his freshman year. Edwards Injury Video WARNING! This is VERY graphic. I hadn't watched that in a couple of years. I still get sick watching it even though I know he's better now. Both Carrier and Edwards have over 2600 yards receiving in their career, so even if it is the system, they're very good in the system. They're really yards after catch receivers. Get them the ball 5-10 yards down field in stride, and they're threats to take it all the way with their speed.
  6. There is no doubt that UNT can beat and probably beat badly a lower level FCS team. The question becomes is it profitable to play them. Besides an easy guaranteed win, one reason teams play FCS schools is they are generally cheaper to play than an FBS school and don't usually require a return visit to their stadium. It becomes profitable for both schools, the FBS school makes more money because they don't have to pay as much and can schedule more home games every season, and the FCS school gets more money than if they'd played another FCS school even at home. The sticking point is getting enough fans in the seats to make money after the payout. If not, you might as well go on the road and play for pay unless you're in the position where you can accept losing money, or you sign series deals with FBS schools and hope to make money at least every other or third year with those games.
  7. Sell it out!
  8. He's also a track guy running the 60m, 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay for UH. Last year at the CUSA championships he placed 5th in both the 100m and 200m. His relay team finished 2nd at the CUSA championships which qualified them for nationals where they finished 18th in the nation. So yes, he has some speed.
  9. That's Tyron Carrier. He has 6 career kickoff returns for TDs, 1 short of the record set by CJ Spiller. I have bad news for you, he's still on the team and had 10 catches for 138 yards and 1 TD against UCLA last week. Last week he also broke the UH career record for all-purpose yards with 5941 (315 yards rushing, 2673 receiving, 2803 kick return, and 150 punt return). He'll probably break the current UH record for career receiving yards this year, but he may not have the school record though because Patrick Edwards has 2771 yards although he only had 1 reception for 16 yards last week being covered by UCLA's best back.
  10. It definitely looked like there were 3 different teams on the field at the same time. Very confusing.
  11. That is a sweet video. I especially like the way they pulled in the pictures of the ex-Mean Green players which are around the concourse. I don't think it's the psyche your team up video you play right before the game, but they should definitely show it some time on Saturday. I assume there will be some kind of opening game ceremonies where it would fit in perfectly.
  12. After the game, UH releases the motivational video they showed the players before each week's game. Here's the video they showed before the UCLA game. Many of you won't be interested in this so please just ignore it. But for those who haven't seen UH much and want to see some of the players you'll be watching this weekend, it is a good introduction. 2011 UCLA Motivational

Don't overlook UCF. They are at least as good if not better than Louisville. They went 11-3, won CUSA, and finished ranked last year and are receiving votes again this year.
  14. Waiting for the punch line to this joke.
  15. 309 yards and 1 TD is way below his career average. j/k. He looked great out there today. It was good to see him out there looking healthy. Even had a couple of nice scrambles.
  16. I find funny that you said Troy St. when they changed their name to Troy University in 2005. Isn't that like calling UNT North Texas State?
  17. The poll voters disagree with who is better, but I guess we'll see next week. I'm curious about kickoffs next week. If UNT was willing to kick to Hilton who has 4 career KO returns for TDs, will they also kick to Carrier who has 6 career KO return TDs, 1 short of the NCAA record?
  18. Wasn't there for the announcement either, but the sound from the broadcast sounded great to me. If there was a negative, I think there was a bit of echo bouncing off the emptier sections of the stadium. I think the sound quality will be even better with more people in the stands.
  19. I guess I'm a douche. I wonder if I'll be the only person in the stadium wearing red. If I'm not, I guess everyone else wearing it will be a douche too. If I am the only one, come see me. I'm a pretty friendly guy. Maybe you can teach me the UNT fight song or one of your cheers. I won't do it at the UH game, but I would later in the year, or even tonight. I don't think my school is vastly superior in sports or academics and I'm not trying to be confrontational. I am proud of my school and would wear my school colors at a game involving DIII schools or at a BCS championship game. Later in the year if a UNT fan came to the SMU-UH game at Ford Stadium decked out in Mean Green gear, I wouldn't be offended a bit. If that UNT fan said both schools sucked and UNT was better, THEN that person would be a douche. Otherwise I think you're just repping your school and you want to watch some college football. BTW: In a game between UNT and FIU, red is neutral.
  20. If I had a UNT shirt, I might wear it to UNT games (except for the UH game). I'm just not spending money on one. Call me cheap (I am). I'd rather spend my money on a shirt for my team, better tickets, concessions at the stadium, or something completely unrelated to football. BTW: I never even said I was wearing a UH shirt. I said Cougar red. I'll be wearing a red polo, no UH logo at all. Sorry, I don't have a green polo either.
  21. Who pissed in your Wheaties? I went to a game at Fouts last year. I went to the UNT spring game. I watched UNT games on TV last year. I follow the UNT team. Even though the support I give to UNT is tiny, it's more than too many UNT alums (and I know UH has its share of the same kind of alums). I'll always be a die hard Coog fan, but I can also be a casual UNT fan. I'll probably never buy a Mean Green shirt because I'd rather have UH gear, but I will continue to go to UNT games because it's fun and convenient. Maybe you don't need the casual fan who went to another school. Maybe you hardcore fans are enough although it hasn't been in the past. I know UH can use the support of every local Houston resident it can get even if they went to another school. Well I'm a Denton area resident supporting the local school, even if it is not my own. I'll be at the UH game cheering for my Coogs, but I'll probably make a couple more games this year, cheering for the Mean Green. If that makes me a tool, so be it. But I'm sure your program could use some more tools like me supporting it.
  22. I won't be there the whole game, but I'll probably drop by to check out the stadium. And yes, I'll cheer for UNT while I'm there, but I'll be wearing Cougar red instead of mean green.
  23. That is odd. Since UH and Houston were the basketball Final Four hosts, can we count the games at Reliant in our attendance?
  24. On Monday morning, sections 102 and 103 were best available. By Monday afternoon, 203 was best available. If you try 1 ticket you can still get in 203. If more, you get in 202. So since Monday evening, really only 203 has filled up. Reserved endzone hasn't moved much since Monday afternoon either. Still pretty nice that only corners are available 3 weeks before the game. Regarding student tickets, UH puts limits on student seating if the game is going to be a sell out. That wasn't much of a problem until recently. Now they have to get there early to get tickets especially to the big games. They also had to change the rules on guest passes that students can buy.
  25. My dream is to some day make the Frenchy's van of fame.
