  1. Houston plays OU at the Texas Kickoff at NRG Stadium this season. Does that mean it is a UH home game? I don't think so. It's a neutral site game. Don't think so? UH has 6 games at TDECU stadium this season. Do you think UH has 7 home games this year?
  2. This is purely a bid for Houston exposure. UNT couldn't get this done because UT already has at least 1 game in DFW every year. Don't believe it's about Houston exposure? See Charlie Strong's comments from June of last year: "the thing we would like to do, and I know eventually it will happen, is that we come here on a consistent basis. Maybe we can get a game here, because we have so much support here with our fans. This is such a great alumni base. We go to Dallas now, and we'd just like to come here." Other interesting notes from the article: "The recruiting talk underscores an important point about the value of a Texas football game in Houston -- with Herman's team now a legitimate player for high-level local prospects and Texas A&M winning seven head-to-head battles over Texas in the greater Houston area in the 2014 and 2015 classes, the recruiting trends there aren't especially positive at the moment. Throw in the fact that the number of people in Houston identifying as Aggie fans increased by 26% over the last five years while Longhorns fans decreased by 30%"
  3. And a Friday game. Same thing last year. Hopefully no home games at the same time as Houston Texan home games like last year.
  4. Do you think UTD is more of an academic power than UH? Wonder why they're behind UH in pretty much every Tier 1 funding standard then.
  5. And of course there are exceptions to that too. For example Case Keenum, the holder of almost every NCAA passing record and NFL QB, was a 2 star that had no other scholarship offers. But that's an exception...
  6. To be fair, the WR at QB was a high school QB and was a QB at UH before being moved to WR when he got beat out for the starting QB spot. He was just too talented an athlete to sit on the bench so they made him a WR. When the other QB tanked due to bad coaching, Ward went back to his original position. And the CB at RB, that was mostly an injury situation. The first 3 RBs on the depth chart were injured and we didn't want to pull redshirts late in the season. The only game he played solely at RB was against Navy where having a RB was more important than having 3-4 CBs against an option running team who rarely passed. He did play both sides against FSU when the starting RB tweaked his original injury. Besides, he was a RB in HS who rushed for 1800 yards and 21 TDs his senior season. Not exactly new to the position. But if you want to use him for your point, he was a HS RB converted to CB who just happened to play a couple of games at RB this year. So your point of talented athletes can be made to fill positions they might not have started at is shown by these examples, but not exactly as you described. There are even more examples at UH this year such as a DL converted to OL midseason due to loss of 4 OL starters with injuries and a FB being converted to TE since we didn't have any on the roster and the new offensive scheme needed one.
  7. Mostly those are P5 teams making exceptions so their scheduling meets their conference rules (even though they really don't). For example, this year I believe they considered Temple and Cincinnati P5 teams as scheduling exceptions.
  8. The Big 12 was not first in the Houston market. The SEC dominated it due to Alabama, LSU, and aTm. UH actually had as many top 10 rated games (2) in the market as the entire Big XII with only UT/OU ahead of 2 UH games.
  9. Sorry. I thought you'd get a laugh out of it. Back to RV bashing then
  10. I know you guys love silly SMU items. Here's Coach Morris dancing. Maybe he should follow UH coach Herman's lead and just get a grill.
  11. One thing that Briles had that I don't think Wilson has is a good backup from the AD. Briles had a strong AD with experience at Cal and Miami. The UH AD forced out Briles' high school S&C coach and implemented a real high level college S&C program (credit to Briles who learned that lesson and has a great S&C program today). He also forced out some of Briles' defensive coaches. Maybe Wilson will have less of those coaching growing pains, but I'm not sure he'll have the help that Briles had to get through them.
  12. Levine already gave UTSA their biggest win in school history.
  13. Done speaking to the troll. What a sad human being. If any other UNT fans want to keep the discussion going, I will be happy to post with you. To the good UNT fans here (almost all of you) I'm sorry if any of my reactionary posts were negative about UNT players and traditions. Living in the Denton area for years I enjoy UNT athletics as a second team although UH will always be my first love. BTW is there an Ignore function on this board? Don't use that often but sometimes it is needed
  14. Says the guy with the -320 rating. Surprised you haven't been banned. UH fan has a positive rating almost as high as your negative rating. At least you're good at being a troll because you've shown no football knowledge.
  15. 3-2 with the Rams. I bet if Dunbar hadn't got hurt, the Cowboys make the playoffs because 95 yards rushing per season is excelling. He excels so much that hopefully someday he will score a TD. Why do you have to act so stupid that you make me be a jerk on the UNT board responding to you? UNT fans should be proud of Dunbar playing in the league, just like UH fans should be proud of Keenum playing. But no, you have to act the fool and act like Dunbar is all pro while UH fans should be embarrassed by Keenum.
  16. Predictable that you couldn't respond to proper rebuttals. I'd love for Lopez to never visit UH, but don't lie and say you do, just like lying about Allen and Herman meeting at UH. Based on his correctness of facts, who do you think made up crap? You call me a Keenum fanboy, but let me guess, you think Lance Dunbar is an amazing RB? It really is ok to like pros from your school, even if they won't be HOFers. You should pray that UNT ever has a college QB as great as Keenum. Might turn the program around.
  17. Allen's parents said he was in Arizona with them. Is that not proof to you? Or does Lopez know more about where Allen is than his parents that he was with. If the meeting happened, which there is proof that it didn't, dead period started 12/14/15. Per Lopez's article, the meeting was to occur on 12/13. Therefore not in the dead period. So he can hide behind "sources said". So if I say my sources say John Lopez has sex with goats, is that ok even if it is not the truth? After all, I didn't say it, my sources did Who says Lopez is well respected? A&M fans? He said that Sumlin was going to AZ. Did he? He said he had sources saying Herman was going to GA. Did he? He is catching hell from reporters and other talk show hosts about this. Haven't seen a single reporter or talk show host in Houston supporting him. Again not a recruiting violation and again he's been proven wrong by Allen's parents,. His reputation at this point in his career is as a shock jock on sports radio. He gains plenty from lying because he's controversial and is getting some people to tune in to see what other garbage he'll throw against the wall. Again we know it wasn't a true story. Even if he had "sources" (hopefully better than UGA_Insider which he has cited before), all it took was a quick call to Herman or UH's athletic dept. Nope. He didn't even attempt that And there are quite a few coaches with good relationships with coaches, ADs, etc. Lopez had NO relationship or source at UH. And if you think a reporter is going to suppress a story that will advance their career to protect a buddy coach, you're a fool. If you think Berman or Duarte (the real respected journalists in Houston sports, not Lopez) only listens to Herman or the SID, you're crazy. They have official and unofficial sources. And they get the story right. Never seen those 2 say a thing about UH sports that wasn't true. Lopez is wrong quite frequently and always negatively. Ah yes, UH fans are stupid about football... And you are a beacon of football knowledge saying we don't know if Allen was in Houston, despite his parents saying he was in AZ with them. We have 1 main idiot fan that bothers UNT fans, and too many other fanbases, CougarKing. We hate him too. He's banned from our message board and many others. I wish you guys would ban him because I hate seeing his stuff and his tainting of UH fans' reputations. I think you'll find most of our fans to be knowledgeable and polite, just like most UNT fans (although I've seen some idiot ones from your group too. You don't fall in that category even though I'm disagreeing with you today). But there are the CKs out there for all teams that make their fanbases look bad. I'm going to be nice and respectful to all the UNT fans here regarding relevancy and fan counts based in a large metroplex. I hope that Seth Littrell and UNT have enough success to have any story have any national prominence of this type, positive or negative. UNT fans would kill for the success he had at TT. Sadly they'd rather have his Wazzu history (2 bowl games in 4 years, 21-29 overall) than the last 4 years under McCarney. Hopefully Littrell turns that around. And since when did TT have unlimited resources? One of the biggest sources of tension between the TT administration and Leach was that he was always looking for a new job, partially just to get raises. If he was paid his worth at TT especially relative to the success level he had vs other Big 12 coaches, that wouldn't have been happening. And here's a new addition to Lopez's bio "In my time covering sports in Houston, you are the 10th Houston Cougars head football coach that I’ve covered. You also are the best, in my opinion. I’m a huge fan of yours. My son is a proud Houston Cougar and I regularly go to games — as a fan." Per sources to the Houston Press (I just had to): "It could have all been prevented if Lopez and/or Wright had ever actually bothered to make their presence known at the University of Houston. They never attended a practice this season. They never came to a game. They never came to a press conference. They had Herman on just once during the season, and never bothered to talk to him at any other time. " More lies from Lopez Jeff Fisher expects Case Keenum back as starting QB of Rams next season.
  18. And if you want to know about the quality of Lopez's other sources, he said his source told him that Herman was going to be head coach at the University of Georgia. His source? A twitter account named UGA_Insider with less than 100 followers. So if you put together a twitter account and named it UNT_Insider, got a couple of buddies to follow it, and said that RV was fired and UH's AD was taking over, Lopez would consider you a source.
  19. No recruiting violation, especially since it was on the phone. The only way it would have been a recruiting violation would have been in person (which it wasn't) and during the dead period (which it wasn't). The problem is that the other QB recruit felt lied to about an in person visit from Allen which Herman said they didn't have. It's about credibility with recruits. Herman had been honest with the recruit about interest in Allen Lopez is an Aggie hack who had his facts wrong. When you say that someone is in Houston to visit and the person is in Arizona, that's a completely wrong fact. Even Allen's parents were confused when they saw the story because he was home with them. All Lopez had to do was call and ask if Allen was in town and Herman would have told him no. End of story. Lopez thought his "source" had a scoop. He either didn't have a source, which is likely, or his source was wrong, which is still Lopez's job to follow up. And his buddies didn't get scooped. His buddies had the facts correct. Lopez is just POed that he thought he had a scoop, but instead he was flat out wrong.
  20. Define mid-70s. Yes in 1975, UH was bad, but consistency has never been UH's thing, especially since Yeoman redshirted anyone of value that year to prep for the first year in the SWC. UH finished ranked in 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1978, and 1979. including 2 top 10 finishes and 2 top 5 finishes. 1972 UH went 6-4-1, 1975 2-8, 1977 6-5. So yes UNT was better than UH a couple of years in the 1970s. But other than those 2 years, UH was far beyond anything UNT has ever done. And to be clear, UH finished ranked in 1966 - 1969 too. So it wasn't joining the SWC where UH became established. Our success and rankings forced the SWC to take UH partly to control us (SWC forced changes in UH recruiting and even required our opponents to determine we played our home games for a few years). The SWC required the football team to wait 5 years to compete in the conference even though we officially a member in 1972. And UH was a basketball force long before the SWC too. Final fours in 1967 and 1968. Ever heard of the game of the century between UH and UCLA at the Astrodome?
  21. By the title, I thought this thread was going to be about Tom Herman meeting with Paul Wall to get fitted for his grill.
  22. Levine as DC is a very odd suggestion. Most of his career has been as a special teams coach which he is very good at. Second most experience is as offensive position coach. Only defensive experience is 2 years as OLB coach to go along with his special teams duties
  23. It's a multipurpose facility that's not ideal for football. The Olympic sports are getting great use out of it, but not so much for football. Seems wasteful I know, but it's what's going on in the facilities arms race. Lots of football only weight rooms being built now too. Just Herman insuring that he gives himself the best chance to win at UH. If the school doesn't do what it needs to do for Herman to be successful, he can walk more easily. It shows that both parties are committed to improvement instead of the status quo.
  24. Very true, but he's proven that he can with with the same players that the prior coach couldn't win with. That means he's better at talent development than the prior staff.
  25. I wouldn't normally post this here, but since you have so many other coaching topics, I thought I'd add one. Herman signed a new contract with UH today Highlights from the contract $2.8 million annuallyAdditional $200k to assistant salary pool$2.5 million buyout before 2/2017Reduced buyout if indoor practice facility not approved by 9/2016, at or near completion by 12/2017, moved in by 12/2018$5 million bonus if UH becomes member of a conference w/annual TV revenue >=$20 million per member while he's coach
