  1. Good point OldTimer..... TD came here under terrible circumstances and has endured "Twilight Zone" circumstances. Starting Freshmen, Redshirt Freshmen, Seniors with no starting experience, ex-HS QB's, sophmores, sophmores with multiple injuries, racial alligations, all the injuries this year..............amazes me how he was able to stay in so many games last year and come close again this year to those elusive wins this year. Appears the team does not give up...........that is a good sign attributed to coaching. Appears the NT defense has stepped up.......thanks to Coach DeLoach. Appears Coach Canales has brought the needed expertise of his NFL and major college coaching to our program. Can not wait for the NFL lineman, that Coach C brought with him, to start coaching next year. Since the mid to late sixties I have never seen an NT football program be the star in a Twilight Zone production. Boston had the "Curse of the Bambino" (oooops.....and so do the Rangers-----1st in War, 1st in Peace & Last in the American League....that's right they used to be the Washington Senators) and now I am begining to believe that Rod Serling's ghost has taken up residence in Fouts Field....four or five years ago. IF coaching changes have to occur it would be my wish that the entire staff remains with Coach Canales as HC and Coach Dodge as OC and everyone else stay in place. I borrowed .02 from PMG http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIhAEJMe-ik&feature=related our political corruption is the strength of our enemies
  2. IF TD has to be relieved at the end of this season I would like to see Coach Canales step into the HC position and perhaps TD as the OC and all the other coaches remain where they are. IMHO, Coach DeLoach has done a great job with the defense and perhaps that (I can not remember his name) NFL lineman who followed Coach Canales to NT will be promoted to an assistant. Perhaps Coach Dodge can learn a little more about the game at the college level from Coach Canales who has an excellent resume at both college and pro. I really hope that everyone can see the one really big talent that Coach Dodge has is recruiting.
  3. http://www.cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/wac/new_mexico_state/index.php To paraphrase PMG....NMSU is more of a coaching graveyard than NT. Nine winning seasons since 1960.....unfortunately, I saw a couple of those games when dad was transfered from Roswell AFB and stationed at this god forsaken radar site just west of Las Cruces which is now the Donna Anna Fairgrounds. Yep.....the aliens did crash there.
  4. \ Dear Flaunter...., Please "deposit" $14,000,000 at the nearest UNT fundraiser box for a coach and his staff for the next years.....and like magic your wish will come true. Of course you will have to ante up another 18,000,000 to 22 million after the four years are up because you will want to give this successful coach and his staff a raise. Sincerely your......
  5. +1 FLF... the defense has kept NT competitive in all the games this year ... even clemson to some respect since NT did not get "blown out" to a BCS school as in the past. injuries.....to over half the starters....
  6. +1...........excellent post PMG season is not half over and look at all the injuries.
  7. defensive line http://media2.myfoxphilly.com/slideshows/lingeriebowl/1/lg/Lingerie%20Bowl%20III%20-%20Action%20Image.htm
  8. sounds like good advise to me from someone who has won a couple of national championships. anyone can learn from anyone.
  9. That d*** Harry is taking all the "epissles" out of your posts!!! That ain't right man, it just ain't right. "DANG"
  10. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/8029948/First-World-War-officially-ends.html dang, that was a long war.
  11. very good Quoner....you get a <1 on that.

  13. IMHO, I believe we have the right coaches at the right time. DeLoach is a proven "D" coach and Canales is a proven "O" coach in college and the pros. Even Coach Dodge admitted that in his post game interview after the FAU game. I look for more wins this season...possibly 3 for 3 at Fouts the next three weeks. 3 for 3 3 for 3
  14. I am on the "Dodge Train." Always have been. I believe the FAU game demonstrated that Coach DeLoach has put together a very very good "Defense." The post game interview stated that DeLoach said it was "OLD STYLE" defense. I thought he had put together a pretty good defense around a bunch a really good players. Now it is going to be up to the "OLD STYLE" "D" guys to keep playing how they played against FAU. Coach Dodge gave Coach Canales a great deal of praise how he had worked with QB Riley Dodge and his game plan. Our running backs gave the "O" line just about all the effort last night. Even with about a dozen players out for the year or so last night gave me some more hope that the back ups are really pretty good players and that NT may be deeper than what we, as fans, think. For those who jumped off the train the last couple of weeks good to have you back on the train. You are either on or off the train.....just pick one for the rest of the season.
  15. PMG, good points....but....I was one of the last hold outs on Coach Dickey too. You know I just believe that Coach Dodge is a good coach that came into a very bad situation and endured a plethora of tribulations since arriving. IHMO, I just believe that give the man two years (his fifth year +1) because even I can not believe he could win six or seven games with what is left. This same talk was going around when Coach Dickey won the "Miricle in Las Cruces" game which was the imputus to all the SBC titles. We will see what happens for the rest of this year. RV has the final say. I believe CMJ may want to reconsider keeping the coaching staff if his wish comes true. I think Canales is excellent along with DeLoach and the new NFL lineman volunteer. That, to me would make a great core of NFL and major college experience and keep some sort of continuity with familiarity to the program / players.
  16. Two years with a full deck......a normal amount of injuries is what is expected (including if Dunbar or something goes down to injury) in football but not ten starters plus all the other situations that I have mentioned over the last four years. and..........Yes...........you do have that correct. That would be Coach Dodge's fifth year under contact and one additional. If Coach Dodge can not right the ship after that Coach Canales does not seem so bad as a possible HC and keeping Coach DeLoach I think would be in order. Both seem to be qualified in their positions and having major NCAA and NFL experience for Coach C.
  17. CMJ, I would make my decision after two years with a full deck. If it is still 3-9 after two years then I will jump on the bus with the majority and ask for another coach.
  18. Got to agree with you OldTimer..... 1. Everyone seems to forget about this same thread the last two years of Coach Dickey. Enough said about Coach Dickey. 2. Coach Dodge began with a bunch of really really really bad players except for, maybe, a handful. In the decades that I have been watching NT football ..... the days when you went home and pulled splinters out of your backside because the wooden seat were somewhat delapidated, the reminants of Coach Dickey's team had to be one of the worst if not the worst overall bunch. 3. Grades.....enough said. 4. Racial striff....enough said. 5. Players quiting....for whatever reason it happens to all programs. 6. Starting freshmen QB's in two of the four years. 7. Having to move players around to fill holes from lack of depth. 8. Playing more freshmen and sophmore than just about any other D1 program for the first two years....see also #2. 9. Somehow Coach Dodge was able to get consistanly better players every year for some reason. hummmmm. 10. Became more competitive defensively....just look at the numbers. 11. Last year was a tear jerker loosing six games by a touchdown or less. Much better than his first two years. 12. Got Coach Canales this year plus his NFL volunteer buddy. 13. Tune....one start before this year. Looked good against Alabama, Clemson and Rice....INJURED...out for this year. 14. Thompson....back up.....INJURED for this season. 15. RDodge......injury prone and bad collar bone in throwing apendage...our new QB. 16. 10 STARTERS out for year....next highest....Utah State with five. I have never ever seen an NT coach so snakebit in over forty years. Personally I believe that Coach Dodge has the players and coaches to win.....the players and especially the QB's must stay healthy. I would give Coach Dodge his FIFTH YEAR considering the circumstances and if he did well next year EXTEND his contract. Let Coach Dodge play with a FULL DECK for two years than a half a deck for four.
  19. untjim, thanks for the reply. When Coach Dodge was going through all these tribulations many of these same posters who are wanting him to depart were supporting him. IMHO, I would much rather watch what Coach Dodge can do with a full deck of cards for two years than with a half of deck for four. So what if you get a new coach next year....and what if all of Coach Dodge's players are healthy including the QB's and the new coach wins seven or eight games. Do you contribute the success to Coach Dodge for having the talent here or the new coach for wining? Kinda reminds me when Coach Mitchell retired after the end of the '66 season and Coach Rusk (an offensive or defensive coordinator at Stanford) took over in the '67 season. Who did he begin with? three first round future nfl draft picks and bunch of other really good guys. you would have thought that Coach Rusk could have built upon that success in those "Mean Green" glory years. Na, could not recruit on success. NT fell into the abyss. We do know that Coach Dodge can recruit. We do know that Coach Dodge has had all sorts of intangible problems on and off the field.......Like I said before, if I were RV I would bring back Coach Dodge for another season and let him play with a FULL DECK for at least two years instead of a half a deck which he has been playing with since his arrival. Agree or not that is the way I feel about ... and ... evidently I am in the minority opinion.
  20. Hey, why not get that North Dakota State coach that beat Kansas.....i'm sure he has connections in the upper midwest and canada....... hey, why not get that James Madison coach that beat Virginia Tech....whow......he can bring some of those east coast players that everyone overlooks..... hey, what is Jerry Glanville doing these days....we could get him cheap. hey, all Lou Holtz is doing is sitting around giving commentary on ESPN.....he would jump at a chance to coach at NT's new stadium besides he still has a bunch of contacts around the world. hey, Patino might retire this season.....we could get all those Penn players....and ya know 80+ aint that old anymore. besides we have warmer falls and winters here in Denton...... Ya think that Jerry Moore might reconsider coming back to Denton since he took Appy State to the Big House and beat Michigan? I read on a blog that he still likes Denton. Hurry....call RV on this one. Slocom for a HC and Fry as his assistant.....how about that one? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  21. ok PMG I will hold you to it under one condition: you buy the first i buy the second. If at the end of the first quarter things don't look so good you buy the third and I the fourth. If things still don't look so good after the second you the fifth and I the sixth. By the end of the game if we see someone's ugly sister I will arm wrestle you for her....your 59 year old Indian body against my "11.4 in the hundred" 61 year old body. Which reminds me of a quote from Sir Winston Churchill after taking an insult from some obese woman at a party. Churchill remarked....Madame, tonight I may be drunk but tomorrow I will be sober ... tomorrow you will still be fat and ugly......
  22. A reanactment of some Commanche battle against the white eyes. ok PMG, I am baiting you for a story.

  24. One day Adam was walking through the Garden of Eden and noticed all the animals with mates and how well they got along. Adam asked God for a mate and He said what would you like in this mate? Adam said that it would be required that she cook, clean, skin the meat, always keep his house clean, rub his back etc., etc., etc......... God said it would cost him an arm or a leg. Adam asked what could he get for a rib.
