Hate to see that happen to TCU. We all know why there is a Fort Worth Bowl!! Just as we know why there are about 5 or 6 other useless bowl games.....because.....it gives their home town teams a guaranteed bowl game and a payout at the end of the season. Look at the Silicon Valley Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, F-W Bowl etc etc etc. If the home team is not in the bowl then whose butts are they going to put in the seats? Who in FW is going to pay the admission price to see two teams play that are from Ohio and West Virginia?? It's like saying who in Idaho would go see LaTech play in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho against Florida Atlantic? No slam against LaTech or FAU on that analogy. If Boise did not play in that Bowl every year (except last year) the place would be as full as Amon Carter Stadium (TCU). If sponsors can not draw from regional teams then they can expect to take a beating on attendance. In my humble opinion there are way too many bowl games anyway. If half of D-1 goes to a bowl then bowl games loose all there significance. The only people who care is the athletic departments who get about as much money as if they played one of the major college teams and the subsequent payola from getting their butts beat by 30 or 65 points. Naturally, what we need is a legitamate D-1 playoff system like all other college sports but that will not happen as long as the BCS is pandering to all the so called "big time conferences." On any given Saturday any major university can get beat. Two years ago LaTech beat Michigan State and last year Troy defeated Missouri and got robbed at LSU.

In the last 2 years here are the comparisons of LaTech and UNT LaTech 2003 5-7 and 2004 6-6 U N T 2003 9-4 and 2004 7-5 UNT is ranked higher than LaTech in all the pre-season polls. UNT recruits better than LaTech

I think we all know that the "conference shake up/shake downs" are not completely over!! As long as we are winning and getting ever increasing exposure like we have been over the last 2-3 years UNT will be in position to move to (1) C-USA or (2) A newly formed conference with possible teams from WAC/C-USA/Sun Belt teams. We all know that DD is building a football dominate program in our region. The only drawbacks are: 1. No new stadium complex, yet!! We all know how important that is for conference affiliation!! We have a first rate program playing in an outdated and ugly stadium. You have to give it to DD and his recruiters to bring recruits to UNT and show them our present facilities and get them to sign on the dotted line. We need progress on the NEW stadium NOW!! 2. Scheduling some OOC games that we can win. Slim chance to win at LSU but great exposure if we keep it close with no blow out.....anything can happen. NTSU 21...Tenn 14. Anything can happen. K-State I think will be closer than what a lot of people think. Perhaps last year was the begining of the end of K-State dominance. Tulsa and LaTech should be hard fought wins. DD has been recruiting better than Tulsa and LaTech over the last 2 - 3 years. Our OOC record may not show it but we have played some pretty tough OOC games since DD arrived. 3. Attendance. Support DD and what he has done at UNT because look where we were and where we have come and what we are about to do!!

What is the latest word on our QB situation.... Did the Big "B" pass?? How about the other QB's rehab ... is he ready?? Do we have a good 3rd stringer at QB??

Texas Wesleyn

Texas Wesleyn University, according to today's Fort Worth Star Telegram, is again hosting the 2006 Table Tennis (Ping Pong) Championships and maybe broadcast on ESPN. Time for UNT to get a team. -
Wanna' Put This New Stadium Behind Us? Then Hire

Great Idea with Coach Fry......it might be harder with Coach Blakely. If ya'll remember he was disenchanted with the administration/athletic department when he departed from NTSU. I do not remember the exact circumstances but there appeared to be some hard feelings. The same type of sitution happened to Coach Spika who had all those great NTSU teams in the toughest conference in America. If you look at it --- all UNT alum are recruiters. What we say and present ourselves to prospective recruits may sway some great talent to come here. I am sure the JJ or DD would appreciate it. -

Blakely as a fundraiser for UNT?? Great idea ..... BUT ..... he really did not appreciate how the administration was running the program. His personal views of NTSU, at the time, were extreely poor. Good luck if you can pull that off with Coach Blakely. He got the shaft just like Coach Spika who had those phenominal teams in the the toughest conference in the nation in the 60's and early 70's. -
Heisman Watch: Top 100 candidates Story Tools: Print Email Richard Cirminiello / CollegeFootballNews.com Posted: 20 days ago A full century of Heisman candidates for the upcoming 2005 season might look like a cop out to the cynic. However, in this era of out-of-the-blue finalists, such as Alex Smith, Adrian Peterson, Brad Banks and Carson Palmer, you almost have to go that deep in order to include all viable contenders. That said, if USC can navigate unscathed through a manageable schedule, is there a player on the planet that can keep Matt Leinart from joining Archie Griffin as the only two-time Heisman winners in collegiate history? Here we go with 81 through 100. Heisman candidates: 1-20 | 21-40 | 41-60 | 61-80 | 81-100 81. QB Joel Klatt, Colorado — Klatt had a rocky junior year, but it wasn't all his fault; his receivers dropped at least two or three balls every game. The quarterback should rebound as part of a Buff team that'll compete for Big XII North supremacy. 2005 Preview ... Get the College Football News Preview 2005 in print, including printable schedules and complete team updates. CLICK HERE 82. WR Santonio Holmes, Ohio State — Holmes' continued development as a big-play receiver will likely get overshadowed in 2005 by the presence of budding superstar, Ted Ginn Jr. 83. QB John Beck, Jason Beck or Matt Berry, BYU — Ty Detmer's school records are safe, however, new offensive coordinator Robert Anae plans to open up the passing game, and Berry or one of the Becks will benefit. John Beck started 10 games last year, and earned second-team All-Mountain West honors. 84. RB DonTrell Moore, New Mexico — Moore is one of the premier backs in the country, but a torn ACL in last year's Emerald Bowl will keep him sidelined through possibly this summer. 85. WR Steve Smith, USC — Smith's three-touchdown explosion on the Oklahoma secondary in last year's Orange Bowl may have been a sneak preview of things to come this fall. 86. QB Josh Betts, Miami (OH) — Betts failed to make Miami fans forget Ben Roethlisberger last year, but as the season wore on, he did build a nice foundation for his senior year. The healthy return of top receiver Martin Nance gives Betts a chance to challenge for all-conference honors. 87. RB Jerious Norwood, Mississippi State — Head coach Sylvester Croom knows running backs, and he's got a good one in Norwood, an All-SEC performer, who'll be the focal point of the Bulldog offense. 88. QB Brett Basanez, Northwestern — Basanez is coming off a solid junior year, and is poised to spend the 2005 season stamping himself as the most prolific passer in school history. 89. QB Shaun Carney, Air Force — Carney, who led the Falcons in passing and rushing as a freshman, enters 2005 as the undisputed leader under center. With a year behind him and a veteran line in front of him, he figures to make marked strides as the academy's offensive leader. 90. WR Jarrett Hicks, Texas Tech — Whichever quarterback wins the starting job in Lubbock, he'll spend much of the upcoming season playing catch with Hicks, a sure-handed, 6-foot-4 receiver, who had 76 catches and 13 touchdowns in 2004. 91. RB Jamario Thomas or Patrick Cobbs, North Texas — In Thomas and Cobbs, the Mean Green boast the country's leading rusher in each of the last two years. As long as both are healthy, any remote run at Heisman recognition will be eliminated. 92. QB Brian Johnson, Utah — Check back in two years, and Johnson, a poor man's Chris Leak, could be hobnobbing among the Top 25. Replacing Alex Smith and losing Urban Meyer, however, makes 2005 a difficult transition year. 93. WR Andre Caldwell or Dallas Baker, Florida — Urban Meyer's system has a penchant for turning good receivers into stars, and Caldwell has the speed and athleticism to turn plenty of those patented shovel passes into six points. Baker was a star this spring. 94. RB Cornell Brockington, UConn — Brockington parlayed his Big East-leading 1,218 yards rushing into all-conference honors last year, but an already crowded backfield welcomes back Terry Caulley, which could mean fewer touches in 2005. 95. QB Jordan Palmer, UTEP — Palmer certainly needs to address the bad reads that led to 18 interceptions in 2004, however, another season in Mike Price's system could help him improve on the 26 touchdown passes he tossed. 96. WR Jason Avant, Michigan — The graduation of Braylon Edwards paves the way for Avant to become Chad Henne's go-to receiver on a Wolverine offense that'll have no problem scoring in 2005. 97. ATH Derrick Wiliams, Penn State — Forget the Heisman. If the Lions' super recruit can breathe a little life into a deceased offense, he deserves to be canonized. 98. RB Chris Barclay, Wake Forest — Wake's steady Barclay has quietly rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons. The return of four starting offensive linemen ensures a third straight for the senior. 99. RB Carlton Jones, Army — Jones has led the Cadets in rushing in each of the last three seasons, but it was last year's 1,269-yard, 17-touchdown outburst, which catapulted the senior from the ranks of the unknown. 100. WR Ashlan Davis, Tulsa — If opposing kickers don't pitch around Davis as if he's Barry Bonds, the All-American return man might smash his own record of five returns for touchdowns in a single season. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Steve Ramsey was the NTSU QB there began a rivalry with SDSU. NTSU & SDSU's QB were two of the top QB's in the nation in passing yardage/stats. It was like almost every week there was some sort of update on the major channels about these two QB's. I can not remember the name of the SDSU QB. The same type of rivalry was brewing, if you remember, between UNT and Holy Cross when we both D-1AA. We tried to set up a series of games but H.C. refused.

Saw in the paper where LaLa is #21 in the Nation in Baseball. Sun Belt baseball must be pretty good.

New Mexico State hires Reggie Theus
eulesseagle replied to bdan2002's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Did not the University of Houston hire Calvin Murphy in the 90's to bring that program back???? I might be wrong on the name but this former U of H player and former NBA star did not do well at U of H. I believe he ended up getting fired after a few dismal seasons. You just never know. Personally, I believe we are in the right position with JJ leading our program. -

Move all Men's BB games to "Snake Pit"
eulesseagle replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Basketball
you are right old timer......i remember from, i think, from 1969-1970 NTSU only lost 1 game in the Pit and that was to Louisville in 1969. That is when Denny Crum made his immortal statement about NTSU fans, "This is the worse crowd in the nation." Well yea man, fans would be sitting 2 feet from the playing floor screaming, beating our feet on the wooden bleacher, throwing ice on the floor on bad ref calls, throwing rubber snakes on the floor during bad calls.....With all the noise and the poor accoustics in that place it sounded like there were 20x more people in there than there was. The best game was when Denny Crum brought his nationally ranked Louisville Cards in 1970 with all the banners that read, "Worse Crowd in the Nation." The next best was the Drake game when we beat them in double or triple overtime in 1970. Drake got beat by UCLA in the semi-finals of the NCAA playoffs that year.....that is how powerful the old Missouri Valley Conference was in the 60's and 70s. Those are my best memories of the best games I saw..... I also saw the DePaul game with Mike McGuire in the 80's when Blankley was coach...that place was packed and rockin....but nothin like the ole Pit. -

Personally, I think UNT Basketball is getting ready to turn the corner and be a sucessful program in the Sun Belt. 1) UNT is not getting beaten by large double digit scores....even though we ended up 14-14 we lost several games in the single digits that we could have won. 2) JJ has brought in the best players, I think, he could get despite UNT's reputation for not excelling in BB with the exception of a handfull of years in the past 35 years. 3) JJ is not here to build a mediocre team. He came highly recommended from his LSU coach....who stood beside him during his initial press conference at UNT. 4) Personally, I think it takes a little time to build a quality program at a Mid-Major like UNT and unlike Texas Tech who was able to land Bobby Knight(who donates his salary to the Library at TTU) or Louisville who got Pitino for major bucks. UNT does not have that financial support. So it goes to the age old question that we have always had at NTSU/UNT.....you get what you pay for. Do you think that if NTSU had the bucks to keep Hayden Fry he would have left to go to Iowa?? 5) I like the soft schedule we played in our OOC games....a little tougher than the Texas A&M schedule though but I think it did build confidence in our team. This is the same thing that all major programs do to build their records before conference starts....and.....this almost ensures a consistant winning record at the end of the season--despite how one does in conference....look at what TCU did with Tubbs and what A&M did in conference play. 6) Keep JJ...he will get the players that we need to start winning again.

CBS said that La-La may be a bracket buster in their first round against Louisville. It would be nice to see a Sun Belt team make it past the first round. -

Rick-- It was not Gayles.....and he was the head coach of Midland J.C. when Spud Webb played there. After he was turned down by NTSU he was hired by UT-Arlington. He sometimes stated that he always wanted to coach at NTSU.

Texas A&M's first 10 games for their great turnaround season begining at 10-0 was: N.C. A&T, Trinity, UT-Permian Basin, Oakland, Prairie View A&M, Alabama A&M, La-Monroe, Chicago State, Grambling and Houston. UNT could have been 10-0 with a cake walk like this schedule.
