The Tuesday Night Elections
eulesseagle replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
FFR, got to agree. His political ad when the stimulus packages where up for a vote was a classic. Blue jeans, cowboy hat, western shirt, looking over the West Texas Desert and saying in his best Texan accent how independent Texas voters are....blah blah blah and how he was "not" going to vote for the stimulus....a week later Cornyn votes for the stimulus. Kay Baily has done that plenty of times and perhaps that is why Texas voters gave Perry the Governorship. Then the voters have to put up with the ususal post vote statements. 1. "well I just wanted to vote for it so I could vote against it on the next vote." 2. "well I just voted for some of the measures in the bill and not the whole bill." 3. "well I voted for it so the committee could review the bill further before it goes across the hall and if I don't like it then ... then I will vote against it." 4. "well I voted for it so we can make some changes to it next time." Same 'ol lies that politicians told our great great grandparents still work today. Personally, I would like to get rid of the 17th Admendment....sending senators by popular vote to Washington. Up to Wilson the senators were elected and sent by the individual state legislatures. IMHO, this was one of the major steps in the erosion of states rights to a larger centralized government. There were, essentially, no career senators then because the senators were at the becon call of the 48 state governments. If the individual state governments did not like what their senator was doing they would vote him out and put someone else in who represented their state more appropriately. Senators no longer, in general, represent the interest of their states but vote to represent the overall interest of their party.....even when it adversly effects their state. -

Flyer, I appreciate what you are saying but my intent was that since the New Deal (really the Raw Deal) and the Great Society the Democrats have built upon their measures and the Republicans have done nothing to reduce the size of that government the Democrats enacted. The Republicans and Democrats, prior to any election, drift toward the center, blame each other, get elected then drift back to where they were before. When the Republicans have taken control of the Presidency and/or Congress they do absolutely nothing to reduce or eliminate the size of government. Like clockwork the Republicans begin to compromise with the Democrats to "piece-meal" the greater size of government. Incramentalism is the correct word. Just the same way the Fabians did it in England begining in the 1880's and how they blind sided the Labor Party into their ideals then just like a frog taking a bath in an increasingly bath of warm water they woke up and they were cooked. Today the Labor Party is the embodiment of socialism similar to the Democratic Party. Just watch......the Republicans will begin their "hat-in-hand" tactic of compromising on all of the last legislature's enactments to grow the size of government by enacting bits and pieces of Obama Care...ect.....ect....ect.... Will they stop the growth of government? History says no. If I choose to vote third party it is because they have a platform to reduce the size of government and give control back to the states & not the other way around.....and that is what I believe.....what I also stated was that if either mainstream party took up those ideals and began to implement them I may support them....but....until then I will vote for the party that best represents me and not for a party that may win just to vote for a winner and to say I voted for a winner. Heck, I encourage all people to vote for who they believe but I also tell them that both parties will pick your pocket and make your wallet their personal ATM machine. Stalin once said, and I paraphrase, I don't care how many people vote for whom but what counts is who counts the vote. _________________________________ America's political corruption has become the strength of our enemies. -

Flyer, I do not vote to throw away my vote but vote to cast my ballot on the individual who best represents me. _____________________ -

What big social spending programs have the Republicans eliminated once they are in control since FDR and LBJ? I can not even count it on one finger. The Republicans are just as much at fault as the Democrats for expanding the size of government. Once the Republicans are committed to reducing the size of government....or even the Democrats....then I might decide to vote for that "mainstream" party again. Until then, I vote at every election but I vote for "third party" candidates. I vote third party because I want the mainstream parties to know that I do not support them making government bigger and using my wallet as their personal ATM machine. At one time I truely believed in the two party system but now I am entrenched in the belief that every two, four and six years both mainsteam parties fight to see who is going to be the engineer of the one train that is sapping my financial strength and forcefully placing more American citizens on the federal welfare rolls. _________________ America's political corruption has become the strength of our enemies. -
26 UNT fowls.......(more appropriate for the eagles than fouls) for a team coached by a highly touted "assistant coach" from a bcs conference. get rid of the women's coach......do the same for her what rv is going to do for the fb team.

Unt Vs Troy Score Prediction Thread
eulesseagle replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
NT 31 Troy 17 Defense shines, Dunbar runs wild, the Freshman RB rips off close to 100 and RD no INTs. -
I can only think that Jim Harbaugh pass up the NT deal after he went from QB coach to HC for DII San Diego and his last two years of three were 11-1. Since he has been at Stanford.....#10 this week. I believe he was a volunteer assistant at WKU for a while .... with his dad. Anyway......picking a HC at NT, just like other places, is almost a crap shoot. Name coaches fizzle ... look at Notre Dame, Minnesota, Texas Tech....etc. Canales may be a Levitt clone....who knows....and he may win. Levitt may win or not............who knows....??? Myself like others want someone/somebody.....who can turn it around.....and we all have opinions who that someone might be. If Ann Coulter could coach & have coaching experience and recruiting experience in Texas I would want her.

ElToro6.....PMG is a BIG NT fan. You should meet him sometime. I do know that PMG want the best for NT athletics and above all he is a staunch proponent of getting the "BEST" coach to take the reigns of the FB program like many of you who voted on Harry's poll. Personally, I voted for Coach Canalles because I see desire and motivation. My reasons conflict with PMG....but I do respect his opinion. As far as his diatribe about how long he has supported the program I know he, Silver Eagle, Eulessismore, OldTimer and a few others have been in the seats at Fouts Field (maybe OldTimer saw some where the Library sits)for a long time and given their historical perspective on how NT treated the athletic program. Some BCS mantras are: Million/Billions for athletics and not a cent for education while some schools, as somewhat explained by PMG et.al. are Millions/Billions for education and not a cent for athletics. PMG, et.al., want a big name coach to fill the stands and become the next TCU/Boise State....and perhaps SMU (ya cant fault what happening on "The Hill." BTW, PMG and I agree on plenty and disagree on a few.

What assistant coach doesn't learn from a HC? Fry/Snyder......Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Don't we play K-State the last game of the season against Coach Snyder? Some HC's are harbingers for their assistants.

5 Things Canales Can Do To Become A Better Candidate
eulesseagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
With all the injuries that NT currently has do you think that win five is realistic? Beat WKU and ULM and hope to stay DD close in the fourth to pull out maybe one of three....TU, MTSU or KSU. I would be satisfied with that and pray that RD does not get injured again. -
5 Things Canales Can Do To Become A Better Candidate

Sounds reasonable enough for me. Personally, IMHO, Canales would do an excellent job with the current staff and players. But then I did vote to keep Canales on the poll. -
Attendance At Smu Homecoming Vs Houston Coogs'?
eulesseagle replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
SMU should have built a Kibbie Dome to keep the rain off their fans almost the same way that the French planted all the trees down all their steets to keep the sun of the Germans as they paraded. -
Harry, is this another "would have, should have, could have post?" An old preacher of mine once said, " there is nothing you can do about YESTERDAY but you can start TODAY to make a brand new future." That is true for football as it is life. What IF NT kept Bill Snyder? Would we be calling our new stadium the "Bill Synder Family Stadium?" What IF NT kept Ken Bahnsen (sp) as a coach? What IF NT came up with a bunch of money and kept Haden Fry? The "ONLY" thing that the past is good for is to learn from it and for some people write books about it. As for NT........Onward through the fog. -------America's political corupution has become the strength of our enemies-------

Coach Dodge? Does anyone know how much "MONEY" that RV and the BOR is going to spend on our next coach? Does anyone know what the "TOTAL" salaries are for "all" the current coaching staff? Just a guess but I would say about a little short of a million. I would think that part of the negotiation process is how much "MONEY" NT is willing to spend to bring in the "new" coaches assistants. Just a thought. Who really wants to switch jobs to make "less" money unless your current HC is on the ESPN Hot Seat this year? Just a guess, again, .... I would say that the SBC is the lowest paying Non AQ conference in D-1. Where does NT stand in the SBC as far as coaching salaries. I really do not think that RV and the BOR is going to pay much more than what the "prevailing" salaries are for the SBC. If RV and the BOR decide that NT needs to have the highest paid coach and coaching staff in the SBC....our HC....it is my prediction....would eclipes that mark by less than $40,000/yr. The key is prevailing salaries in the SBC. And that is the reason why OU has a Ruth Chris Steak House and NT has Jack in the Box.

How can you mistreat a football player????? you can't physically. sic Dr. Phil on him during practice and get to his "real emotional feelings?" Tell us how he mistreated this ONE player?
-
It is ok to banter around all the "name" coaches. You forget one big aspect...................... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ How much $$$$ is NT willing to spend when in the past their purse strings are tighter than you know what?? There is nothing wrong with dreaming, drinkin' the kool aide and imagining that NT's coffers are full of cash to dole out to coaches who have made two, three, four, five and six times more than what NT currently pays. What sort of pay cut do you think Coach DeLoach took moving from UCLA to NT?? Think about it. NT still has to pay Coach Dodge for 1 1/2 more years.....regardless of whatever is in the contract & I am sure nobody knows the details of Coach's contract. These three and a half years must have seemed like the trials of Job. We can only wish Coach our best.

Since NT only has two more home games remaining and in the Coach Dodge Era NT has won three home games..... which one did you like the most....you can't pick all three just one out of the three. I liked the WKU game where our players began to get physical with their players after they would do the "bomb" after a touchdown.
