It is always a possibility to win.......even against LSU. 1. NTSU, if it were not for a bad call at Arkansas in 1968 we would have won. 2. NTSU, ...........................................Texas.........1988 ......................won. 3. NTSU beat Texas Tech 3 times when we were D-1AA ('88) and D-1('97 & '99). 4. Stanford, this year, got beat by Cal-Davis, a D-II school. 5. Troy got an alleged bad call in the 4th quarter against LSU and could have/should have won last year. Who knows????????

i would comment except i am not politically correct.

One guy, who was once in A.F. ROTC then turned "hippie anti-war radical" in 1968, tried to burn down the Administration Building. He threw a malatof (sp) cocktail through one of the windows of the Admin at night.....just happened to be the bathroom. I think it melted some of the plastic toilet seats and left burn marks on the floor. This little overweight fella was caught later that night in his babe's lair close to Fry St.

Gangrene---- How can you be serious about your comment of "contentment" for the long time supporters of the program????? 1. I do not know one poster on this board who would like to stay in the SBC. 2. I do not know one D-1 conference who is taking applications for their respective conference......not unless you do?? Sooooooo, if there are no conference shake ups presently and nobody taking applications then what should UNT do??????? Answer: Do the best we can in the conference that we are in!!! If you call that contentment then that is what it is!!! We all respect everyone's frustration about this year and being in the SBC but let us not get down on the ones who graduated 20+ years ago. Heck, we have more personal history through the decades of experience and frustration to pull from than recent grads who have not been through this before.

Buford J.----- What do you forsee our starting line up to be and the 6th man?

Is it Dickey's offense or Ramon Flanigan's?
eulesseagle replied to KingDL1's topic in Mean Green Football
DD is ULTIMATELY responsible......... However: 1. we dont have a line that can pop open the runners. 2. we dont have a line that can pass protect. 3. we dont have a QB that can pass the ball "down field" without it being a jump ball most of the time. 4. we dont have a strong D-Line like we have had in the past. 5. to me, imho, that does not leave many options. ok, so some of you will say, "more innovative plays." 1. triple option? 2. screen plays? 3. half back passes? 4. run and gun? 5. use no QB but have 4 running backs in the backfield? ok, this is a time for all you Sunday morning QB's to tell me what sort of offensive plays you would run/gun with the team that we have today!!?? just curious. -

El Paso Eagle -- Good points but it is difficult to compare UNT to UTEP. 1. El Paso is, literally, not close to anything and UTEP has a great deal of the entertainment dollars (for the public and students) wrapped up with the University athletic programs. Of course UTEP will have more of an average attendance than UNT even though it has a population of 585,000 people. 2. Mike Price was a Big steal just like Frank Solich (sp) was for (cant remember if it was Ohio or Miami of Ohio) and Haden Fry was to NTSU. 3. UNT has to compete with a metroplex population of about 5 1/2 million people. As far back as the 1960's the UNT student population was pretty much apathetic to UNT sports. I will have to agree with you that the Administration MUST be more PRO-ACTIVE in getting people interested in attending the games. 4. It would be difficult to blame DD for the lack of attendance. I would bet that is not in his job description to do the promotional aspect of attendance. If you want to terminate someone then terminate the UNT promotional department and get someone in there who knows what to do. A group of graduate promotional students could do an excellent job in El Paso but could be Titantic bound in the Metroplex. 5. I would like to see things change too. I would like to see UNT out of the SBC, I would like for us to win more OOC games, I would like to see more attendance at all athletic games, I would like to see a new stadium.....I would like to see the same things as everyone else BUT having immediate "knee-jerk" reactions is not the answer. We saw what happened to all the short term coaches we have had. DD may not be the answer but he has brought us further than most of the other coaches that we have had. He just needs to get over the OOC hump.

Got to agree. 1. You can not get rid of a coach when he has brought 4 straight SBC championshios to UNT in the last 4 years. 2. So what if he ties for 2nd this year?? you still can not fire him. 3. 13 new starters and an offensive line that can not open holes for our RB's. 4. 1 Freshman QB when he "chunks the pumpkin" down field (most of the time) it is up for grabs. 5. No pass protection from the O-Line. 6. Well.....#3, #4 & #5 kinda limits the plays the OC can call. College Football is a business and look what DD has done (yep another rehash) and the way that the BOR will look at it: 1. 4 SBC championships = $$$$ 2. Increased attendance = $$$$ 3. FB success = success in other sports arenas at UNT = $$$$ We have all got to agree to disagree on some issues EXCEPT the issue of what is best for the athletic programs for UNT and how we can move up out of the SBC. Conference Realignments are NOT over but UNT has to position itself in the best possible light for other conferences to seriously offer us a "spot." 1. DD is doing that with 4 SBC championships. 2. JJ is rebuilding the BB program. 3. Women's soccer is ranked. We have to agree that we do not know what happened behind the closed doors of some of the conferences that selected teams with "up-start" programs or those that have won 1 FB game a year for years to get into better conferences than what we are in. We can only imagine & I am not $tarting any rumor$. UNT has always been the "step-child" in the DFW area. That means the BOR/Coaching staffs have to work harder than other schools that have alumus that contribute heavily annually. Let us all not be too hasty to judge what is happening to the FB team this year. Step back, crack open a cool one and look at the big picture of where UNT ATHLETICS are going and how this will be the springboard for better conference realignments.

It sounds like, what some of you are saying, winning OOC games is more important than winning the SBC!!?? You are not satisfied with Plan A: Losing OOC games and winning the SBC. You will not be satisfied with Plan B: Winning OOC games and coming in 2nd, 3rd, 4th in the SBC!! You still want DD to resign but have no legitimate alternative for a replacement. Would you be satisfied with 1 OOC win? Would you be satisfied with 2 OOC wins?? Would you be satisfied with 3 OOC wins??? How about an undefeated season?????? What would you be satisfied with???? Nobody has said anything specific except get rid of DD or RF. Winning the SBC, no matter how we do in OOC play is important because: 1. Believe it or not it is a recruiting tool for better athletes into the "OVERALL" programs (FB, BB, Tennis, Golf, Soccer...etc men/women athletics!!!). 2. Believe it or not it is nice for UNT to pick up that New Orleans Bowl check every year. 3. Except for us, "hardly" nobody remembers what OOC games etc we won or lost the previous year or 2-3-4-5-6 years ago. All that recruits hear is that we have won consecutive SBC championships. Got to agree that: 1. UNT is in the worst D-1 conference in the nation and that many D-1AA teams would like to schedule us for a win. 2. UNT is the cream of the SBC that all SBC teams would like to beat. But, until UNT has an opportunity to move up to a better conference affiliation the goal of ALL UNT sports is to win championships.....

Mean Green winning the SBC this year...
eulesseagle replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
------------DUMB QUESTION------------ OF COURSE IT IS BEST TO WIN THE CONFERENCE. CAN WE??? OF COURSE!!!!!.......WHY NOT BE THE TOP DOG IN THE SBC???? WILL BEING THE BEST IN THE SBC GET US INTO A BETTER CONFERENCE???? -
Agree----------agree-----------agree----------agree-------- Stop with the un named sources...........Rumors.............this ain't junior high!! WE SHOULD ALL JUDGE DD AND THE TEAM'S PERFORMANCE AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND NOT HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEASON. After the LSU game when we have the schedule loaded with SBC schools ONLY we will see how the Team does!!! Some of you people would have gotten rid of FDR, Eisenhower & McArthur in early 1943 with all the losses we incured in favor of a ROTC instructor. Be patient.....I can not believe that we can still win the SBC. What if DD pulls a miricle out of his helmet and wins the SBC for a 5th time???? Do you still continue to talk about a replacement???

I AM MAKING THIS STATEMENT. PERIOD!
eulesseagle replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
GreenGrenadeII & KingDL1 -- We understand your continual posts on this board to gain support to replace DD. There are, I think, about 2 or 3 more of you that continually post to replace DD. 1. Yes, our OOC record is terrible. 2. Yes, DD has taken UNT, who is in the worst D-1 Mid-Major conference to 4 SBC Bowl Games. 3. Yes, UNT has a better team than before DD arrived. 4. Yes, UNT's TOTAL athletic program is becoming more sucessful under RV, DD, JJ and all other athletic coaches. 5. Yes, better athletic facilities have been built and more are on the way. 6. Yes, I would have to stand in line and take a number to implode Fouts Field to build the new stadium. 7. Yes, $220,000/year salary would not get you much for a new coach since DD's salary (who has won 4 straight trips to the New Orleans Bowl) is not the highest in the SBC. 8. Yes, we are playing with a Freshman QB. 9. Yes, we will have a better team next year. 10. Yes, I am tired of all these posts who want to get rid of DD. 11. Yes, we will start to win OOC games. -
I totally agree that we should look for an easier OOC schedule playing at least 1 BCS school, for the $$$$$, 1 D-1AA school and 2 Mid Major schools. I dont think we should load our schedule with schools that use UNT for practice dummies. We have proven that Mid Major schools have a dismal records against BCS schools and only use them for the $$$$$. If we are stuck, for now, in the Dante's Inferno of Mid Majordom then let us take advantage of it by using other schools as our practice dummies???
-
should not have stopped along the side of the road this morning to graze on mushrooms......... UT: 1. 1 BCS ............. Ohio State 25-22 2. 2 Mid Majors...... LaLa 60-3 Rice 51-10 But ........ playing 1 BCS, 2 Mid-Majors and 1 D-1AA sounds like a good OOC for us.

-
UT scheduled for their OOC: 1. 1 BCS 2. 2 Mid-majors 3. 1 D-AA would not be a bad formula for UNT........
-
Other schools in the middle of nowhere: 1. Boise State 2. Wyoming 3. Montana 4. NMSU 5. UTEP 6. Gonzaga (BB) 7. Idaho 8. Nevada 9. Las Vegas 10. Utah

These stats show ALL QB's (freshmen, sophmores, juniors & seniors). How does Meager compare to other FRESHMEN QB's in D-1?? Now this is no comparison but Troy Aikman in his first year with the Cowboys only won one game. I really dont think that anyone can even try to compare Meager, as a freshman QB, to a senior QB at any school. If we try to draw any comparisons it should be Freshman to Freshman QB's and not Freshman to Soph/Jr/Sr.
-
what is the cost????????
-
Eagle 96--- Excellent Post!!!!! goes to show that we may be "last" in the SBC in 5 of 7 categories and "next to last" in 2 of 7 categories but we are....................2-1 in the SBC. the only stat that counts after a game is the score.

I am just worn out by reading all this negativity on this board. Why dont we just focus on the positive the rest of this week. We have brought up, roasted, broasted, deep fried, chicken fried and left out to rot every negative aspect of the first 5 games. CONCLUSION: Nada...nothing....zip....zero....has changed. On the positive side 1. I still support the Mean Green .... win-loose-draw 2. I still like the albino squirrel story. GET POSITIVE FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK......... NO MORE FRICKIN' NEGATIVE POLLS ON DD AND ALL THE "WHAT IF SITUATIONS..." COACH DD GETS PAID TO COACH THE TEAM FOR A PRICE.................................. IF YOU SUNDAY MORNING Q.B'S WANT HIS JOB THEN WHEN IT COMES UP THEN APPLY FOR IT.......GEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZ
