  1. LoveMG-- All I can say is that you are, unfortunately, wrong. I know I have met him, even though I can not remember what he looks like, on the intramural field and I knew some of his buds from class and met a couple of his buds who were in the Sammies back in the late 60's & early 70's. If that does not satisfy you then you can still be suspect. That is your choice. My intellect has been satisfied.
  2. Meangreendork--- The last time teams were afraid of our "D" was during the Rod Rust era when Joe Green was playing. Also when Fry was coach and during parts of the Corkey Nelson era when we were ranked #1 (at times) when we played D-1AA. Just for your comments, who, other than some of the SBC schools were afraid of our "D" during the last 8 years under "Mediocrity Ball?" (I am now using this phrase instead of "DD Ball" because that is what we have...."Mediocrity Ball" on offense and defense.) I supported DD up to about a month ago until I "finally" realized what shape our program really is in. DD has reached the "APEX" of his career at UNT and possibly his future in college football. In the past, Coach Mitchell was a fine man and coach for NTSU and did a great job for what he had, Rust rode the recruiting coat tails of Mitchell's recurits (Joe Green...etc...and his claim to fame, prior to NTSU was recruiting Jim Plunkett for Stanford), I personally like Coach Nelson because he did more with less than any other NTSU/UNT coach we ever had.....we can go on and now we have "Mediocrity Ball" with DD. While others achieved on the football field knowing that we had an excellent chance of "BEATING" teams like Texas, Tennessee or Houston because they came up with the necessary "GAME PLANS", unfortunately, DD does not share that same philosophy. When Mr. Mediocrity explained to everyone that we have "NO" chance against teams like LSU then you are telling the world you have NO CONFIDENCE in yourself, your staff and your ability. You can read other posts by Plumm, Silver, King etc to get a "TRUE" picture where we have been, the history of the our program, the ineptitude of of our past and present coaches and administration and where we need to go and what HAS to be done to get there!! For most of us we have seen the past......we know what we are capable of doing with the RIGHT coach and a POSITIVE coaching philosophy which we DO NOT HAVE with Mr. Mediocrity. I am NO longer satisfied by beating the old Southland Conference schools which now make up most of "Dante's Inferno" (SBC) and you should not be either!!! You should not be satisfied by having other Mid-Major programs beating us by 50+ points (and keeping the score down by playing everyone including their water boy), you should not be satisfied by being out recruited by D-1AA schools in the state of Texas and in "Area 51" (top 50 recruits in the DFW area). If you are "JUST" satisfied with having some mediocre football program that just fields a team for enjoyment then we can switch from D-1A to a conference that plays in the same league as Tarelton, Austin College, Sul Ross etc or field a non-scholarship team. For me, like most of you, my attitude is if we are going to field a team I want a coach that exemplifies a POSITIVE ATTITUDE, GOES AFTER THE BEST RECRUITS IN/OUT OF STATE, KNOWS THAT WHEN THE TEAM HITS THE FIELD HE HAS AN EXCELLENT CHANCE OF WINNING...NO MATTER WHO THE OTHER TEAM IS AND IS COMPLIMENTARY TO THE PEOPLE WHO COME OUT TO SUPPORT THE TEAM.
  3. SUMG- after e-mailing 125th gang he is for real.....if any of you doubt the credibility of his story then you are wrong. if anybody else may have any doubts who this guy is ..... well dont!! that is all i am going to say.
  4. 125th Gang and SUMG- I can end your argument now by asking 125th street gang a questions to verify he is not the spookyman you claim he is, SUMG.....and it will be a simple: 125th Street Gang: If you played on the P.E. Club softball team in 1968-1969 (fast pitch) we played on the same team. Question: How many fingers did our pitcher have on his pictching hand???????
  5. KingDL1 et. al.--- You are 120% correct in stating that I have been influenced by the "Dark Side." As I stated earlier in this thread the last straw was seeing NO H.S. perspective recruit in the State 100 or "Area 51" (Area 51: an anomoly in the DFW area that is a complete recruiting mystery for DD/RF and there minions) consider UNT!!! Not only this year but now for the last couple of three years. There has been NO building from SBC championship success by this current FB staff by landing anything other than 2-star recruits who are, for the most part "Honorable Mention"!!!! The same goes with the JUCO's!!! If everyone remembers there were always those "past" H.S. recruits in the state 100 or "Area 51" that considered UNT........NO MORE........I submit-----WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?????????? Why do these recuits REJECT UNT now in favor of other Mid-Major, in/out of state programs, and would much rather go to D-1AA schools instead of UNT??????????????? GEO is correct when he says what is so secretive about our recruits that DD does not want to disclose??? It would be easier for DD to publically admit that he and his staff are incapable of recruiting anything other than "Honorable Mention" recruits and those with past physical malodies that prevented them from going to another Mid-Major or BCS school. DD then proudly admits that these are "great finds" that will enhance our program. I am tired of schools like LaTech, Tulsa and K-State play everyone on their roster to keep the score down to 50+ points. While other programs are getting OCs to develop "HIGH POWERED" & "INNOVATIVE" offenses (and now Troy has hired an OC for a "high octane" offense) DD and RF are stuck in "YESTERYEAR." FB technology has "OUTPACED" DD and his staff and it appears that there is "NO" help in sight. While other programs "fire" their OC's for non-productivity DD has kept RF from the begining. All we have had since 1998 is "Mediocrity Ball." It is NO LONGER "DD BALL" IT IS NOW " MEDIOCRITY BALL." To keep DD he needs to win 2 OOC games, run the table on the belt and win the NO Bowl against a 4th place CUSA team. Do I seriously think that will happen.......NO!!! New Definitions that EVERYONE should get used to reading: 1. "MEDIOCRITY BALL"- replaces DD Ball because he has reached his apex of success at UNT. 2. "AREA 51"- replaces the DFW area recruits (and possibly Houston/Austin-San Antonio) because it is an anomoly or black hole that RF is unfamilar with. 3. "HONORABLE MENTION"- these are DD's All-State 4-star players. I will stop here because I know some of you have other DEFINITIONS that you want to share. Yes, I have been overtaken by the "Dark Side" and damn proud of it!!
  6. My ultimate frustration is, again, DD getting out recruited in Texas by other Mid-Major programs (in and out of state) and D-1AA (in state) programs. One only has to look and remember the last two or three years of top 100 state and "Area 51" prospects. How many did we land??? Whose "ULTIMATE" responsibility is it to recruit???? Ans: the football staff!!!! Granted DD, the first four years at UNT were dismal, with a losing record, but his last four he has eaked out a winning record. The only problem is that in his tenure at UNT he recruits "JUST WELL" enough to be competitive in "DANTE'S INFERNO" of the SBC!!! DD, IMHO, is complacently content with his current surroundings and again because I am not a psychologist or pretend to be one must think he has reached the apex of his career, which is mediocrity. We have all coined the phrase, "DD Ball" for a very good reason!!!! Lack of imagination!! Has it taken his entire tenure at UNT, minus the last 5 games, to realize that defensive teams are stacking 8-9 men on the line to stop him!!! When will he realize that you can not have a philosophy of, "keeping a game close to the 4th Quarter so we have a chance to win" is NUTS!!! UNT deserves a coach that has a philosophy of, "We are here to kick your butts and the further ahead we are the better off we are." Some of my frustration is the sucess that JJ has had recruiting in BB!! Look what he started with and what he has now and what will be coming in next year!!! This is almost like comparing a YUGO (for those of you who do not remember what a YUGO was....it was one of the world's most crappiest cars off the assembly line from communitst Yugoslavia back in the late 60's or early 70's.) to......name a luxury car. Yea, I supported DD and had the glimmer of hope that his SBC success would give us recruiting dividends, especially in the state of Texas and some of the fringe states. NOW, we have other Mid-Majors from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Ohio, Florida, Michigan and the rest come into DD and RF's own "BACK YARD" and recruit our talent base because they know DD, et. al., are not recruiting them. My question is WHY??? Are our own coaches intimidated by other recruiters???? Do our coaches know how to "SELL" our program??? EVIDENTLY NOT!!!!! We will again see plenty of 2 star(2nd team all district) and possibly a couple of 3 star players sign up with more JC players in this class!!!! WHY??? We will hear the same old diatribe from DD about how great this class was. I remember that Matt Simon said after his first or second recruiting class, "This class of recruits are just as good as ALABAMA." I have always enjoyed NTSU/UNT sports but getting humiliated by Tulsa, LaTech and K-State by them keeping the score down to 50+ is tough to swallow when WE know that we are better than that!!! I see a lethargic staff that settles for mediocrity for success. I see a lethargic staff that does not know how to sell our FB program with our modern facilities to HS recruits. I see a lethargic staff that lets them get out recruited by D-1AA programs in Area 51!! After looking at today's FW Startlegram and seeing NO recruit considering/commiting to UNT and others selecting/considering NMSU, a ZERO WIN TEAM--but with a dynamic coach......that was the last straw!!! The only way I would even consider keeping DD would be for him to win 2 OOC games, run the table on the SBC and win the NO bowl against a 4th place CUSA team!!
  7. Let and may the "force" be with the Admin. on this issue ASAP next year. Do I see DD, et al., winning 2 OOC games and the SBC, like I stated about a month ago when I set down my personal perameters???? NO!! 1. Can UNT beat Texas?? NO 2. Can UNT beat LaTech? NO 3. Can UNT beat SMU??? I hope so 4. Can UNT beat Tulsa?? NO 5. Can UNT run the belt??I hope so 6. Can UNT afford another year of DD and an inept staff that gets out recruited in Texas and Area 51 by D-1AA schools and other Mid-Majors (particularly from out of state)??? NO 7. Can I change my mind when the handwriting is on the wall?? YES 8. Can I expect others to change their minds on this issue?? YES
  8. yes------ i have been overtaken by the "force."
  9. After looking at the Fort Worth Startlegram today and not seeing any recruit, in any of the sections of the Nation's 100, State 100 and Area 51's top players, consider UNT I was again PO'ed!! I expect to see the BCS schools get the majority of the top players ..... BUT when you have kids signing and considering Akron, NMSU, SFA, Central Mich., Central Florida..........GIVE ME A BREAK!!! 1. I thought part of coaching is RECRUITING!!! RF maybe a good family man, may draw up some good plays but he CAN NOT RECRUIT AREA 51!! I call it Area 51 because it is a mystery to RF!! 2. If we are getting out recruited by D-1AA and Mid Major schools from Michigan, Florida, Ohio etc then immediate changes have to be made how and who(m) does the recruiting. If RF is not up to the task then UNT needs to find some "slick willie" who can get these athletes to come to UNT. 3. If DD and his staff can not recruit the State of Texas, anymore, and we see a preponderance of JC players entering the program we know the "End is Near." 4. If DD can not win just two of the OOC games next year then, IMHO, we need to get another coach and a staff that can recruit and build UNT into a respectable program that is not in the "Dante's Inferno" of the SBC and into an era of one of the top Mid-Major programs in the country.
  10. Arkstfan-- It is evident that you have not been to a UNT bb game and this is nothing personal. 1. JJ has done an excellent job recruiting after he has took the reins of the "failing" program from Coach Trilli. One comment that Coach Trilli said that really is memorable is and I paraphrase: You know you are getting better when you are losing in the single digits from the previous year and the next year you split the close ones and the following year you are winning the close ones. UNT has played a couple of tough teams close and in my estimate we could have easily won. Those games were Texas A&M and Houston. I did not see the A&M game but saw us play against Houston. We matched up well against Houston and could have easily won the game if it were not for the last 4 min. of the game when we failed to score. 2. IMHO, for what that is worth, UNT should be in contention for the SBC championship in BB this year. If we do not win it this year JJ has a "TREMENDOUS" recruiting class coming in next year!!! There are a couple of top tier JC players and a transfer from Arizona or AZ.State who will "dominate" the inside game. 3. As far as the FB program......we will have to see the recruits play before giving any judgement. 4. As far as us getting a new stadium......?????????
  11. Disagree with all of you!! 1. Coach Penders knew that there would not be anyone in Houston if they played in Houston and that is why he moved the game to UNT to cohabitate with the Fort Worth Bowl. (smart move). 2. UNT had the chance to win the game until they could not make a basket during the last 4 minutes of the game. 3. IMHO, Houston made some "incredible pull 'em out of your as_ shots" throughout the game. 4. Houston was 50% from behind the arch. 5. The Houston crowd that was next to me was saying that they could not believe a "Sun Belt" team was that good and it would devistate their program if a "Sun Belt" team beat them. I reminded them of South Alabama and they laughed. 6. If UNT played UH 10 times we would win at least 1/2 of the games. I thought we matched up really well player for player. 7. JJ has the "best" team that he has had since he has been here!! The amount of steals that this team has game after game is amazing!! This teams plays with tenacity throughout the entire game. *****For those of you complaining about our attendance: 1. IT'S DECEMBER 23RD.....ALL THE STUDENTS ARE AT HOME WITH THEIR FAMILIES INCLUDING THE CHEERLEADERS AND ALL BUT 5 OF THE DANCERS. 2. THE ATYPICAL UNT ALUM CROWD "SILENTLY" SHOWED UP AND WAS REMINDED BY THE UofH CROWD WHAT THE "OLD PIT" USED TO BE LIKE. 3. MERRY CHRISTmas.
  12. Mike/Sig-- Your posts were entertaining for a while (kinda like Elton & David). Both of you may want to consider just finding a private parking lot and bitc_ - slapping each other or just do PRIVATE IM's to each other. Merry Christmas. Keep on the topic of Cheerleading and the Dancers.
  13. Looks like a bogus post to me.
  14. Personally, I like the dancers.....much prettier, more entertaining, out on the floor just as much as the cheerleaders and gets my old heart pumpin'. The only difference is that: 1. No male dancers (that's good). 2. No dangerous flips. 3. More dancers. 4. More costumes. 5. Excellent routines.
  15. My point is that if we can not get the "big/fast/smash-mouth" linemen and can only get, what appears to be "2-star" players then it is imperative that the coaching staff teach finese' and technique (basics) to keep the linemen from all the holding calls because they can not pass block or open holes for the runners. Last year we witnessed poor coaching techniques that led to all the above problems.
  16. I do not want to sound pesimistic but "remember" last year our OL could not open the holes, pass protect, could not remember the snap counts and had too many holding penalties. You can have size and no talent!! Back in the late 70's and early 80's Permian always had undersized linemen but the coaching staff stressed "fundamentals" and the undersized linemen made up for their weight defiencies with "talent." FB is not always "smash-mouth." IMHO, this year, our coaching staff needs to stress "fundamentals" more than ever. Last year was too frustrating on: 1. OL not being able to pass block 2. OL not being able to open the holes 3. OL having too many penalties We have the talent on the OL but no discipline/fundamentals.
  17. Eagle 1855-- I don't know if DD has contacted them but in the 8-years going on 9 that DD has been here how many BCS school transfers has he gotten to play for UNT??? IMHO there would be some mention, somewhere, from someone that these kids were contacted by some college/university to play for them. The reason why some kids, who play at mid majors instead of bcs schools is that they were contacted "early-on" by someone and they kept "courting" them. "It's the attention they receive that sways their attention. While DD and his staff are comfortably sitting in their offices some other "hungry" coach who wants to get the most out of his program are stealing these kids from us. My point is, "have you heard through the mean green board/other boards/scoop boards, harry, etc etc etc....that these athletes have been contacted by us???" or is this information secret??
  18. I hate to sound like a broken record but: 1. Why doesn't DD ACTIVELY go after all the BCS kids that are wanting to transfer??He may not get every one...but some of them would help. So what if they have to sit out a year....not many athletes/students graduate in 4 years anyway. 2. DD has the scholarships to give!!!!! 3. UNT needs to get a reputation, similar to Okie State (BB), that we will take the transfers!!!! 4. I feel like he is slapping us in the face when he lets these players go without even (percieved) trying to PRO-ACTIVELY get these players.
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/boxscore?gameId=253530249
  20. Seems to work for JJ.....just look at what he is bringing in from Arkansas and Arizona State!!!.....works for Okie State too....they thrive on transfers!! DD needs to go after any "class" D-1A transfer he can get his hands on....especially NOW!! To ignore this talent is slapping us in the face. I do not believe that DD used all his scholarships last year or the year before. If UNT could become a repository for some of this BCS talent that wants more playing time then UNT has improved its chances on the OOC circuit. If DD refuses to consider ACTIVELY pursuing this talent then RV then, as the Romans used to say, "I have crossed the Rubicon and the die has been cast."
  21. probably has another 200-500k in endorsements, 30-50k+ in allowances, a memberships in some country club and 50k+ in speaking gigs like some of the other BCS coaches. not a bad deal.
  22. fake lonnie-- you have a moot post that has been rehashed um-teen times.... i take this time to urge everyone NOT to respond to this blantently "trite" attempt for viewer response. fake lonnie you can now get back to watching jerry springer and all his guests from "springerville usa." if i were santa i would give you a lump of coal.
  23. UNT has always been plagued with the "lack" of big donors. With that being said: 1. What has the university done to "ACTIVELY" go out and capture the money?? **Nobody in their right mind can honestly state that a "weak beg-a-thon" phone campaign, ever so often, gets the major donations we need. **Nobody can say the "mailers" do that good!! **I read about the acquitions that UNT makes on their building projects which is good BUT NEVER hear about ANY major campaigns to raise the money we NEED for a STADIUM project!!!! To me that is egregious!!! It is the complacent UNT administration/BOR slapping every UNT supporter in the face. If there was REALLY A MAJOR FUNDRAISING STADIUM PROJECT, at least, everyone in TEXAS would know about it!!!! Has anyone heard of such an animal????? All we hear about is the same chewed on carrot from the admin., "we have not found a major donor." **OK ADMIN, GET OFF YOUR FUNDRAISING 101 BUTTS and do something. I can not remember the name of the NTSU president in 1970 who was a super fundraiser and got many of the projects started on campus. Now he was PRO-ACTIVE. We got a bunch of people who are ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL and are going to be responsible for the athletic program "CRASH - BURN AND DIE" into the Dante's Inferno of the SBC (or worse).
  24. Are you saying the we are recruiting Devine????
  25. Rudy-- check USA Today...Sports....they have the rankings
