PlummMeanGreen annoying posts now a federal crime!

Points well taken by all.... Are we satisfied with having a mediocure program, under DD, that has yet to achieve .500 ball?? Ok you say, along with RV, we have won 4 SBC championships and won one N.O. Bowl out of 4 (for UNT and 1/5 for the SBC against the #4 team of CUSA). Not too long ago we, as the SBC, were all in same conference when we were all D-1AA, the Southland Conference. The current SBC in the "Phoenix" of the SLC of the 1980's and 1990s!!! ALL of the current SBC school are in the "Bottom 100" of D-1A rankings. Are you satisfied with being ranked 107 out of 117 of D-1A FB??? I hope you do not say yes I am satisfied knowing that I am better than 10 of 117 programs in the country. If you say yes then go to the head of the "Mediocure Class." Many of us have seen what a dynamic coach can do to a program. Coach Fry.....need I say more!! Went into Tennessee and beat them. Tennessee told Coach Fry that they were not going to play the next year. Tennessee cancelled the contract. Coach Fry resurrected our program and never complained about the financial resources!! Coach Nelson....always had a game plan to win......never got blown out.......almost beat UT two times.....if it were not for a blantently bad out of the endzone by 5 yard last desperation pass that was in favor of UT...then WE WON, yes, as a D-1AA school beating Texas. I was there......Longhorn fans were booing that call and shaking the hands of those who had N.T shirts on. My major concern is we do not have that same type of DYNAMIC individual who can RECRUIT and SELL our PROGRAM to high schoolers and JC athletes. This will be DD's 9th Year at UNT and we are ranked in the Bottom 100 even after winning 4 SBC championships against the old D-1AA Southland Conference alignment. What is the matter with this picture????????? We do not even come close to competing with other Mid-Major Programs such as LaTech or Tulsa. Even during the Fry and Nelson years when we played "MAJOR" talent, if we lost it was only by a handfull of points, not 63, not 51, not 52. They never went into a game telling everyone, "we do not have a chance." If you are satisfied with being in the Bottom 100 then post it now so everyone can read....."Yes, I am satisfied with being #107 out of 117." If you want to effect change then do what some of us are doing and post your expectations for this year......mine are: Win 2 OOC games, win the SBC and beat the #4 CUSA team in the N.O. Bowl. If these realistic goals are not achieved by the head coach then the BOR should give DD his severance package and tell the man thank you for trying for 9 years but we are still below .500 under your "watch." If you refuse to post your expectations and results then you have to take what the AD and BOR gives you and be satisfied. There are some who are not affraid to post what our expectations are and defining what the end result is. There are others who will take whatever is given them and only follow. Ted Turner once said, "Lead, follow or get out of the way." Which one are you, UNT alums?? -
I am glad to see everyone "Stating" YOUR expectations for this year's season in FB. I was wondering with me posting my expectations over the last few months: Win 2 OOC games, Win the SBC and beat the #4 CUSA team, when most of you would "follow suit" and "cross the line in the sand" instead of just giving "lip service in some ambigous way (pro/con)." I do not care if we win 2/4 OOC games by 1 point and lose the other 2 by 30,40 or 50.....just win 2 OOC games. It is important in any program to know what each and eveyone of you SPECIFICALLY EXPECT of our program leaders.....if it be in FB, BB, Soccer...etc.. Now, IMHO, I hope that DD carries through with his promise to surprise some teams to kick their AS_!! The way the board is divided it will the oposition's AS_ or DD's AS_!! IMHO, again, I think we will know the direction of the FB program by the end of September 2006. We will certainly know where it is headed by Mid December. Let us all live in reality and not get too enchanted by what may be said of our new recruits when they are presented to us starting at noon on Feb. 1. We all have to remember what Matt Simon told us once. " This recruiting class is just as good as Alabamas." We will "not" know what our new guys can do until they perform in the class and on the field. I wish everyone of our new recruits the best of luck, hard hitting and the best of health.

UNTGirl--- Everyone should have some sort of defined expectations for any sport and their coaches. I have defined what mine are. Win 2 OOC games, run the belt and beat the #4 CUSA team in the N.O. Bowl. If someone else has expectations for the team to win 2nd place in the SBC and lose 3 of 4 games by 21 pts then those are your expectations, not mine. UNTGirl has "laid down her gauntlet" to state her position on what she thinks is acceptable for the FB program. I appreciate her candor and honesty. Like everyone I want to see the FB program along with all the other sports programs become, not only the best in the SBC, but have national prominance. The only way to do that is to state what our expectations are!! That is not being unrealistic to any poster or anyone in the athletic/coaching staff.
-
PMG bashers--- You have got to agree that PMG has some good points in furthering the cause of a better FB program at UNT, like all of us......he just gets emotional about our circumstances like I and some of you do. However.....it comes down to, what do WE expect of our coaches a) in public (radio/newspaper), during the game so we can adjust moves/countermoves, c) what are our expectations in the SBC (are we JUST satisfied with winning the SBC and no OOC games or are we satisfied with an SBC championship and winning 1/2 of our OOC games --- more or less?). There has to be some happy "gathering" point to all this madness. Since no one else has stated their expectations to keep Coach Dickey, here are mine again: win 2 OOC games, win the SBC and beat the #4 CUSA team in the N.O. Bowl. To me that is realistic. Coming in 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the SBC and getting humiliated by having teams hang 52 or more points on us is unacceptable, IMHO. Last year may have been an anomoly because of the failure to recruit the players we need and not having the coaching staff prepare for Byerly (sp) not making the grades and not getting a JC QB. Do you think that is why our coaching staff is going after more QB's this year?? I Do because they did not prepare for the reality of the situation last year. Since none of you have put down what YOUR expectations are for a successful program, including RV, I would like for some of you to put your expectations on the line and post them!!! You have mine. What are yours??? Evidently what RV was stating, on his expectations, was that he is satisfied with winning the SBC....he did not mention anything about OOC games. Ambiguity is nice but only causes disention because nothing specific is stated. This is the time to get specific on your expectations on what is acceptable/unacceptable for the the success of "OUR" program. Medical Marijuanna would not be bad for some of the posters but hookers????

Rick V-- I really appreciate your comments on the state of the UNT program. Most of our concerns boil down to how do you measure the success of the program?? That is all of our concerns given in a plethora of different ways by the numerous comments by all those who post on this forum. You addressed many of the concerns that we have except, "HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS OF ANY PROGRAM PARTICULARILY FOOTBALL." I will be the first to admit that I have supported Coach Dickey for the last 8 years up to the end of this year but have least stated my "parameters" of success, win 2 OOC games, win the SBC and win the N.O. Bowl against the #4 CUSA team. RV, in all sincerity, if your parameters are "just" to win the SBC only and not care what happens against our OOC opponents and what happens in the N.O. Bowl then I, like the rest of us, can accept your convictions. The current coaching staff that you have in place I am thrilled to have them and am enjoying the benefits of their current success however I pray that you have addressed some of the situations that occured over the last 2 years concerning: 1. Coach Dickey explaining to the team and fans that we can not win some games. To us that is a defeatist attitude and can not be tolerated. 2. Coach Flannigan overtly verbally confronting an alum in the stands because of comment of, "you are being out coached." I, as just one alum, am just concerned over your philosophy and that is what are your parameters of success for coaches?

DMN Women's soccer coach signs 3 yr extension
eulesseagle replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Athletics
I think you answered your own question. It is the ability to "RECRUIT." Some coaches have the ability to "SELL" our program "BETTER" than others. Coach Hedlund has the CAN DO ability!! DD, IMHO, does not have that same sales ability and has reached the APEX of his head coaching career at UNT with a less than stellar ability to prove that he and his staff can recruit. JJ, IMHO, in his first stint as a head coach, is recruiting well and I think we are on the cusp of some some runs at the NCAA tournament in BB. -
I am as disgusted as most of us about the current state of our FB program. I could support DD, as the rest of you, if DD could win. Winning means being able to RECRUIT!!! DD and his staff have proved to all of us that he can not recruit, period. For example, look at the state of the NTSU FB program when Coach Fry took over. The program was about ready to give up the ghost. Coach Fry demonstated to all of us what innovation, positive attitude with the university and media and being able to recruit can do for a program. This is something that DD has not been able to do except when had the assistant coach who could recruit. DD is satisfied with mediocrity and hires mediocrity in his coaching staff. The proof is in the "quality" of recruits that we attract and sign. While other programs get rid of the coaches who can not coach or recruit DD keeps his. We have assistant coaches that do not get fired but leave for better programs. Mediocrity breads mediocrity. Perhaps, psychologically, DD does not want to hire individuals who have more talent than himself and that is the problem, IMHO. Sure, we get a few jewels for players but overall are we satisfied with the last several recruiting classes?? My answer is NO!! Why?? Because our coaching staff can not get anything better than 2 Star recruits, 2nd team all conference and honorable mention JC. This is due to the mediocure recruiting talent of our coaching staff. What else could it be???? DD and his mediocure coaching staff are being "OUT RECRUITED" by all Mid-Major programs and D-1AA programs in this area. Is anyone satisfied with that?? I am not!!! I could support DD Ball if he could recruit and win but he can not. IMHO, again, DD has reached the APEX of his head coaching career. He has one more year at UNT and there is not a dog gone thing that anyone can do about it except to support the team by filling the stands next year. If DD can win 2 OOC games, run the belt and beat the #4 CUSA team in the N.O. Bowl in 2006 then I could support DD again. Do I really think that this will happen??? He_L NO!!! What OOC games do you really think we can win next year??? Texas, SMU, LaTech or Tulsa!! We know what LT and Tulsa did to us. The National Champs will hang a big-un on us and I am affraid that SMU has a much improved team and will beat us......I really hope that if we win only one game this year it will be against SMU. Some of you live in a fanacy world about DD but take a walk in reality today and think about what is really happening. Why are we being out recruited by other Mid-Majors and other D-1AA programs and why the majority of our recruits are 2-Star and honorable mention HS and JC prospects?? Also think about why ESPN, from a previous post, list UNT with the rest of the SBC (Dante's Inferno) in the Bottom 100 of D-1A FB programs. What is the matter with this picture??? WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THIS PICTURE????
-
Is being in the Bottom 19 with the rest of the SBC job security for DD?? Winning 2 OOC games may get us high as 80 (maybe).

FB 1. Fry (most innovative) 2. Nelson (did more with less than anyone) 3. Rusk (had just great talent from Mitchell-but couldn't recruit) 4. DD (has rebuilt the program but now needs to go further) BB 1. Spika (he will always be #1 in my book...got me hooked on BB) 2. Blakely (run and gun..wow) 3. JJ (we are getting that intensity back again) 4. Pistol Pete Jankovich (just kidding about the pistol pete part...only ncaa appearance)

Cooley-- You are correct when you say that I speak from emotion when I talk about UNT athletics. The reasons are obvious. 1. for most of us we have seen the rise - fall - rise - fall - rise - fall of NTSU/ UNT athletics for over 40 years. We have seen the admin get rid of some excellent coaches and we have seen the administration keep some really poor performing coaches. Looking back it still makes no sense to me. 2. we have seen NTSU/UNT change athletic conference: MVC, Indep, Southland, BWC and SBC. Going to D-1AA, IMHO, was the worst move that the admin could have possibly done and personally we have not recovered jumping back to D-1A. 3. the geo-political climate of the NCAA has changed college athletics during the last 20 years or so. The NCAA favors the bigger conferences and have aligned them into the BCS. This stigmatizes the smaller D-1A schools into Mid-Majors. Since there is no playoff system for D-1A football the BCS gets most of the bowl slots and conferences like the SBC get one or two. In basketball the SBC gets one slot and get to be cannon fodder for the highest seeded team in the bracket. 4. Because of this current situation at UNT being in the worst D-1A FB conference and a similarly weak BB conference - in rankings- we are in Dante's Inferno. 5. When I was at the UNT/Houston BB game the Houston fans were yelling, "we cant let NT beat us they are in the SunBelt Conference. 6. Until UNT moves up to another conference (WAC or CUSA) then we are litterally stuck in the "weakest" and "less respected" conference in D-1 athletics. We know it, the coaches know it and coaches who we recruit against know it. I personally think this hampers our recruiting efforts. For example, last year DD was trying to get a JUCO QB and we actually had the inside track on this kid and Nebraska needed a QB. UNT or Nebraska. 7. I think kids in HS know the pecking order of conferences and teams. 8. Because of all the above reasons IMHO JJ, in the situation that he is in, has done an excellent job with the team and I have seen improvement and quality of his players. I enjoy the intensity that the team plays with this year and have certainly enjoyed all the steals and the tenacity that this happens. As far as the comments that the guys are playing "street ball"..... i would imagine to some degree but it is much more organized this year. 9. I just do not like to listen to people begin to say that since JJ or anyone else has not progressed the team far enough we may want to change the coach. IMHO, again, there has been a great deal of improvement with the team and depth....this is my opionion!! I do not think it is time for a change or even put down my parameters to keep JJ. 10. The overall problem is the conference we are in and not the coaching staff in BB......FB, I think is a different set of circumstance which I do not want to get into. 11. Cooley, If you think I am still emotional, well, I am and so should everyone else about the athletic program and the school. 12. Until another realignment comes along that UNT can take advantage of then we just have to struggle in the SBC and for all what it gives us like playing the #4 CUSA team in the NO Bowl and one seed in the NCAA BB.... playing the highest seed team in the region. 13. It if for these reasons why i feel frustrated about how some posters feel about how easy it may be to go out and get a "top quality" coach to turn the program around for the money that UNT has to pay. Unless Bobby Knight quits TT and decides he would like to coach UNT for free that is how we will get a top coach either in BB or FB. All of you will have to agree that we lucked out when we landed Coach Fry at NTSU. 14. Cooley, I hope this little explanation gives you an idea where I am coming from and if i peeeeeved you off a little then I appologize....that is not my intention. There are too many posters who have never gone to the games but post negativity on the board. Go up to JJ during the next couple of games, you will find him looking down from the mid section where his office is looking at the crowds.....go up to him and tell him how much you appreciate what he is doing. I knows he enjoys that.
-
SUMG- I appreciate you taking up for Cooley. However, sounds as though there is a "lynch mob" forming to start bashing JJ. In my opionion JJ is turning the team around. In your, obvious, opionion he is not and you are getting the posse ready. You are right with me supporting DD and to date am the only one to set down parameters to keep him. These are: win 2 OOC games, run the belt and beat the #4 CUSA team in the NO Bowl. I have not seen any of yours!! I want to remind you again what conference UNT is in: SUN BELT You can "blow" all you want on how you think how easy it is to break the top 25 in BB and it may be in some other conference but UNT is a mid major in the SUN BELT!!!! Can it be done?? I think if anyone can do it JJ can. However, you want to play musical coaches, again. JJ, like Jankovich before, is doing the best he can with the resources he has and in the conference we are in. Right now 8-5 looks pretty darn good. We could have easily been 11-2 except for the close calls we had against A&M, Houston and New Orleans. These were extremely close games and not like the "BLOW OUTS" that you want to try to compare JJ and his team with DD and his OOC loses of over 50 points. There is no comparison. If you want to line up behind Cooley because he has BB knowledge then that is your line in the sand. It would be more prudent for you to start supporting JJ and the team and realize what our "REAL" current situation is: SUN BELT CONFERENCE, MID MAJOR, NO CURRENT OPENINGS AVAILABLE IN WAC, CUSA, BIG 12 ETC. I do not mind supporting any coach that I think is doing the best he/she is doing under the situation that is placed upon them by this university. Yep, I supported DD and am still glad that I did. However, it is my opionion that I believe that DD has reached the apex of his college coaching career. I DO NOT think that of JJ. Look at the talent base of players he has. He has more depth, #3 in the nation in steals, this team has a little more intensity and plays like it. I see a lot of positive aspects of this years team than other teams. JJ has to fight the stigma of playing in the SBC, the Dante's Inferno, of D-1 college sports. SUMG, if you want to start pursuading your minions to start "bashing" JJ then that is your business.
-
Lifer-- We are so old when we squat, you are right, it aint coachin' basketball but it is coachin' a big 'un. My point is: JJ is a great coach, makes the necessary adjustments throughout the game and has a "game plan" to win. You can tell by the intensity that these kids play and being #3 in the nation in steals that JJ has a plan and has the guys are ready to play when they hit the "hardwood." We are at that point and I am going to paraphrase Vic Trilli when he said, " you know your team is improving when your not getting beat by double digits anymore and your are only getting beat by single digits. You know your team is getting better when you are winning the close ones you were losing last year. You know you are getting better when you win the ones you are suppose to win and win all the close ones."
-
Lifer- I am going to have to disagree with you. IMHO, JJ does a great job adjusting the game by how it is being played. He adjusts offensively and defensively. He squats by the sideline controlling the game. EagleD- Go to the game and your questions will be answered and if you can not make it because you live in a place far far away tune in via internet. It is "way" evident you have not listened to or attended a game either, like Cooley. When Texas Tech got Coach Knight everyone thought National Champs. Tech, as you all know is in a much better conference, has a better fan base going to their games (home/away), should have better recuiting than most Major conferences and definitely mid major conferences but no national championships and they have not come close. I have seen some execelent coaches come and go over the years at NTSU and UNT. Spika (one of my all time favorites), Blakely(another of one of my all time favorites), Jankovich (I really liked him and did well for what UNT gave him) and I like JJ and he is doing a great job for what UNT is currently giving him (a crappy conference). For those of you who want to degrade UNT BB but have NEVER been to a game then DO NOT POST HERE!!!!!!
-
ding ding ding ding ding ding ding we are in the SBC (Dante's Inferno of conferences)---we are still a Mid Major!! JJ lost to A&M by 2 (we had a chance to win it) JJ lost to Houston after we went blank for the last 4 min. JJ lost to N.O. by 3 but the team came out a little flat. IMHO JJ is one of the best finds we have had in a long time and a great recruiter for the Dante's Inferno Conference. Anyone who has been going to the games can tell what an improved team we have. Appears that Cooley has not been to any games by the way he started the post. Shame on you for such a critical run down of the players if you have never seen them play. IMHO, again, I think JJ has a legitimate shot at winning the SBC, this year and winning the SBC tournament. I think our team is that good and if we can keep the intensity up. IMHO, again, with the Arizona transfer that will start next year he looks awsom. for all of you who want to fire coaches after a couple of years at UNT get a grip. We are in the SBC a lowly mid major program. Until we get out of Dante's Inferno then we are all going to have to live with what we get. Quit this JJ bashing.....he does not deserve it!!!

MeanMag-- I believe (not for certain: becuase I know someone will know) that Mr. Mediocrity hired his "new" Defensive Coordinator from ARMY. ARMY???? Don't we see ARMY football, consistantly, in the "Bottom 10" of ESPN's coveted surveys??? This is another glaring example that Mr. Mediocrity wants another mediocre or sub-mediocre coach to take and keep OUR FB program at a mediocre level. Dang, there had to be better qualified DC's out there at the time. Is Mr. Mediocrity subconsciously parinoid that hiring a quality coach would jepordize his job???? My question is, "if UNT has a coach refusing to hire coaching talent greater than his abilities then is not our current program really in Dante's Inferno??" The last 8 years have produced a 7-38 OOC record. Yea, we have won the conference championship 4 years in a row and get the honor to play a 4th place CUSA team that is 4-1 against our conference (and with Troy getting beat 2 years ago the SBC is 1-5 in bowl games). There is now a D-1AA conference that is ranked higher than the SBC. The SBC is the worst D-1A conference in the nation and ranks "LOWER" than the best D-1AA conference in America. Just like you and hopefully more CONVERTS in 2006 we MUST recognize, NOW what is happening in front of us NOW with the state of our FB program!!! 1. Granted Mr. Mediocrity rebuilt our program to 8 and 9 wins a few years ago BUT that success is waining fast. 2. Our talent level of recruits, IMHO, is sub-par compared to other similar universities...."we get out recruited at all levels." 3. Why can not our coaches recruit 3 or 4 star talent and JUCO All-Americans?? 4. Our talent level of coaches to be innovative and adjust when needed and during games is sub-par..."we get out coached at all levels." I have laid down my parameters to keep Mr. Mediocrity: 2 OOC wins, run the Belt and win against a 4th place CUSA team in the NO Bowl. Will he do it???? Ans: ??? but probably not!! Unfortunately, Mr. Mediocrity has reached the APEX of his football career at UNT. Like other posters have stated the RED FLAGS have been waiving about our program: 1. Mr. Mediocrity has had "NO" other "front line" coaching offers since being at UNT. What does that tell you about our 4 SBC championships and 7-38 OOC wins. 2. RF: same as #1....he put in for the HC for Buffalo (always in ESPN's Bottom 10 list) and was not considered 3. Coach DeLoach "jumping off" a sinking ship. Evidently he knew you can not build a program out of mediocure coaching talent. 4. Inability to recruit....yea, Mr. Mediocrity inherited some talent and recruited a couple of great players but, "even a blind hog can find an acorn sometimes." Finding and pointing to a few players that have made it into the NFL from UNT during Mr. Mediocrities tenure is great and I am glad that these men made it to the NFL. My point is, OVERALL, our talent level is slowly fading away, and away, and away, and away. 5. Coaches that berate their fan support at the games and on the radio. 6. Coaches that have a "DEFEATIST ATTITUDE." My concern is that if we have another 2-9 or 3-8 year HOW LONG IS IT GOING TO TAKE ANOTHER COACH AND ANOTHER COACHING STAFF TO REBUILD THIS PROGRAM?? The type of coach we get will be dependent on the type of money that our Admin deems appropriate. Probably not much. Do I care if a coach has prior bagage?? No!!! Who will be available, possibly, next year??? Ans: ???? nobody knows BUT be better have an attitude of, "I am 100% confident I can kick your butt and I have the plan to do it."
-
MeanMag-- Perhaps I misunderstood your post. I agree with you that we had good defenses when Coach DeLoach was here...not a whole lot since...... and you have no point of contention with me there and I appologize if I took it the wrong way..... Kinda goes to show what a tenatious coach can do (in this case on defense). You, just like the majority of us, now, (and more soon to be converted) want more from our program. The question is can Mr. Mediocrity do it??? By the end of September we will know what the answer is and we should be able to judge how the rest of the 2006 FB season will turn out. Nobody on this board can say that after 9 years at UNT that DD had a "fair" shot at turning our program around. Geeeeze.....9 years.....in the weakest D-1A conferences in America and still a losing record. MeanMag, you are just as frustrated as all of us who NOW see: 1. No "Area 51" or top 100 state players considering UNT for the past 2-3 years. 2. Coaches that bad mouth the fans on radio and in the stands. 3. UNT being non-competitive on the OOC field of play for the last 8 years. 4. Mr. Mediocrity with a "defeatist" attitude toward some of the teams we play. 5. Some posters stated that Mr. Mediocrity would show up to practices late. 6. UNT being out recruited by D-1AA in state programs. 7. UNT being out recruited by other in/out of state Mid-Major Programs. I believe that Mr. Mediocrity has reached the APEX of his college career at UNT!!! If he can not recruit the players we need that is the fault of his staff. If his staff can not get the players then he should have fired them long ago .... but he decided to keep them. He kept "mediocrity" in his staff. mag, you have a happy new year.

DeepGreen- ok.....lose
-
Buff/GreenFlag--- If I may please interject on what sells tickets is not "O" or "D" !! What sells tickets is being "COMPETITIVE" in every game you play!! I personally do not know anyone who goes to "any" game because they want to see a good "O" or "D." What sells is going to a game that the coaches have totally prepared the team for and prepared the fans for with the expectations of "WINNING." Mr. Mediocrity prepared us & the team for LSU by saying we have "NO" chance to win. Two years ago the TROY coach prepared his team to beat LSU, which they almost did and prepared them to beat Missouri, which they did. Who would you rather have??? A: Mr. Mediocrity or B: One that prepares to WIN?? If you remember in the opening lines of the movie "PATTON," George C. Scott (Patton) gets up on the podium and says some important lines: 1. We are here to let the other poor sum-bitch die for his country. 2. We are going to run through them like shi_ through a goose. 3. America hates a loser. What Patton (G.C.Scott) did not say was, " well boys I don't think we have a chance." At the Battle of the Bulge, Gen. McAlfree, told the Germans NUTS when he was surrounded....just because he was surrounded and outnumbered he didn't give up and won the battle.........."This is being prepared." "You have to be prepared for war, school and on the athletic field." If your not prepared----YOU LOOSE!!! What type of philosophy would you rather have from your football staff and what sells tickets???? 1. A good "D" 2. A good "O" 3. A coach that says," we have NO chance" in beating some teams and leaves the team UNPREPARED AND DISCOURAGED (not to say how we feel as alum/students.) 4. A coach that PREPARES a team to WIN every single game like Coach Rusk did at Arkansas, like Coach Fry did with Tennessee, like Coach Nelson did with Texas??? What sells is being COMPETITIVE and ready to kick butt. Not keeping the score close to the 4th quarter to see if we have a "CHANCE" to win!!! That philosophy is for "losers" not "winners."
-
GreenJoe-- Come on man. It is vacation time. I expect to see no cheerleader (because of vacation break) and the same dancers who were at the U of H game (probably because they live in Denton). NT by 15 with another 15 steals.
-
MeanMag-- I appreciate your perception and comments. However, let me clarify. I am attaching a generic web site for your review on UNT's past performances: http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/su...texas/index.php Take a look what DD has done since he has been here. I will be the first to admit that DD had a hard road to hoe building a program after Coach Simon was fired. You state that we did not have a "mediocre" defense 3 years ago....ok.....i will go along with your definition of not having that mediocre of a defense 3 years ago. Texas only put up 27 against us. What do you think they will do this September in Austin and why do you think they will do that?? Sure, you can point to a one or two years where our defense, in your opinion, was not mediocre and I will partially agree. But ask yourself this...where has our defense gone since 3 years ago? Where was it last year when 3 teams hung 54+ on us?? If success breads success in winning "Dante's Inferno" (SBC) how come last year we scored 157 points to the opponents 346?? Then take a look at the provided web site and tell us where we have been compeititve in OOC games and our league's games since DD's arrival?? You have to remember that there are D-1AA football conferences that are "ranked" higher than "Dante's Inferno." Mr. Mediocrity is proud to state that he likes to keep games close to the 4th Quarter for a "chance" to win. What kind of philosophy is that??? That is like a college student saying, " I want to keep my class grade at "C" until the final so I might have a chance to make a "B." Mr. Mediocrity philosophy is MEDIOCRITY!! If Mr. Mediocrity changed his philosophy to, "I am here to kick your butt and the better I do it the better I feel," I would respect him more.....but to keep the score close to the 4th Quarter so we have a "CHANCE TO WIN????" Coach Rod Rust took an EXCELLENT team up to Little Rock in 1968 to play #1 Arkansas and lost 17-15. If it were not for the life saving SWC official call on Ronnie Shanklin (actually catching the ball in the end zone: the ref. said he trapped it) we would have beat #1. Coach Rust nor any other coach I have EVER heard of EVER had a philosophy of "KEEP IT CLOSE." To me, like others of you, that is PROFESSIONAL MALFESIANCE. Let me say this, too: Do I advocate firing DD??..NO!!!....BUT.....I have set down and I think, so far, I am the only one that has set down parameters to keep Mr. Mediocrity for another year which I have posted previously. Those parameters are: Win 2 OOC games, Run the Belt and win the NO Bowl against CUSA's #4 team. Do I personally think that he will do that?? My answer is ????? Do I think Mr. Mediocrity is salvagable as a coach???? My answer is ????? None of us JUST want to be competitive JUST in "Dante's Inferno"....we want to be competitive in our OOC games games too. That has not happened. That blame has to be spread around to RV and not only DD. But DD has the ULTIMATE responisbility to get the team "COMPETITIVELY" ready to play these teams, just like Coach Rust did against Arkansas, what Coach Fry did against Tennessee and what Coach Nelson (when we were D-1AA) against Texas in a game that the Texas receiver, clearly, caught the ball out of the end zone by 2-3 yards and was called a touchdown at the end of the game. That is the type of team and coaching philosophy WE ALL WANT BACK....let me repeat that.....WE WANT THAT BACK NOW!!! MeanGreen61--- Please do not compare me with PMG.... He is much better.
