  2. SilverEagle-- If you are making them up ..... make 'em faster and add another 20 pounds to all of 'em.
  3. Illuvius/SilverEagle-- I appreciate all your updates......thanks
  4. SilverEagle--- I forgot we had a QB Coach.. .... two combative coaching personalities would have made for a "fun" year on and off the field.
  5. http://www.themightymjd.com/2006/02/15/rya...e-quarterbacks/ another interesting article on Leaf.
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=2330897 If somebody like this was available how come UNT did not get him??
  7. We are close to #175 at 208
  8. I remember Don Garland, #70, quit the team in his sophmore year during spring practice after Joe Greene, literally, broke 3 of his helmets. In his Freshman year, 1967, (this was when NTSU had a Freshman team and incidently beat the University of Oklahoma freshmen) the Freshman team lined up against the varsity team and Joe Greene broke 2 of his helmets. I had a couple of classes with Don and quite a few beers where he told me all these stories. He never played football again.
  9. just a bunch of farm boys havin' fun.
  10. Personally, I thought we should have never changed our name from North Texas State University since that is what just about all commentators still call us today.
  11. an expansion to other state's top players would help too.
  12. GEO- you, now can get 40-year mortgages. would that be ok???
  13. IMHO DD's fate rests in RF's hands on the "phone" this year. UNT = #110 out of 117 D-1A teams this year & possibly #125 - 140 if you count D-1AA teams that are better that us. This is not bragging rights for a university that places so much emphasis on education and virtually no emphasis on athletic performance of its staff. enough said.
  14. If we can play either NMSU, Syracuse or Temple......that is a combined 1-33 between all three. At least we would have a chance to win against a major program.
  15. This is very encouraging
  16. How much of this changing of the "guard" is because Coach Dickey is on the HOT SEAT this year??? Does he want to keep the same staff that has placed UNT in the precarious situation that we now face??? For example being #110 out of 117 D-1A teams, having a pourous defense and having an sporatic offense. Men who coach college football know the risks of unproductive programs. I do wish the coaches who were released the best of luck in finding new positions for them and their families.
  17. meangreendork-- I see we of the "dark side" are on the same page. Coach Patterson (TCU) has had some up and down seasons at TCU but has always recovered........ 2000......10-2 2001........6-6 2002......10-2 2003......11-2 2004.......5-6 2005......11-1 If a schools money was a contributing factor to its success then Rice, Stanford, Tulsa, Texas A&M would have just over powering programs year after year. Correct me if I am wrong, which I am from time to time, why is it easier for some coaches like Mike Price(UTEP) or Dennis Francionne(A&M) to rebuild a program than Coach Dickey??? I think it is salesmanship and having the staff that knows how to sell a program. Again, look at Coach Mumme from NMSU...ZERO wins last year in his first year and recruits 2 DFW players from Area 51 (DFW's top 50)....I just use Area 51 because it is a mystery for UNT staff to land this talent. Does this send off any warning signals???? It does for me and it should for everyone else too. Glad to see that you are looking at this program objectively meangreendork.
  18. Naturally, I hate to keep beating my head against the wall on this topic but: 1. Four SBC bowl appearances has not yielded us better talent. No players that made the Area 51 roster (area's best 50 in the DFW area)....heck, NMSU, who won ZERO games last year picked up 2 HS recruits from that list. Now that is sales!! 2. It still takes a "salesman" to sell this program and that, IMHO, is not being done. DD may be the greatest guy to hang with fishing and having a brewski but his salesmanship is lacking. Other Mid-Major programs that win 4 championships, in their respective conferences, get better talent. Have you ever thought, "hummmmm.....why can not UNT do that or why did they not take advantage of those specific circumstances??" IMHO, again, why can NMSU out recruit UNT in DD and RF's own back yard?? That personally disturbs me. The NMSU coach, Hal Mumme, may have won ZERO games last year, in his first year, but evidently the man knows how to "sell" a program. 3. Anyone else discouraged that UNT is ranked #110 of 117 D-1A programs (even after winning the SBC 4 out of the last 5 years)?? Our ranking is obviously lower if you place all the D-1AA programs that are better than us!! How does that make you feel??? That would put us about #125-140 in the country. 4. If DD reverts to "DD Ball" again this year we may endeavor to another 2005 season. If DD reinvents himself into an "Alpha Male" and goes to a "wide open" offense then we should have an interesting year. Hopefully, all the redshirt talent that Coach Dickey has been stockpiling will come through. 5. If 2006 ends up like 2005 are the ardent DD supporters willing to wait "one more year" for him to pull us out of an inverted tail spin before we truely "crash-burn & die?" Can you imagine how many years it will take to recover from what is currently happening to OUR program?? 6. We know what the National Champions will do to us, we know that Tulsa and La Tech hung over 50 on us last year and we play them again this year. 7. UNT is capable of having a similar program to TCU....why can't we?? What does Coach Patterson do that Coach Dickey does not?? Coach Bennett is putting together a much improved program at SMU, IMHO. Where does that leave us?? Anyone else disturbed what is going on and how long it will take to recover or is everyone else complacently content to waller as #110 of 117 and that will put us in ESPN's Bottom 10. 8. Win 2/4 OOC games, win the SBC and beat the #4 CUSA team to keep Coach Dickey....anything less.........then the administration should give the alum the personal repect to find a head coach that is capable to restore the pride we once knew.

  20. Greeley Colorado does not seem like a bad place to be. Skiing....snow bunnies....cookouts.....snow bunnies.....football.....snow bunnies.....class.....snow bunnies. Looks like a good place for an excellent education.....since that what counts anyway. good luck to your boy.
  21. My prayers go out to Coach Dickey and his family. I wish him a speedy recovery.
  22. I think USA shot about 70% in the first half and almost 60% for the game. It is hard to beat anyone with that percentage. Appeared that the refs, in the first half, were split on how to call the game. I could not figure out if they wanted to let the guys play or call it close. The second half the refs tried to call the game really close and got everyone out of their rhythm. USA had a good press on our guys throughout the game and IMHO took the team out of their ususal "up and down" play. At least we know that we will be in the SBC tournament and hopefully we can turn Saturday's night lesson into a win next time we play USA. IMHO, with the team we have now and what we will have next year we are on the cusp of going to the NCAA Tournament. Look for great things with JJ this year and next.
  23. MeanGreen61--- You can come up with offensive and defensive information or come up with what Coach Dickey has done for the last 3 years compared to his first 5 or any other variation but: It still does not negate the "Cold Hard Facts" of: 1. 3 winning seasons in 8 years. 2. Overall record of 33-55 (41%) 3. #107 out of 117 D-1A teams......and much lower if you count the D-1AA teams that are ranked above us. 4. Name one D-1A coach that has survived in his current position with this record?? If you are satisfied with this mediocrity then I can accept your decision of living in mediocrity and hoping that "next year" will be THE year. There are many of us who do not accept this mediocrity. These figures are an absolute embarrasement, at least to me. I have seen NTSU/UNT play football since 1966 and I have never seen us ranked SO low, kept a non-preforming coach for SO long and have alum say that a 41% winning percentage, after 8 years, is fine with me.....because i just want to be mediocure and a "yes man" to whatever RV and the BoR tells me. If college taught some of us old timers one thing it is to think for ourselves. I do not know what they are teaching now but sounds like some of you are proud to be mediocure and proud to be #107 out of 117. hahahahahahhaha Gee Plum, KingDL and et. al.........things have changed.......it is no longer, "be the best you can be" .... now it is, "strive to be mediocure."
  24. 3 winning seasons in 8 years. 39-55 overall record (41%). 107 out of 117 D-1A FB. Name another coach in D-1A that has survived in his current position with this record?? Are you satisfied with this?? Can you see our frustration??? How many more years are you willing to give DD/RV/BoR to turn around the program???? Can you see our frustration????
