Juco Dt Josh Thompson Spurns Scholarships
eulesseagle replied to SUMG's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Year after year this same discusion. All programs ONLY have so many scholarships and not everyone who wants to be selected will be selected for a scholarship. NT, like all other similar programs, are a product of "trickle down economics." IMHO, there is nothing wrong with showing intresest in these JUCO's becuase, who knows, where they want to go and where they end up are two different stories. Some of these kids usually end up saying the phrase..."I sure am glad that coach (name one) kept after me." Translated: I got turned down by all the BCS programs and it was between two Non AQ schools, SHSU and Sul Ross. -
Just give me a bowl of hot steamin' crow..............with two spoons.

Just for one.....I really am surprised and enthused to see that the NT BOR and whoever else is finally opening their pocketbooks to get some QUALITY football coaches from quality football programs and experience. Now the hard part for the new coaching staff......quality players. With this new enthusiasm and a new stadium perhaps we can start seeing more wins...much more wins.
-
Don't get too excited because it is only one game and one game does not make a season. UNT will win the SBC and get selected for The Dance and if the bizzare happens UNT will play SHSU in the tournament somewhere down the road. Not too likely but stranger things happen.

Fouts Field Implosion Is? And How Many Seats On...
eulesseagle replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
The Disneyland/6-Flags Trams are scheduled to be built after they dome the new stadium in 2100. You will have a choice to be telepathicly transported to and from the stadium or take the "granny train" which will deposit you directly in your assigned seat, provide you with a soft drink and solent green pizza for an additional $700 more. -
94 feet of heat? It is down to 1 feet of luke warm spit. Agree....it's time for change.

Amazing for our perspective at NT. Our AD would have given him an extention on his contract. Big conferences, Big money, Big pressure to win lots of games to get to bigger bowl payouts, Big money donors wanting bigger results on the field. I would predict that IF Coach Wannstedt wants to coach next season there will be plenty of opportunities.

Seuss.....why are you asking a question in #7 and answering your question in #8 ?? Do you log on under two different names and just got confused this time??

Glad to see him there with RV....only wished that RV would have introduced him to the crowd. He appeared to be energetic and spoke willingly and shook hands with the crowd. On the post game show he was still talking to anyone who wanted to speak to him. Hope he shows up, recruiting trips permitting, to the rest of the games......much like the BB coaches do to the rest of NT athletics. On a side note....he does have that dark Florida tan.

YES.....great first hire!!

Is Dunbar Our Greatest Running Back Ever?

Ken Bahnsen who held all the NT rushing records until sometime in the 80's. -
Some of you should visit SMU and TCU's basketball arenas. The Pit may be old but still is superior to the other metroplex arenas and all the "Belt" schools...IMHO. Why even think about building another when you can't fill it up and it's not falling down?

I listened in on the TCU news conference on their radio station and it appeared that the audience was somewhat not in favor of joining the Big East. Even the reporters were a little hostile to the move. The TCU Prez said that travel would only be about 100 mile more, per team, than the current travel in the MWC.???? Here is my take on the situation. TCU was snubbed by the new and improved Big 12 and wanted out of CUSA with the future intentions of getting into a BCS conference. The MWC was a stepping stone up from CUSA and now the B.E. is the next logical step putting them into the BCS. I would look for TCU to jump from the B.E. the first chance they get to obtain another BCS conference alignment with more regional appeal. Will TCU be good next year in football? They loose Andy Dalton, QB who is the spark plug of the offense and I really do not think their back up QB is that dynamic. Their BB program will get killed in the B.E. Financially, more TV means more $$$. More bowl slots with higher payouts mean more $$$. Why not use the B.E. as a stepping stone like they have used CUSA and the MWC. I think that it is money that fuels the train and would not NT do the same given the opportunity? Now with the possibility of NT moving up from the SBC to the MWC or CUSA the university has two major strong points.....a)BB and b)a new 30000 seat, expandable, stadium.

No matter how I was wishing that Coach Canales would be the next HC.....the waiting is over and DM is now the coach. I wish him the best of luck and will support the choice. Everyone should do the same for the best of the program. I also wish Coach Canales the best of luck too. I will, now, always be a Canales fan ... this man has been sucessful and always will be.

The BEST hire that MacC could do would be to hire Coach Canales.

Rv-How Am I Supposed To Get Behind Dan Mccarney
eulesseagle replied to UNTMike81's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think that Coach MacC fits PMG's profile for a big name coach.....I can't wait for PMG's epistles on this, alleged but reported, hire. What say you friend? -
Mike Canales Coached His @ss Off Today
eulesseagle replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Last night was one of the best emotional games that I have seen at Fouts. Listening to the students chant MIKE CANALES was just great. Never heard that before in support of a coach. Watching Riley Dodge go down and lay on the field for about ten minutes was gut wrenching then having the team go half way out on the field in support....wow. That kid has given it all to NT plus all the positive comments RD has said about Coach Canales along with just about all the other team in support of Coach Canales. Listening to the post game on the way home with Coach Snyder saying that NT beat us except for the score was, IMHO, not just coach speak for saying it was a good game but in total support of Coach Canales and what he did with fourteen or now fifteen starters not playing because of injuries. I would rather have ex NT Assistant Coach Synder's recommendation (who for those who don't know went to Iowa with Coach Fry & having KSU's FB stadium named after him) than RV's final decision about MacC. Appears that the entire NT FB team is in support of having Coach Canales return next year. These guys were pumped up last night. I have seen too many times when one of our teams like this just kinda played out a game against an opponent like KSU .... except for last night when they PLAYED TO WIN to the final Hail Mary by, again, our 4th string QB. That 4th and 7 shouvel pass was just great to bring us back within 8 with, still, time enough to win. I have got to wonder next year if MacC is actually the HC if the team will respond to him as they have with Coach Canales. The team wants him, the student (with their chants) want him, I sit behind old ledgendary Coach Brewer (for the last three years) and that man.......with all his coaching experience thinks Coach Canales is a most qualified coach and the ones of us who have seen a POSITIVE mental turnaround of the team with play calling that I have not seen in years .... I believe that those of us who have watched NT play for years...decades....that the play calling is 100% better....want Coach Canales. Let me summarize: 1 + 1 = 2 RV....1 + 1 = 3 (RV would rather have a coach with a loosing record, took four or five years of loosing at ISU before having a winning record and an assistant coach at a ledgendary winning program at Florida and pay him $500k+/yr at NT?).....IMHO, O2 has departed from RV's faculties and has been replaced, by what we used to call in the Navy.....brown. -
People were sayin' the same things, most of you are sayin', 'bout Captain Kargaroo at FAU. National Championship, world beater, Top 10....etc....etc....etc..... It's the Sun Belt......kids think.....The Captain at FAU or Florida State or Miami. They would rather play in front of 90k to 100k instead of 15k in the SBC hot spots like Monroe, Troy or NE Arkansas. Can't blame 'em...... Harry started this topic with..."RUMOR has it"...... Even IF Fran goes to TSU....it's in the WAC which in my estimation is now lower than the SBC. Just my thoughts.

Unt Coaching Search: It Came Down To Eight
eulesseagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
OH, one more thing after a little thought. After Chuck's exhaustive stealth recruiting and if NT is willing to pay $1,000,000/yr for a "complete" coach staff including HC.....ALL EIGHT of the names that Chuck mentions are WILLING to come here? Because, if I were Chuck and the names that I submitted for the $40k, that I was given, are not true does that not constitute fraud? Did Leach, et.al., express interest in being NT's HC for 500k/yr & another $500k for the assistants? Personally, there are members on this board who could have done just as good if not better of a job than Chuck and come up with a selection of names that would OVERTLY not COVERTLY show interest in the NT job......and possibly for $10k less. -
Unt Coaching Search: It Came Down To Eight
eulesseagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I am getting the impression that this is "stealth recruiting" of a coach. The ONLY one out of that group that has expressed that HE WANTS the job is Coach Canales. Even the current unemployed coaches have NOT come up on any sport's radar as expressing interest in the NT job. What this tells me is that they either are NOT interested in the NT coaching position, they like collecting their buy out cash or they are holding out for something that pays more at a much more prestigious program. Sounds like the same senario how lower level programs, like NT, end up with some of our players when it comes down to a choice of Sul Ross, N.W. Minnesota State University and NT. Why have not some of the unemployed coaches not already been hired by other programs as DC, OC or other positions? Is it their record, holding out for more money or a better program? What sort of reputation does NT have in the college coaching ranks? I don't want RV or this administration to hire someone just because he has a "name" and no job. I want someone who truely wants to be here and has expressed an interest in being here. Hummmmm............well that narrows down the field. -
Took some time to look at the nearly completed EulessEagle War Memorial Football stadium and looking over to the Athletic complex I saw RV talking to, what appeared to be Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris......naw......no way......could Chuck be recommending these guys???....
