  2. I think we all agree that we want the best Type-A personality who can motivate the team up and down the field ........... and most of all, no platooning of the QB's as RF was suggesting.
  3. UNT should get the BCS cast offs....remember these are just 18-20 year olds with maybe one or two "youthful indiscriminations." UNT wont have to worry about Bomar working 5 hours a week for $15,000 in Denton...... UNT athletics, just like just about every program, has had its share of dope dealers and DWI's (along with a couple of deaths). You hold up our QB Smith in such high esteem but forget that he had traces of marijuiana and booze in his system. You blow it off because he played for UNT but you wont let it go for other kids from other schools. So............why not get these two guys from OU......Looks like we may be a little late....looks like Bomar and his roommate will end up at TCU.....Peterson knows talent and personality and the giving of a second chance to student players.
  4. The SBC is just what it is....The Sun Belt Conference. As I recall at the end of every football season there has always been a D-1AA conference ahead in rankings above the SBC. If I were DD would I take Bomar and his roomie?? Sure, why not. We need a good QB and another good lineman. I dont care what baggage they bring. IMHO, it would not be too bad if DD, et al, would pick up all the players that other BCS conferences are booting off their teams. UNT would be known as the Oakland Raiders of college football. A team with attitude. Yea, I like the sound philosophy of this concept. Kinda like what Okie State in BB has been doing for years.

  10. http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=111678 Looks like we play 5 of the top 30 mid major schools.
  11. I am glad to see Coach DD sending all of his coaches into the Greater DFW area (Johnson, Tarrant, Dallas, Denton Counties). Appeared it was difficult for one coach to handle the largest inland megolopolis in the U.S.A..
  12. I am glad my remedial math teacher does not read this.... corrected.... thanks GEO.
  13. http://conferenceusa.cstv.com/sports/m-foo.../072406aae.html UCF to finish 1st in the east. This was a team that was 0-11 in 2004. Two words...George O'Leary. Tulsa to finish 1st in the west. SMU to finish 4th in the west.
  14. http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/mo...n_the_polls.php MGDork-- look at the records of Tx a&M 2003.......4-8 with wins over LaLa and LaTech 2004.......7-5 with wins over utah and wyoming 2005.......5-6 with wins over smu and texas state look at the record of okla state 2003.......9-4 with wins over wyoming, missouri state, smu and lala 2004.......7-5 with wins over tulsa and smu 2005.......4-7 with wins over montana state, FAU and arkansas state. unfortunately for mid-majors and D-1AA according to a post earlier today the Big-12 is the conference that loads up more than any other conference on lesser teams. please check the link for records and who they played. MGDork----next time you are in Denton check out Metzers for great BBQ, german sausage, onion rings etc. (see the post) and the best beer selection in 100 miles.....best foriegn selection anywhere.
  15. anyone for a lunch run this saturday?
  16. Teasley and Normandee.....just about 1 block south of I-35.....turn right on normandee and get ready for some great sausage and even better imported beer from all around the world.....the best selection in denton county. ya oughta get out of the house more.....make sure you get your wife's permission.
  17. You have to try their german sausage and german potato salad....the best! 5 stars.
  18. Because of how bowl games and the subsequent payout occur to BCS schools with winning records it benefits these institutions to schedule and beat a combination of four D-1AA and Mid-Major programs. These BCS schools know they can not have a winning record against their conference mates and other BCS schools in other conferences. MGDork....you think A&M will tolerate a blantently soft schedules year in and year out to go to bowls.... the Corps of Cadets and other A&M alum will sell out Kyle Field because they are fanatics on season tickets..... IMHO, if Coach Fran loses one of these "soft" games and fails to go to a bowl then it is hasta luego amigo. IMHO, again, the NCAA needs to change their rules on the number of games D-1A schools must win against other D-1A opponents to qualify for a post season bowl. I can not stand a school like A & M who wins four games against D-1AA and Mid-Majors and wins two and maybe three against Big-12 opponents and make it to a bowl.
  19. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4066840.html 1. Rice is taking the steps necessary to build a program. 2. Will UNT's "fathers" continue to sit and watch the world go by, again? 3. Our admin needs to take a good healthy dose of E-LAX and hurry up and get off the pot. 4. We slapped WAC in the face a couple of years ago to move up. If UNT continues to be complacently content in our current situation and CUSA takes one or two members of the SBC and not us, then we can always invite Texas State, SFA, NW State and the other members of the Southland Conference to join the SBC.
  20. IMHO, the WAC or CUSA would be a step up from what we are currently doing now. 1. If UNT was offered a bid, tomorrow, to join the WAC would I do it? YES! 2. If UNT was offered a bid, tomorrow, to join the CUSA would I do it? YES! 3. Do I prefer one over the other? NO! I really do not believe that if UNT had won all four bowl games that we would have been invited to another conference. UNT slapped the WAC in the face by saying no we do not want to move up and be in a more presitious conference than the SBC. To me the "university fathers" were blatently stating that we are complacently content to stay where we are in the worst D-1A conference in America were in any given year there are D-1AA conferences that end up with higher conference rankings than the SBC. My questions to the "university fathers are: 1. Do you just want to field sports teams "just" for entertainment? 2. Do you have any intentions to move this program forward to a better conference and more prestige? If the "university fathers" insist that sports teams at UNT are for the expressed purpose of "entertainment" then why not go to a "non-scholarship" program and join the likes of Ausin College in their conference. If the "university fathers" intentions are to move the program to the next level then they should be laying the "ground work" for the next level like: 1. Commiting manpower and financial resources for a new stadium. 2. Re-evaluating our current coaching situation. Remember that DD was 13-33-1 as an (un)offensive coordinator at UTEP and SMU and 39-55 as head coach at UNT. As a casual observer this unimpressive record tells me that Coach DD is not the man, including his staff, to lead us anywhere other than fighting it out in the SBC. His OOC record is abysmal, to be kind. UTEP is made the move with a dynamic coach....and financial windfalls for the program. Idaho is making the move with a dynamic coach. TT (BB) made the move with a dynamic coach....and financial windfalls for the program. NMSU is making a move....and.....I will have to agree with the poster who said that in a couple of years NMSU along with Idaho and Utah State will out pace UNT in our current and lathargic position. Unfortuately, the UNT system is broke from top to bottom. IMHO, movement begins at the top and blame for the dysfunctional system, that we currenly operate under today, rests solely on the shoulders of the "university fathers." 1. What other system would the hiring of a coach with a 13-33-1 record as an OC? 2. What other system would allow a coach to be kept after a record of 39-55? 3. What other system would allow the OC to be kept after yelling at fans? 4. What other system would allow the HC to belittle the team, himself and fans on radio? 5. What other system embraces mediocracy as a guidepost to success? My concern is that Troy, LaLa or MTSU may overtake UNT in athletics at our current pace. When the next conference "shake ups" take place (and they most certainly will) the current complacently content system that our "university fathers" so embrace today will keep UNT in an antiquated athletic system of yesteryear.
  21. Got5onIt-- With the Big East expanding in football UNT would be part of the trickle down effect by the B.E. taking one or more schools from different conference....lets say CUSA or somewhere else which then other conferences would look for replacements. The best chance for UNT to move up would be another conference shake up.

  24. I nominate and would like to have the administration give serious consideration to: 1. He has speed. 2. His left arm will never wear out. 3. Only one problem is if he sqeezes too tight the coke will explode in your face. Andrew Ross By: Houlton Schools Date: July 14, 2006 Houlton, Maine- Houlton, Maine running back Andrew Ross has signed a scholarship to play for the Mean Green of UNT as announced today. Ross led the Caribous in his Sophmore, Junior and Senior years in rushing with a total of 5,874 yards. According to Jim Larkins, his high school coach, Ross not only excelled in the classroom but was the team captain in his Senior year. The 2,645 yeards he gained last year is a state record. He also caught 12 passes for 215 yards and was 14 of 25 passing for 187 yards. Larkins said that Ross was not highly recruited after suffering one minor fracture to his right arm, in his Junior year, playing hockey against the Junior French National Team in Lyons, France. Larkins said that Ross' size of 5'2" and 125 pounds was not encouraging for major colleges to recruit him because of possible durability and injury factors. Even though he runs the 40 in 4.1 and the 100 yards in 9.98 no colleges offered him any full full rides. His class mates call him Speedy Gonzales. After he gets the ball he is really hard to see and is compared to former Dallas Cowboy Tony Dorsett in his ability to cut in and out of trouble. In his Freshman year he lost his left arm in a snowmobile accident. Ross' biometric left arm, according to Ross is 100% most of the time. One antidote that Ross tells is when they were playing a game in Lewiston (Maine), in his Junior year, he was carrying the ball in his left arm and the arm malfunctioned and the ball exploded and he was still able to carry a six inch piece of pigskin 55 yards for a touchdown. He has had to have his hand removed a couple of other times from linemen's face mask when the fingers jam, in the winter. Andrew's great grandfather was one of the Munchkins in the Wizard of Oz and his sister has appeared on the Littlest Groom. Ross is the tallest of his family at 5'2". His father and mother are both 4'9" and his sister is 4'7". Bill Ross, Andrew's father still holds the the record in Austrailia for being tossed 17' 9" in a dwarf toss in Melbourn in 1979.
  25. Class Warfare????? Come on get real....... If you are always setting SMU on a higher and more powerful pedistal than UNT then they will always be more elite and UNT will always be 2nd class. Therefore they have WON! Pyschologically SMU has already beat you everytime you elevate their status in these posts. If you do not believe me ask Dr. Phil. Please get away from the class warfare crap.
