  4. SHSU has a good chance to beat SMU because their leading rusher, Demyron Martin, has a broken foot that happened during the UNT game. It would be nice to see Rhett Bomar play.

  9. IMHO just about every school has to face the endemic problems with atheletic talent with marginal grades....sometimes they come through and sometimes they do not. Coach Jones may have won the recruiting war but like other coaches lost to the grade issue. We should not lambast Coach Jones for doing what he is suppose to be doing.... Also, IMHO, Coach Jones has talked some other atheletes from major programs to join his program even if they have to sit out a year. I admire that.

  13. Stebo--- Dude, it was just a prediction.....there is no fact about my prediction
  14. I predict that the FB teams wins 1/5 OOC games, runs the "Belt" and wins the NOB against the #4 C-USA team.
  15. I want to hear more about Puff the Magic Dragon.
  16. FFR-- You put some great thought into your writings.....but.....we will have to agree to disagree. My point is that the SBC has a hard enough time getting into the NOB much less having another SBC team that looks attractive enough to be invited to another bowl, outright. Given the right circumstances anything can happen and we can look at Troy a couple of years ago being invited to the Silicon Valley Bowl after a couple of other teams declined. They got in because nobody wanted it. If I remember the same thing happened a couple or three years ago at the Humanitarian Bowl where two or three teams turned it down. If schools continue to turn down bowl games because they think they should be playing in better bowls then this is, practically, the only chance that a second SBC team will go bowling, IMHO. As things stand now the "new" Texas Bowl is going after higher profile conferences---and---I would be bold enough to say that the B-12 and BE is an easier sell for sponsorships. Like you said, "anything can happen" but in reality, in our current situation, it will not be with the Texas Bowl so I try not to get uptight about our current situation. The key word is CURRENT SITUATION. As we all understand and verbalize about is getting out of our "current situation" but until then we just have to expect being abused by other conferences, in bowl alignments, and those who feel that the SBC and UNT is not worthy to be invited to such events. Where does that leave us??? We gotta win some games and be consistant in going to the NOB and winning some OOC games against higher profile mid-major and BCS programs.........we all know that losing all the OOC games and just winning the SBC gets no respect nationally not only for UNT but the other members of the SBC. My last point is what RV was stating the other day when he said that our current football facility was NOT the determining factor in getting accepted to another conference (WAC or C-USA). If that is not the determining factor then that just leaves UNT needing more wins against OOC and SBC opponents and to continue to fill Fouts and the PIT.
  17. IMHO, This is a moot point. Even if UNT had an undefeated season we still go to the NOB! Not unless there are additional bowl games added to post season play there will be practically NO chance that a second team from the SBC would be invited. In five years of the SBC UNT got permission from the NCAA to go to the first bowl with a losing record. A couple of years ago Troy, who came in second in the SBC, and had a winning record got invited to the Silicon Bowl (or some similar California Bowl) ONLY because two or three other teams turned it down.....got in by default. Face it guys....the only way the SBC gets respect is to win OOC games. When you have just about the entire conference, at the end of the season, with par or sub par records what does that tell you about the strength of the conference??? Even if UNT came in #2 this year in the SBC we might, at best, have a 6-6 or a 5-7 record. We all know that.....who are we kidding?? For those of you who aspire to go the the Texas Bowl you have LOST sight of where you really want us to go.......the New Orleans Bowl......Let's get to the NOB a couple more times instead of aspiring to go to a bowl that, even if we came in #2 in the SBC, we may have a losing record. Heck, the Texas Bowl would be a good bowl to go to if we were #2, #3 or #4 in CUSA. If UNT can not get to the NOB then conferences will overlook us......and we will be stuck in a "transitional conference" .... one that is barely higher than D-1AA and not as high as a mid-major.
  18. The Nuts and Bolts of what RV was stating ...... like some of us have stated repeated times over the last year or so..... 1. We know we are in the SBC and will be until another conference invitation. 2. Until something opens up UNT needs to excell in all sports. 3. UNT still needs "back sides" in the stands for FB & BB (primarily). 4. Somebody needs to win the lottery for the new stadium. 5. Quarterly updates would be nice from the AD on the current status of the program. 6. Quarterly updates would be nice from DD and JJ too.....as a matter of fact it would be interesting to have a "chat" discussion with RV, DD, JJ & TS in the near future. Personally, I think this would dispell vicious rumors, conspiracies and the perverbial "he said-she said" discussions that are rampent on this board. As far as this year: 1. I am looking forward to a "wider" open offense than what we have been used to in the past in FB. 2. I certainly hope that DD can keep his diabietes under control. As we all age we are always more concerned about our health. Perhaps some of us other "wide body" alums can follow DD's lead and looooooooose 10 or 20 pounds. 3. I look forward to mens and womens BB.
  19. screamingeagle-66: we have got to stop blaming smu for our current woes. dang, that was 20+ years ago and a lot has happened since then: 1. our university fathers gave us something worse than the smu death penalty....they put us in D-1AA ... we too have never recovered. 2. our university fathers have not made one good coaching choice or committment to athletics since we came out of D-1AA......face it...... 3. our university fathers do just enough to keep us afloat in the SBC. Yea, we turned down the WAC because of the added money to the athletic budget. Do you really think the university fathers would have accepted an invitation to CUSA if it cost us $5 million to join?? I believe it cost TCU around $5 million or so to join CUSA......some article in the FT Worth Startlegram said something about the cost. 4. our university fathers seem more intent on spending for educational facilities over the metroplex than giving us national exposure in athletics........Gonzaga: not a big school but made a committment to athletics (basketball)....now just about everywhere you go there is "Zag" memorabilia (they are an icon to Americana). 5. our univsersity fathers want to keep us in "yesteryear" and not take a chance on someone who can dig us out of the hole we are in. >>>Look what happened with the ZAGs (bb) >>>Look what happened at Texas Tech (bb and fb) >>>Look what happened at UTEP (fb) >>>IMHO...NMSU will revive in fb >>>IMHO...Ohio U will revive in fb with Stolic (from Neb) >>>IMHO...Idaho will revive under their old NFL coach. I just do not see any committment for athletics from our university fathers, period. We can not keep blaming DD and friends for the record that he has becuz he can not release himself from his contract. Who cares about if we are invited to the Texas Bowl?? It is really not that big of a deal, period. Think about it .... if there was another new bowl in Texas and took the best teams available after all other D-1A Texas teams were taken for all the other bowl games that would leave, maybe a couple of 6-6 teams playing each other.....whoooopie.....
  20. Guys, In the SBC if we lost one or two games we still go to the New Orlean's Bowl.....i jest when I say lose one or two games in a season. However.....if UNT came in #2 in the SBC, can you imagine what record we could have compared to others in the past (maybe 6-6 or 5-7). Now think about what has happened the two other times in SBC history when there have been bowl eligible teams......Troy got invited to the Silicon Valley Bowl (or some California bowl when the other team backed out).....and the other bowl eligible team was not invited anywhere. Chances are that the SBC is not going to have two bowl eligible teams in any given year anyway. In my little humpty dumpty world there are too many bowl games anyway and there is no importance to any of the "umpteen" bowl games except who plays for the national championship and the NOB. Do you really think that if UNT won the SBC we would turn down the chance to play in the NOB just to play in the Texas Toilet Bowl, if we were invited??? Heck UNT may be the only SBC school eligible to play in a bowl game from our conference. This is pretty much a moot point anyway.....
  21. Come on guys what we need is a couple more bowls that will take the #2 SBC team (if they have enough wins.....how many times has this happened.....twice??). That way the #2 SBC team (provided it had a winning record) would have the chance to play the #9 or #10 Big 12, B.E., SEC, Big 10, ACC, WAC, MWC or MAC team. I am not at least upset with UNT being deleted from this bowl......I am embarrased that UNT is in the worst possible D-1A conference in America with an equally dismal OOC record, with an admin that is complacently content with the direction of the program and still supporting a coach that has such a losing record.
  22. Aug. 8, 2006, 11:58PM Bomar takes a look at UH By RONNIE TURNER Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Former Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar, who was kicked off the team last week after it was revealed he violated NCAA rules, visited the University of Houston campus Tuesday, keeping open the chance he might transfer to the school next semester. Bomar toured the facilities and met with UH head coach Art Briles. Should Bomar, a redshirt sophomore, commit to a Division I-A school, it is believed Houston would be a strong possibility. Bomar is also considering Division I-AA school Sam Houston State. If Bomar transfers to a Division I-A school, he must sit out a minimum of one season because of NCAA transfer rules. That does not include the possible suspension he faces from the NCAA. Bomar was dismissed from the OU team after an investigation determined he and offensive guard J.D. Quinn had accepted compensation above the work performed for a booster. Bomar, of Grand Prairie, played in all 12 games (11 starts) for Oklahoma as a redshirt freshman in 2005, passing for 2,018 yards and 10 TDs. _________________ *************************************** "We will beat back the wussification of Texas if we have to do it one wuss at a time." - Kinky Friedman Do we know if UNT is pursuing Bomar and Quinn???....if not then our system needs a head check
  23. Dont be pointing your fingers at people who have made a mistake.......when you do that you point four fingers back at you.... Bomar would be a good fit, period. So what if he made a youthful mistake..... I am really not so sure if any of you could have not said NO to that situation. Let the kid play here......not unless you finger pointing "hypocrits" (i really say that in all love) can say that you have not screwed up at some point in your life when you were going to school...... If you can say that you never screwed up while you were going to school....then it is ok with me if you judge someone else. BRING BOMAR AND HIS ROOMMATE INTO UNT.......
  24. IMHO, for those who say, "NO" I do not want to consider Bomar and his roommate then take a long hard look at yourselves at the times you have been caught with your finger(s) in the cookie jar. Every time you point a finger at someone you are pointing four back at yourselves. The kid made a mistake and who is not suspect to temptation from time to time. Just because some do it and get caught does it make it right?? NO Just because some do it and get away with a few cookies does it make it right? NO Does everyone deserve another chance?? YES I once had a professor that told me that I dont care how many mistakes you make just dont make the same one twice...... People make mistakes....it takes a bigger man to accept someone else's mistake and go on with life.....
  25. IMHO, DD should go after Bomar & Quinn and after all the other BCS rejects.
