  5. As much as most of you would like to fire DD, IMHO, he is here for another year. UNT just aint got the money to get rid of him after this season. This will give PMG another year of posts on Jackson, DD, RV and the state of texas.
  6. The World Athletic Conference would put the shallow pocketed UNT athletics in a hole every year because: 1. not only would all the men's teams have to travel to BF west coast, including Hawaii but also all the Title IX sports teams. 2. it would be great for the women's volleyball, swim, soccer and tennis teams to travel to Hawaii once a year. If I were a student athelete that would probably sell me. 3. it would be economically infeasable for UNT athletics to survive for very long. 4. you may want to take a look at LaTech sports budget. I would think if it were not for Hawaii then the travel to the "left coast" would not be as bad as traveling to Florida. Fortunately, UNT is just about half way between the teams in the WAC and the SBC except for Hawaii. Is the World Athletic Conference better than the SBC from top to bottom in all sports.........yes. Is the C-USA better than the SBC from top to bottom in all sports........yes. Unfortately, until there is another "conference shake-up" UNT is where it is. Is it frustrating to watch other SBC FB teams out distancing UNT in FB.....yes....look at the latest ratings for MTSU.....#64. Also remember that NO SBC BB team has EVER made it past the 1st Round of the NCAA BB tournament. Personally I am looking at a "break out year" for the BB team. IMHO JJ has done a great job in recruiting especially those kids who transfered from Arkansas and Arizona. Do you remember seeing that "tank" sitting on the bench last year?? That guy has to be a great inside force.
  7. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt06.htm For those who hate polls and want to slam Saragin ---DO NOT READ THIS---.... This is just one poll out of the plethora of college football ratings/polls. At least UNT is ahead of SEVEN other D-1A schools.
  8. The FIU game was really a pretty exciting game......got to disagree.
  9. S.E. I would not get down on Mattress Mac (Jim McI___) because, at least, he has INVESTED BIG TIME into the program. What other ex-player has donated $1,000,000 into athletic improvements?? I would imagine that the BOR and AD could give you better answers. For all we know this situation with Coach Dickey may already be under review. Naturally, the BOR and the AD will not say anything until its time.....until then it is all speculation. However, in the case of the University of North Carolina coach, the university fathers let him know to make other arrangements after the end of the FB season. This in the case too of a couple of other OC's who have been doing a poor job this year.
  10. you are wrong.....we are already "toast."
  11. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...de.2885fce.html UNT is last in the SBC in scoring UNT is next to the last, by one point, in points given up. UNT is last in D-1A in yardage. According to Coach DD, "we made a few (more) mistakes this week." from the troy newspaper http://www.troymessenger.com/articles/2006...ts/sports01.txt box score for the game http://sports-ak.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?...12653&confId=37
  12. this topic has been run in the ground.......think of something new!!
  13. Sounds like another rumor to me for UTSA to move up that fast. 1. UTSA, IMHO, would stay where they are in the SLC in all sports including football. CUSA is maxed out in FB teams now. 2. Again, IMHO, UTSA would not just start up a FB program that would be immediately accepted into C-USA or any other D-1A program. 3. If something like this were to happen UTSA would probably remain in the Southland Conference before moving up to D-1A. 4. The SBC will add WKU next and probably a couple of other D-1AA schools before taking UTSA. This kind of like saying that the Big East is "thinking" about taking SFA.
  14. Question: What do Assistant Coaches make at BCS schools?? Do many of them make more as an assistant at a BCS school than what they would make as a HC in the SBC?? I don't know.......just a question.

  16. Click: grainy video http://blog.washingtonpost.com/offbeat/200...ght_on_tap.html this is pretty funny
  17. Other than the people on this board who sometimes tend to over analyze topics and stats.......will anyone ever remember quality wins that "any" team has over a period of time??? I believe that people have a tendancy to remember the "final" W-L for that year and the "almost upsets" and "upsets" that a team embraces. UNT embraces wins over Texas Tech, SMU & Baylor. UNT embraces the "almost upsets" over Texas, TCU & Arizona. The SBC is just what it is and we should come to realize that there is nothing that we can do to change it. 1. The SBC is the lowest ranked D-1 conference in America, today. 2. The SBC has the worst OOC record of "ANY" D-1A conference. Just like Joe Friday once said, "Just the facts (mam)." On the upside and taken from the www.ncaabbs.com web site from the CUSA board the SBC is currently 3-3, this year, on match ups. To the chagrin of CUSA they feel that the SBC is actually improving. But getting back to the topic......UNT's overall W-L record since 1999 is better than any other SBC team......non withstanding all the arguments on who has the better quality wins, total rushing yards, total overall yards, fewer interceptions and the plethora of other stats that there are out in the "books." The point is for what we currently have at UNT, since 1999, is better than any other SBC team in the conference. In my heart, and you know that I am right, UNT still has brighter days ahead. Unfortunately we just have to wait until something happens.
  18. If you take a look at each of the SBC schools disregarding FAU/FIU this is what we have since 1999 to present: Arkansas State................31-56 LaLa...............................26-58 LaMo..............................23-66 Troy...............................61-38 (granted for some of that time they were 1-AA). MTSU.............................37-48 UNT...............................38-51 We as a group, somewhat, may think that Dickey and staff are not doing that well but comparing the other schools in the SBC for the same time period......then UNT is fairing pretty well. In reality UNT is doing just as well as everyone else in the SBC when it comes to OOC wins......and......is about average when you compare UNT to the rest of the mid-major programs. Ok, we should be doing better since we are in the "hotbed" of college recruiting. Ok, we should be doing better because of what we did 25-50 years ago under various coaches. The reality is that "times have changed in college football" over the last 25-50 years. The reality is that no matter what should have/could have/might have happened UNT is in the SBC today and not the Big East like old conference partner Louisville or the CUSA like old conference "pards" Memphis and Cincinatti. We know that Fouts Field, without any changes and according to what RV said, was not a factor to keep UNT out of CUSA.....and.....evidently not a factor concerning the WAC invitation. Go back and take a look at UNT's record compared to the other members of the SBC and we do not look all that bad. UNT still needs a conference shake up for us to have a chance to move up to a better conference in the Mid-Majors. In the mean time fill the stands at Fouts and pack the Pit and watch Johnny Jones put the whoooooop on who he is playing.......there should not be any excuse for those of us who have season tickets in football why we should not attend every BB game in the Pit this year to boost the attendance and support JJ!
  19. You are still a young man.....get well soon coach. Our prayers are with you and your family.
  20. NTO3- #20 Boise State is in Idaho so there is some sort of appeal to play on the "Blue Field." You can make the same argument about Gonzaga (BB)on who wants to play in Spokane, Wa.. It too is kinda like in the middle of nowhere. Boise and Spokane are not hotbeds of recruiting for BB or FB but they do get quality players for their respective programs. Geographically, if you superimpose the state of Texas in those areas then they have a pretty good area to recruit don't you agree?? It's the program/coach that draws the players.
  21. Idaho from 2001 to 2005 was 11-47 with the best seasons in '03 & '04 when they went 3-9. I am afraid that UNT is not in similar circumstances. One interesting post on the LaTech board said that the LaTech program would hit an all time low if they lose to UNT. Like everyone who posts I hope we can acccomodate their wish.
  22. LaTech's posts are very similar to UNT's about getting rid of their coach. go in and read some of the comments. Very interesting.
  23. Click the little camera under the Title: The Memphis Miracle http://www.kait8.com/Global/story.asp?S=5540479&nav=menu67_5 Hail Mary Pass beats Memphis with ZERO time remaining.....amazing video.

  25. just another biased opinion of another local sports writer. He forgot TCU beat Texas Tech......he put Tech ahead. He forgot UNT beat SMU................he put SMU ahead. He forgot UTEP beat SMU..............he put SMU ahead. This guy is from Dallas.....what do you expect??? I would say that UNT is at least 8 or 9.
