  1. Trying to logically figure out what the NCAA is going to do is like trying to figure out a woman in menapause. Examples include the schools who get to keep indian names and NCAA sanctioned penalties for rules violations. Nothing that the NCAA does makes any logical sense to its members. We would all like to know who the "Don King" of the NCAA rules committee is.
  2. I am totally satisfied what Coach Dodge says since he runs the show. What I saw on TV with OU/NT and at the SMU/NT game Meager looks really looks impressive with his foot movement, looking at different receivers and the touch that he has on the ball. Face it folks he got that from somewhere and it ain't the tooth fairy. NT is only two games into this season and IMHO we have improved with every game under the new "spread eagle" system. The last thing anyone needs is some "knee jerk" reaction for every player that does not meet some poster's personal expectations. The "only" thing we need is for us to stand united behind the coach and his decisions on who & whom he plays. Like some other poster said recently is that Coach Dodge knows more about coaching and football than everyone on this board combined. Can we all stand up and say Amen?
  3. Dodge2007- Have you been out of the country since December 2006 with no communication systems?? Coach Dodge's system is pass oriented....and.....from your pathetic posts you have not figured that out, yet. Also, by the sound of your incessent hyperbolie you did not watch the OU/NT game or attended the SMU/NT game which "kinda" leads me to believe you have no earthly idea what the heck the coaching staff is doing. OU is just OU.....big, tough and fast. They not only whooooped us but got out a can of Oklahoma whooooop as*** on Miami. Presently, i am too frustrated at you lack luster post to go back and find the last time someone hung 50+ on the Hurricanes. Let me also remind you that SMU has been picked to win C-USA West. As far as Meager.....the best I have ever seen. Everyone who went to the SMU/NT game was just inspired. Our "O" line was really good but our corners were a little soft but played well. All in all our "D" didnt give up as many yards as SMU. Heck one pick was returned for a TD and another was around mid field. UNT had a great shot of winning and if we played SMU 5 more times this year we could probably win 3 or 4.
  4. DM's 46-64 for 600+ yards passing was fantastic. Everyone could tell that "someone" has been tutoring him along with the receivers. Meager was consistantly throwing the ball only where his receivers could make the catch then having the receivers make a play. One of the comments by coach stoops to his redshirt qb this year was, "get the ball in the hands of the playmakers." That is what Meager was doing consistantly. Meager's footwork on the field looked as though he was ready for dancing with the stars or he was imitating Mohamed Ali --- float like a butterfly & sting like a bee. DM was definitely looking at most of his receivers and "not" had his mind made up, prior to the snap, who he as going to throw to. If "C-Fitz" is consistantly getting open most of the night get the ball to him so he can make the play. This may not happen for every game but "C-Fitz" gave the SMU corner "fits" all night. How would you like to be burned for 300+ yards in one game?? Of course when you throw 64 times in one game intangibles are going to happen like offensive line breakdown, missed assignments, interceptions and dropped passes. having three interceptions when you throw 64 times, to me, does not seem too unreasonable at this early stage of dodgeball. Coach Dodge already stated that our situation will "only" get "better" and it will. For those of us who attended the game, definitely, we saw a different game than those who listened. For us to attended we saw a great deal of confidence and a winning program that will happen under dodgeball, period. Got to agree that our defense needs to step up and like the oklahoma game our corners still looked a little soft against SMU but our "d-line" looked really good. We all know our coaches are working on improving the "d." Let's pack the house on Yom Kippur......that is on September 22.......make sure ya'll wear your green skull caps to the game.
  5. i am really excited about coach dodge and how the team has improved. these guys just do not give up. meager is the best that i have ever seen him, he looks comfortable and has a great touch on the ball. yep, he threw a couple of interceptions but when you throw that many times you have go to expect it. the receivers dropped some balls they should have caught but so did smu. our receivers have some great hands and really get into position to catch the ball. it is one thing to listen to the game on the radio or a feed but to see what really happened ya gotta be there. this team will only get better and this is the time to congratulate them and get behind dodge ball.

  8. Lifer- i respect your comments but at the same time these types of comments, "IMHO," religate nothing more than envy and distain. this post is trite as continued DD bashing and being smug enough to go on the USU board and bash the man again. This borders on being invited on the Jerry Springer Show for your 15 minutes of trailer trash fame. as far as HF and how SMU treated the man ..... dude ..... that was over 30 years ago ..... heck 90% of the posters on this board were not even born when HF got fired.....if that is one reason you hate smu then you should have a love - hate relationship with them. personally, i disliked how ntsu booted out prez jitter nolan, how ntsu left the fate of the ntsu football program in the hands of the students which took us down to d-1aa and various other athletic blunders which amount to a great deal more distain of why i hate ntsu/unt more than i hate smu. i know that this is only a friendly little blog to kill some time until saturday night. Read SMU's posts on their board and notice there is really no difference in their university pride and unt's except that most of them have a better command of the english language than some of our posters.
  9. why do you insist on another "why i hate smu" post??? don't you think this gets a little old after a while trying to stir up some sort of class envy? grow up! if you really think they are better than you then they are and that makes you with an inferiority complex. my suggestion.....go see dr. phil.
  10. "Just about" everyone will have to admit there were bright spots in the defeat to Oklahoma. Watching the game on TV, UNT did have these positives against the #8 team in the nation: 1. Our defensive line against an OU's offensive line that was about 50-60 pounds heavier looked solid. 2. Meager looked confident and threw the ball really well (15-27) with a few dropped by the receivers. 3. Vizza had some snap on the ball and was confident running the ball. 4. UNT did not give up and kept trying to move the ball down the field. 5. UNT has another excellent punter. Great hang time. 6. Special teams looked good. What looked like glaring defiencies to me was the play of the cornerbacks and safeties. It appeared that anything to the soft corners and deep was "big" yardage. Anyone can "nit pic" the positives that I cited but for a casual observer looking at the game objectively UNT just can not complete with these types of programs, yet. IMHO, UNT will be able to compete with the other mid-major programs in 2007 and we should all look for massive improvements to the next two games against SMU and FAU.

  12. UNT @ OU?? Just curious. I would entertain any of her comments to get her true feelings.
  13. Coach Schnellenberger's comments about Coach Dodge appears to be a bit aloof. Coach "S" had to be reminded which team TD coached?? Coach "S" said that TD's ways are counter to what the SBC does??? Coach "S" thinks that hiring HS coaches take away jobs from former or existing college coaches????? For one, I am excited that TD is pumping new excitment into UNT's athletic program. As for Coach Schnellenberger's comments I have to remind myself that he was once was an excellent coach and probably still is but a bit too crusty around the edges and not too acceptable about new meathods. I predict our former HS coach will defeat this former national champ coach on 9-22-07 at Fouts.
  14. who has the easiest? who has the toughest?? heck if i know.

  16. UNTflyer, What I meant about Meager starting the season and Vizza finishing the season is Meager departing games with concussions. Perhaps PMG, GreyEagle, Buford Julep or someone who has seen games over the last 30-40 years remember one of NT's QBs who have had as many concussions as Meager?? I do not remember, specifically, any one of our past QBs who have had as many concussions as DM and I have only seen games since '66. My question, like others, is DM (if selected as the starter) going to physically hold up to the regular punishment a QB receives during the game or games without sustaining another concussion(s)? We all do not want to see DM receive concussions that would impede him for the remainder of his life, physically or mentally. The other point being made is that Meager is older and has more college football experience than Vizza. Coaches will say the only difference between high school, college and the pros is the speed of the game. Vizza appears he is adapting quickly to the speed of the game from various reports of practices and may see "mop up" duty in the OU game.....and I hope so because I would like to see the kid play.
  17. Meager starts as QB against OU but Vizza finishes the year. With Coach Dodge's offense it appears that he wants his QBs to get the ball in the hands of playmakers ASAP and not have the QB's scramble on broken plays. Naturally, Meager would benefit from not experiencing so many concussions throughout the year. No matter which QB Coach Dodge chooses to start it will be the right choice and we should stand in unison with the Coach, the team and the QB. Remember, there are three former QBs as coaches on the UNT staff and they as a whole have "a great deal" more insight than us based upon working with the player, watching the practice films and as Jimmy "The Greek" once said the intangibles. Heck, if PMG had one year of eligibility remaining and was secretly working out with the team and Coach Dodge picked him to start against OU that would be acceptable to me just as much as if the Coach picked www.woody.wilson.beat.the.stangs.com or Tune or Meager or Vizza. My point is that whoever Coach Dodge selects will be the right choice.

  19. This is Coach Dodge's program and if he only wants player's parents at Saturday practice then that is the way it is. As dedicated football freeks that some of you are you will have to get your "high" somewhere else on Saturday before the season begins. Perhaps you, medpilot, and ffr can take his cannon in the country and shoot squirels for the next two Saturdays.
  20. http://www.star-telegram.com/college_sport...ory/200111.html good article but you have to scroll down to see the stats on 2006 conference wins by BCS/non-bcs/1-AA
  21. you guys remind me of these guys. too much rumor control.
  22. case in point....just take a look back at the offense lines that Odessa Permian (MOJO) had in the 80's and 90's when they were going to state on a regular basis. These guys were 40-50 pounds lighter than their oppenents. They key was concentrating on blocking and tackling. IMHO UNT will see the same in the Coach Dodge era. It appears that Coach Dodge and his staff are concentrating on disciple in these areas, according to the reports some GMG guys who have personally witnessed early scrimmages. I am also impressed with Coach Dodge installing a sense of pride, disciplined work ethic and a winning tradition attitude into the players.

  25. FYI: 1. The last two years of Coach Dickey's tenure UNT lost nine games by a touchdown or less. 2. The average point total per game the last two years was 13.5 points per game. 3. UNT is essentially playing with the same player as we have had the last two years. QUESTION: Does anyone really think that with a 4-3 Defense and a spread offense that Coach Dodge will only put up an average of 13.5 points per game? Granted that Coach Dodge is installing a new offense but what an offense he is installing. ALSO Coach Dodge has installed MOTIVATION - DETERMININATION - GUTS. IMHO, Coach Dickey recruited some really good players but conversley I do not think they played to their potential. FWIW, with a few calls our way along with a couple of lucky bounces Coach Dodge goes 8-4 (L: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Navy & Troy)with Vizza finishing the year. The worst that I predict is 6-6 (L: OU, Ark, SMU, Troy, MTSU & Navy).
