  1. can we recruit like Alabama??? Matt Simon thought so and said it after one of his recruiting classes.........
  2. IMHO, UNT has more in common with Tulsa, UTEP, Rice, SMU, Tulane and Houston in CUSA-West than we do in a rehash of the old BWC of NMSU, Idaho, Boise & Nevada...ect. Heck UNT is already in a rehash of the old SLC of La-Mo, LaLa and ASU. Personally, I believe UNT should wait for an invite to the CUSA. Not this discussion again.

  5. stebo- i am glad we are on the same page and i dont own a playstation either. best regards.
  6. stebo- i appreciate your comments but i have been attending NT games since 1966 and as a fan have endured a roller coaster of players, coaches and various schemes. i have never stated, hinted or proposed recruiting criminals to the program but have only advocated being patient with who we have because as a fan Todd Dodge is the "REAL DEAL" for NT. T.D is not someone who will stick around for a year or two, not recruit anyone and bolt or get fired at the whim of the NT BOR because of various reasons that Old Timer, PMG, Silver Eagle and Buford Julip would know about and would give you "valued" insight. my only point, which some of you, who claim to be "long time" watchers since 1992 is that, as fans, we have to be patient with the new schemes and play that TD is bringing to UNT. Some of you who "think" they speak for the majority only have a knee jerk reaction for a solution. let me remind you of some coaches who had losing seasons in their first couple of years before they built winning programs. V.Lombardi, B. Wilkerson, H.Fry, T.Landry, J. Johnson, T.Dodge and i could probably name a few more but you know where i am going. Let me remind some of you that Playstation does not equal reality. Reality only equals reality. Todd Dodge is the REAL DEAL so be patient.
  7. gangrene- really? Mike Leach copied his plays from playstation....?......now i know you are an informed and indepth expert. logic will only tell you it is the other way around, einstein. my posts have never hinted at me being nothing more than an informed fan instead of a quasi-expert like yourself or another expert in playstation.
  8. more coaches are going for it on 4th down. in this case senario UNT was behind and without much hope of winning.....however.....the UNT "D" could have staged one of the greatest comback victories in our history, who knows. some of you people do not see the "big picture" as Old Timer has .... who has attended games since the 1930's or 1940's. Our current football staff have forgotten more than what some of you "arm chair" QB's will ever know, except on "Playstation." let the experts (UNT coaching staff) do what they know how to do best....coach..... and you (arm chair qb's) do what you do best ( Playstation).
  9. IMHO most of us will have to totally agree with OldTimer and PMG.

  11. I have been attending NT games since '66......longer than some of you are old. After watching the good years with the bad and the rebuilding process that accompanies coaching changes I will have to admit that I, for one, am impressed with "all" of this coaching staff and their long term goals for the future. Individuals who have only attended games for five or ten years, or maybe less, certainly do not have the perspective of watching rebuilding, new schemes from the "O" or "D" when coaching changes occur, or the quaility of players being recruited that either stay, become injured, become academically ineligible or just quit. The consistant change presents too many intangibles and rotation of players for us to imagine as fans. Thank goodness it is left up to the coaches to sort through who gets to play and why, who gets limited time due to injury and the list goes on. As excited as everyone on this board was to get such a recognizable coach and the quality of assistants in such a short time we, as fans, should be more excited and supportive of their efforts. I am because I see the quality in just about every aspect of what Coach Dodge wants and will do for NT. I remember driving through Stanton, Texas one year and outside of town there was a billboard that read, "Stanton, home of 10,000 (or so) friendly people and a few 'ol soreheads." During the last few weeks the "soreheads" have expressed their unmitigated opinions, unfairly toward the NT coaching staff. Some of you people remember when NT was in the Big West and would beat Boise State? Boise found an excellent coach who stuck with the program and developed a winner. Coach Fry was not that sucessful the first year at NT. Some, if not all of you "soreheads" would have fired Coach Fry. President "B" and RV have hired, IMHO, the best coach since Coach Fry. Coach Dodge, like Coach Fry can recruit and play an exciting brand of football that "will" produce wins, recognition and possibly a new stadium and a conference change to the program. Give these coaches a chance to show what they can do. Heck, even your current employers had to endure some of the gaffs that some of you did and possibly should have been fired for. Don't be so eager to point the finger at someone because when you do you are really pointing four fingers back at you! We all saw pretty close to 20,000 supporters of this program Saturday night against La-Mo and now a handfull wants to try to dominate this board and print "vile" statements that, IMHO, should not even be dignified by response by the coaching staff. Just a reminder......the handfull of posters that print discouraging statements toward the football staff do not represent the thousands of people who respect, support and pull for the football team and that includes the Univ. of Mizzu coach (from his comments in last week's Fort Worth Star-Telegram) stating what a great coach TD is. In a democracy we call this a landside vote of support for "all" of the NT football staff.
  12. http://www.star-telegram.com/college_sport...ory/264254.html Great article and praise for Coach Dodge.
  13. ok....here are my five positive thoughts: 1. True Freshman Vizza looked really good in his first college start after the first 20 minutes. Got to expect some transition from high school to college. 2. The Offense looked really good. 3. Take away "five" offensive plays by LaLa and the "D" did not look all that bad. 4. The game "was" televised.....that was something that TCU did not have. 5. Each week UNT is getting better. As an observation NT had chances to win the games against SMU, FAU and LaLa and that makes me optimistic about the future. IMHO, next year and definitely two years from now Coach Dodge will have one heck of a team with "HIS" recruits. Ya'll will have to remember that Coach Dodge only had "17 days" to recruit last year because he was busy winning "another" high school state football title. Ya'll be patient with the coaching staff and all the "crap" about firing people and doing web sites to promote disent among others. To some of us who have been around since the mid to late 60's and have watched NT football ya'll sound abit like your going through puberty...........I don't know but some of you probably are.
  14. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/foot...h.ap/index.html How many times has some sport's coach heard this? It is almost like your supervisor calling you from the personnel office for a quick meeting.

  17. DB29-- I take it that you have spoken to all the defensive players and you are just regurgitating what they have said to you in private or in public?? If you have spoken to the defense who have you spoken to and what have they said?? If you have not spoken to anyone just state that too and preface your comments instead of trying to start another false rumor. DB29- I say this in all respect: "Be responsible to what you say."
  18. Old Timer & PMG excellent points. The last thing we need from anyone is the knee jerk reaction. Everyone should stand behind TD and his winning ways.
  19. some of you people would complain if your grandmother was on her death bed getting ready to leave you one million dollars. TD has transformed DM into one of the nations better passing QBs. --just take a look at some of his stats on ESPN. I am not going to post it but just look it up. --how can you complain about his immediate improvement?? --DM is completing 65% of his passes and that is probably better than 110 other D-1A QBs. --DM, after three games when most D-1A teams have played four games he is in the top quarter in passing yards. --even after the three interceptions in the FAU game UNT was still in the game. I do not have to tell you getting two blocked punts was not DM's fault. Those blocked punts led to 14 FAU points. --UNT has one receiver in the top five nationally and another rated about in the 40's nationally. Evidently TD's system of "moving the chains" and "getting the ball into the hands of the playmaker so they can make something happen" is working. --TD is a winner and knows nothing but winning and putting together a winner and that includes DM. --too many of you have the perverbial "knee jerk" reaction and want some sort of "hail mary blessing" to change our team to what OU has overnight. TD is doing the best he can with what he has to work with and personally I think he is doing a great job. --the SMU game could have been ours. --the FAU game could have been ours. --have patience and let TD and his staff mold us a winner from what he inherited and the recruits he is bringing in. --nobody in their right "college educated" mind can put all the blame on DM but in the three games that I have seen him play he is doing a great job. --in the mean time some of you who like to get together in your little sewing circles and have cheese and whine ya'll can continue to do so but I am still "pumped on watching the steady improvements" that TD is bring to UNT football. --in the mean time I need another fix of sausage on a stick and some more of those boy scout hot dogs and a coke.....and.....that sounds a lot better than cheese and whine.
  20. Too many people are rushing to malign D.M. early into the season instead of supporting him like T.D. and the rest of the football team and coaching staff. Too many of you forgot what DM did in HS much less what type of system he played the last two years. UNT has a new coach, system and schemes. Unless some of you just crawled out from beneath a rock today you can not logically compare DM's performance at OU to anything logical. OU did to USU and Miami what they did to UNT and Miami kicked the Aggies hind quarters pretty bad last night. The SMU game could have gone either way but DM threw for over 600 yards. Now he is 3rd in the nation in passing yardage and ya'll are saying he is a bad QB?? By some of your comments I can only conclude that some of you did not go to OU or watch the game on TV much less drive 30 miles to SMU to watch UNT. Some of you are going to have to remember that you either attend or have graduated UNT and should have some form of college level logic instead of junior high emotion. Many of us "trust" T.D.'s ability to train, shepard and recognize talent in QB's ..... why??? because he was a QB, has two other former "talented" QB's on his staff (just read their bio's), has held QB schools in Texas (just read about them) and look at his w-l record. That is why TD is coach and some of you eat cheese with your whine and illogical blogs.
  21. IslandEagle- I was able to help the pizza guy by getting him the scholarship, he needed, to finish his Ph.D.
  22. Coach S is predicting FAU may have 42 points by half time?? Wow. This game really will be a shoot out. Hope it turns out like the Utah State game 10 years ago.... 51-48....there was probably 500 people watching the game.....probably like 2,000 realistically. That had to be one of the most exciting games I have seen along with the OT victory against FIU last year that went into 20,000 OT's. I ordered pizza at the beginning of the first OT and by the 4th OT Pizza Hut had it hot and fresh at Fouts ... now that is customer service.....BTW the guy who delivered the pizza wore a SMU hat.
  23. CBL- Interesting post but all this comes down to who has the "best" regional appeal? CUSA-West has the best regional fit than any other mid-major conference in the nation including the SBC. Do not get me wrong I enjoy watching UNT play anyone but I could get "more" excited about playing SMU, Houston, Rice, UTEP, Tulsa and Tulane every year. CBL- I would imagine you would probably find no deviance in your "stats" if you compared the SBC/CUSA with the MAC.
  24. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/sortables?st...07&group=80 This is interesting.....UNT #3
