  1. ok lynch mob-- if you were watching the same games i was then: 1. OU & Ark........no chance...just outclassed...............not fault of Mendoza 2. SMU...............too many INTs in the 2nd half and one INT back for a SMU TD & special teams allowing long run backs......not fault of Mendoza. 3. FAU...............two blocked punts by our endzone leading to two easy touchdowns.................not fault of Mendoza. 4. LaLa..............INT in endzone and two other INTs......cornerbacks could not keep up with speedy WRs.........not fault of Mendoza. 5. LaMo.............cant remember 6. Troy..............no offense and defense had 7 turnovers with no offensive response..............no fault of Mendoza. 7. MTSU............we just got outplayed. 8. NAVY............once in a lifetime scoring game with one INT in endzone, offensive holding in endzone and subsequent TD off free kick......not fault of Mendoza. Lynch mob, 1. What I have seen is our offense and special teams are creating too many mistakes allowing the opposition to score. 2. The other thing I have seen is our slow & flat footed corners not responding fast enough........not fault of Mendoza for inheriting these slower than average kids. 3. It appears to me that even though we all have seen the same games we are getting different perspectives. Some of you just look at the bottom line and there is not a thing wrong with that perspective.............HOWEVER.............none of you have pointed out some of the faults of the offense throwing INTs in the endzone, throwing INTs that went the other way for opponents TDs, the blocked punts by FAU and MTSU that led to TDs from all within 5 or 10 yards or all the break downs of the special teams allowing the opposition to just run through NT like crap through a goose. I am afraid I do not see where any of this is Coach Mendoza's fault. 4. Until the Navy game NT had far more INTs than TDs. NT could have won the SMU game if it were not for the mistakes of the offense. NT could have won the FAU game if it were not for the two blocked punts by our endzone. NT could have won the Troy game if we had some offense off of 7 turnovers by the defense. NT could have won the Navy game if it were not for the offense and special teams. In all respect to the Lynch Mob why don't all of ya think about what mistakes that the offense and special teams have made that have led to the demise of our offensive point production. Again I say that there is a BIG difference between the time off the clock passing verses running the ball. Of course NT did not have many fumbles and INTs under Coach Dickey under his controlled run offense.....but guess what......this ain't Coach Dickey's team anymore. Ya'll running around who are the judge and jury should take a look at the WHOLE picture.....(offense, defense & special teams) before you lynch Coach Mendoza. What is happening ain't all Coach Mendoza's fault, period.
  2. My final comment on this topic................ It took Coach Fry a year or so to turn around our program and when he departed North Texas to go to Iowa he took Bill Snyder (OC) and Bill Brashier (DC). It took two years to rebuild Iowa into a winning program that they had not had in 20 years. Ya'll expected some sort of miricle with the arrival of TD. Realize, just like Coach Fry this program will be turned around by TD's staff and just like Fry at NT and at Iowa rebuilding takes time. Finally, the scores would be closer IF: 1. Our QB's would not have thrown so many interceptions in the endzone. 2. We would not have had so many safeties. 3. We would have had so many blocked punts near the endzone. 4. If the special teams would not have allowed runbacks for TDs. Now factor these offensive and special team gaffs into the equation and we may have won a game or two more and had closer scores for the other games.
  3. NT80- read CR1028's comment. FFR- read my post.....I said some may "POSSIBLY" be playing hurt.....who knows unless you have spoken personally with TD or the team doctor. I am at Fouts Field watching the same games you have this year and have been watching them since '66......and these defensive guys are slow. I see the big difference with more opposing teams running around our tackles and running past our corners and safeties. Personally, I think the defensive front four look like they did for the last three years. But if you notice, and you see the same games I do, teams are not running up the middle too much against us this year......they seem to run around the corners and run past the corners and safeties. Yea, sometimes the opposition busts one up the middle for big yards but they did that the last three or so years. For ALL of you I still respect your comments but disagree with some of your opionions.
  4. vvz28- I never bashed the UNT defensive kids....all I said was that we have sub-standard talent on defense.....they are a step or two too slow. That is my opinion. Yep, we are going to get more points scored against us when we don't eat up the clock like Coach Dickey's run, run, run offense. To me and others it does not take too much football knowledge that when you pass as much as we currently do the other team is going to have more time to score. I feel a little embarrased to tell you that because I know some of you are college graduates. If Coach Dodge ran the ball as much as Coach Dickey's run offense we all know the scores would be lower but that is not the game plan that Coach Dodge has brought to UNT. We have a bunch of "TALENTED" freshmen on both sides of the ball......18 & 19 year olds that are pitted against 21, 22 & 23 year olds and they are doing a magnificent job out of high school against seasoned college players. We have a bunch of defensive players that still had teams run through them last year and the year before last.......that everyone was complaining about...... vvz28 you can not honestly believe that there is NO difference between our having a run oriented offense and the same defensive players and currently a pass oriented offense and our current player and have the same results? All I see if that the opposition's offense is much faster than our defense. As far as the adjustments that the "O" and "D" makes at half time.....I am sure that there were some for Coach's Dickey DC and Coach Dodge's DC. All that I ask everyone is to be patient with "ALL" the coaches because these guys are going to be as good as if not better than Coach Fry's coaching staff. Oooops, that was 30 years ago and probably not many of you were around to see that transition.....most of you just grew up watching Dickey Ball and have no reference to the past except what is posted on this board. Trust Coach Dodge he is the real deal.
  5. Ok I will bite......again. Have you ever thought that the defensive talent we have is sub standard and not the fault of Coach Mendoza? Two years prior to Coach Dodge, teams seemed to be running through our defense and ya'll wanted to hang effigies of Coach Dickey. Personally, I think it is the lack of talent that is on the defensive side of the ball. Two years ago and last year all I heard was derogitory comments about why can't we stop the run and pass. This year the same 'ol gripe. Someone wrote about how easy it would be to stop the triple option because all you had to focus on was the QB, FB and TB (and possibly one receiver who caught all the passes). That is like saying how easy it is to get electricity because all you have to do is flip a switch. IMHO, the "triple option" is a little more complicated than focusing in on three players. There are 22 guys out there being pushed, blocked, deceived and tricked into uncompromising positions. But I am sure all you X-Box wizzards and Madden 08 wizzards know all there is to know about that. Personally I see our defense woes as a lack of talent and possibly some of the guys playing hurt because we have no depth on defense. Remember after UNT was called for holding in the endzone and the free kick and that 5 foot something running back jetted through the middle of the line for a touchdown. From where I was sitting three of UNT's back players were caught flat footed, saw the back coming 10 yards away and could not turn around fast enough and much less come close to catching the Navy runner. Dudes and dudettes, to me that is just pure and simple LACK of talent. IMHO our corners play soft because if they played any closer to the line they would get burned faster than where they currently play. Lack of talent. Seems to me this is the third year or so that we have had this problem on defense.....lack of talent. Ya just can't make a Yugo into a Mercedes overnight guys and the problem is talent and lack of depth. Ya'll will point to the number of points that teams have put up against us verses the last couple of years. One: Most of it has to do with the offense Coach Dodge is running. Passing does not eat up the clock as fast as run, run, draw play did. Two: Lack of talent, no depth, possible minor aches/pains/injuries. Three: Evidently there ain't no defensive speed on defense.....and IMHO that is why the opponents wide receivers and tight ends are 10-15 yards beyond our defensive backs when they catch the ball. One Navy receiver said that the one thing he admired about our defensive backs were how clean the back of their uniforms were as he ran by. You could fire Coach Mendoza today and get the best Defensive Coordinator in the world tomorrow and you know what? 1. We still have no talent 2. We still have no speed 3. Coach Dodge is still going to chunk the pumkin 40-50 times a game (slowing down the game). "Remember when you throw you use up less time than if you run"......Dickey101. Personally, I think Coach Dickey knew what sort of talent he had and that is why he ran the ball so much so he could keep the game close going into the 4th quarter to win the game. Am I right or wrong....I can't remember how many times I read it in the paper and heard him say it on the radio. Coach Dodge has my full faith in turning the program around on "O" & "D." Support the team and "ALL" our coaches because this is the best bunch that I have seen since the Fry era and we all know where those guys ended up. IMHO we are looking at the same thing 30 years later. If this board was up and running 30 years ago ya'll would have already run Fry and his staff out of town. Be patient ..... we have the makings of a great staff. Besides, Coach Dodge would have not brought Coach Mendoza if he were not any good and I certainly for one respect Coach Dodge's ability to see talent and utilize good talent. I trust Coach Dodge and him bringing Coach Mendoza to UNT.
  6. http://www.universityrelations.und.edu/log...er_6-07-06.html There was an article in fort worth startle-gram a few months ago about Univ of North Dakota being given a two or three year extention by the NCAA on protect their mascot name: Fighting Sioux......not to be confused with Gene Autry's song Sioux City Sue. vvz28, I would like to plagerize one of your favorite talk show hosts and tell you that you are a great American. I will have to agree that this whole "political correctness" is de-balling this great country: 1. why do we have to press 1 for english in America? 2. why do my tax dollars support birthing illegal aliens in America? 3. why are 90% of warrants in DFW for illegals? 4. why are 83% of warrants for murder in Phoenix, AZ for illegals? 5. why are 75% of the "most wanted" in L.A., Phoenix, Albuqurerque are illegals? 6. why are 60% of all occupants of HUD properties illegals? 7. why are 43% of all food stamps issued in America are to illegals? 8. why are 58% of all welfare payments in the US issued to illegals? 9. why is less than 2% of illegals picking crops and 58% on welfare? 10. why is 62% of all illegals in the US not paying taxes? unfortunately the list goes on....anyone can go to just about any site and get these same stats Oh yea, mascots: the ncaa should never have gotten involved. another case of the tail waggin' the dog. one day the dog will wake up. europeans used to say the same about china in the 1800's.

  8. look at the bright side.....we covered the spread, i think, for the first time this year.
  9. Sun Belt football has been evolving! More teams are running the spread and putting up more points than what we saw under the Coach Dickey era on run, run, run and run. Naturally you put up less points on a run oriented Dickey style offense and that is what UNT fans have seen over the last ump-teen years in the Southland, Big West and Sun Belt conferences. Everyone is going to have to face the fact that our defensive woes are not the fault of the Defensive Cordinator but the fault of the quality of recruits under the Coach Dickey Era. Coach Dodge stated when he accepted the coaching position and was asked about his high school attack that he was implementing he said it was a "plan." Not a high school plan, not a college plan and not a pro plan.....just a plan. So some of you who still believe Coach Dodge is running a high school offense and defense may want to make an appointment with coach's Dodge and Mendoza and tell them how you can make his plan work better with all your years of "couch potatoe armchair QB" experience. You can have the best and most popular schemes that other successful school have but IF, and it is a BIG IF, you do not have the players then it ain't goin' ta work. So this fire Coach Mendoza talk is a bunch of crap. UNT needs better defensive players. That is the bottom line. UNT is in the Sun Belt not the BCS and unfortunately takes a bit more to recruit the players you need to play in a conference where you have D-1AA conferences ranked higher than the Sun Belt. Generally, it takes longer to rebuild a "Mid-Major" program than, just reloading talent in a BCS program like Ohio State, Michigan, Texas and the like. Navy has be BEST #1 rushing attack in the nation and UNT's defense is one of the worst. Give our coaching staff time to recruit what we need instead of posting knee jerk reactions that are not well thought out and are sophmoric in nature. I thought that this game was going to be high scoring and believed we would see 90 points on the scoreboard after the 4th Quarter and whoever had the ball last would win. No reasonable person hung effagies of Coach Mendoza after Oklahoma or Arkansas because we expected to get spanked. Now UNT was faced with the "TRIPLE OPTION" that we have not seen in 30 or 40 years and had two weeks to prepare for a team that runs the option to perfection on some of the best teams in the nation. Even when UNT faced the "triple option" in the past we got our "clocks cleaned." I only say that because there are probably only a few who post on this board who have actually watched UNT against triple option teams......but then we were not throwing 40 -50 times a game in a "spead eagle" ( whoever coined that phrase .... thanks ) offense. FWIW, I am excited to see the progress of the Coach Dodge Era and get more excited to see the recruits (offense and defense) that he is bringing to UNT. JayDub, in all honesty you will have to be a little patient with the defensive players that Coach's Dodge and Mendoza inherited from the Coach Dickey Era.

  11. Has there been any official announcement that the Navy game is a sell out??
  12. Unfortunately certain sections of our society have implanted, in a generation of families, that we are all "VICTIMS" and therefore not responsible for our actions. Not too many years ago you would hear someone say, "Look, I made a mistake and am sorry.....can you forgive me?"
  13. 90 points will be scored Saturday............
  14. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/foot...n.ap/index.html We will expect Dr. B. to do the same when UNT beats Navy......that is cancel Monday's classes.

  19. NT does not need the same type of problems that traditionally plagues schools like Miami. Take for instance the bench clearing brawl at Dolphin Stadium against FIU two maybe three years ago. NT does not need a "hood" culture in any of our programs. Fortunately for some life is about order, rules and philosophies that are Biblically based. See examples in the Magna Carta, U.S. Constitution and other western european constitutions. Without rules of law we have anarchy. Sounds to me the kid got upset and went mentally overboard. I wonder how many of these types of allegations are nothing more than allegations without substance. Playing the race card should be more embarrasing to the kid than anyone else. I hope this is quickly and dutifully resolved ASAP.
  20. ok...... my prediction was 8-4 with NT looooooosing to OU, Ark, Troy & Navy. However, I truely believed that the MTSU game would be a shootout along with the Navy game. Am I disapointed? yes Am I over it? yes Do I see a vast change in coaching philosophy that will be benifical for NT in the future? yes I am excited about the future? YES. I am particularly impressed with the new recruits.....these guys are good and am waiting for NT to put it all together in one game. We are all seeing bits and pieces of something great unfolding before our eyes each week. It is kinda like one of old PMG's 1960 something all "steel" car hitting on 6 of 8 cylinders and a clogged fuel filter. Once PMG puts his tender lips to the fuel filter and blows to clean it out and goes over to the Weatherford airport and midnight rescues some aviation gas to juice up that jalopy then we are going to see some exciting football, TD style. My prediction for the last four games: Navy..........this will be a shootout kinda like Navy's game against Delaware. Whoever scores last will win. Arky State..we win only because we are improving. WKU...........we win because I just believe we have better talent at this point. FIU.............we win and this game will not have to go to 7 overtimes. I say we go 3-1 that last four games with the probable loss to NAVY.

  23. We all know that the conference "shake ups" are not through.......and probably never will be. There are always bloggers who have "rumors" or "the word on the street." NT just has to be "athletically" ready to have the facilities, attendance and possibly a little discretionary cash to make the move when the next "shake up" occurs. We can speculate all we want and arbitrarily make our own "dream" conferences and discuss would-have, could-have and should-have but in the present state of affairs there are plenty of excellent mid-major teams that are not being invited to other preferable conferences. --In the present reality some speculate that Troy will be invited to CUSA because of their record. --Some say Memphis will move to the Big East. --Some say Southern Miss wants to join the SBC. --Some say USU will drop down to D-1AA. --Some say Boise will be the next invite to the MWC. --Some say TCU will be moving to a BCS conference. --Some say the WAC will join with the SBC when Hawaii moves to the PAC 10. --Some say Elvis now attends Portland State University games. Instead of worrying about all the what ifs that are "not" occuring today or tomorrow why not just get behind RV and support all of our teams. Because in reality the "only" aspect of this change, as fans, we can change is donations and attendance. Let the athletic staffs of all the departments worry about recruiting and winning. I trust that TD will give us a winner at Fouts but he can not do it overnight. He did not do it in one season at SLC but he did produce a consistant winner. TD knows what it takes to win and win consistantly and in my feeble little mind that is good enough for me.
