  5. GEO- IF.....IF.....IF.....I would much rather be in a conference with Texas regional schools than what we have currently. We all know conference "shake ups" will happen and to "guess" to what schools are going where is, at best, conjecture and prolonged topics of a plethora of "what if" scenarios. Personally, I would like North Texas to get into CUSA only because of the regionality of teams that, IMHO, would draw larger crowds. Houston, Rice, UTEP, SMU along with Tulsa and Tulane makes more sense than LaLa, LaMo, Troy, MTSU, ASU, FIU and FAU. Besides, CUSA has more NCAA bids in FB and BB. Bottom Line: UNT Prez GB appears to be very pro-active on NT athletics. What other NT prez has attended as many FB & BB games as she has since her arrival? Bottom Line: NT has to be ready to make the jump.....facilities, $$, attendance, and a committment to win. Unfortunately, we have not a clue what "politics" are "played" behind the closed doors of athletic realignment & I certainly hope we are playing a winning game in that arena......which probably is the largest aspect of conference acceptance.

  8. "Spud" Webb was a legitimate 5'6" (or so) and could dunk the ball....in practice and during the game. "Spud," also won the NBA Slam Dunk contest one year...maybe twice. I saw him play several times when he was at Midland J.C.. North Texas had a chance to hire the Midland College coach (i can't remember his name, now) who had won several J.C. national championships and wanted to bring most of those guys to NT if he was hired. NT went for Newsome and the Midland JC coach ended up as the coach at UTA. He coached a year or two and had some sort of nervous breakdown and was released from his contract. short players that have done well at NT: Joe Hamilton.....about 5'8" or 5'9" Josh White........about 5'10" please dont post Randy Newman's Short People song.
  9. cmj- no problem.....i hope that is the worst mistake you make this year.
  10. cmj- i never said unt did not win consistently under coach Blakley. i said he was exciting to watch and especially the DePaul game to a near packed pit. BJ converse point concerned this years VMI team, which is leading the nation in scoring, and coach Blakley's UNT teams of the 80's which lead the nation in scoring. the point being is VMI's current 15-13 record to UNT's 20 game winning records of the 80's.
  11. BJ- touche', those Blakley teams were exciting to watch......especially we played DePaul to a near packed house.
  12. we could be VMI.....averaging about 93 points per game, leading the nation in scoring and only be 13-11.

  18. as close to accurate or inaccurate as predictions for classes may be we will find out by the end of december who did better. i was impressed with last year's class of recruits that t.d. aquired in the three weeks that he had to recruit. when was the last time UNT landed eight three-star recuits in one year?

  22. This is why it is imperitive that the United States Congress open up ANWR (in Alaska) and all the other fields that were put off limits, in the 90's, and build a few more refineries to handle the reserves. Without new refineries the U.S.A. will be just as dependent upon foriegn oil and foriegn refineries as today. United States refineries are at capacity, not only with our oil, but also with the reserves in Venazuela because the type of oil grade that is produced in Venazuela can only be refined in the United States. How ironic is that?
  23. Everyone has to realize that Basketball Jones has not been playing with a team that has been 100% (or close to that) for the last month or so. 1. Wooten has had knee surgery and IMHO has not been playing, even 75%, of his capability. 2. White has suffered from a pulled hamstring, concussion and the flu. 3. Other team members have suffered from the flu. Prior to all this bad luck UNT did extremely well........ The team record may not be what we currently want but the real test will be in the tournament when, hopefully, Basketball Jones and Company, will win the SBC and since there "may only" be one invitation granted, to the SBC for the "Big Dance" it is imperative that Basketball Jones has ALL his players healthy. We should all respect the care he gives to his players and their subsequent rehabilitation. I respect Basketball Jones for that. Hopefully Dale Brown will be with him again come tournament time.
