Recruiting: Interest Versus Offer
eulesseagle replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I would much rather have a player that has had "take it or leave it" offers from VT, UT or KSU than various offers from LaTech, La-Mo or SFA. -
The new "Pit" was to be built for about 5-6k but thanks to Prez "Jitter" Nolan (the really first pro-active athletic prez) we built a state of the art, at that time, BB arena. We can also thank Prez Nolan for getting funding for many of the buildings that NT has. IMHO, Prez B, is NT's second pro-active athletic president. Thanks to Coach Trilli we got those awful orange colored seats out of the Pit......someone must have been about ready to go into drug rehab when they thought that one up. wider seats in the Pit? why not narrow your a**? As far as other BB venues Ohio State ..... you can fit the PIT inside this arena. They have a large "alumi" band at one end of the court playing & even dot the "I" at half time. Louisville........ was an exciting place because you can buy booze and watch the game..... Houston......... you are right about a circus tent atmospher. TCU.............. another circus tent atmospher. SMU.............. I knew I was going to get mugged in that place. Rice.............. Autry Gym....well that says it all. Next to the Old Snake Pit one of the most exciting places to watch a game; stomping-yelling-ear splitting. UTA.............. Millions for education and not a cent for athletics. Should that be the other way around? NMSU............ Pretty cool place as I can remember. NTSU............ The old Snake Pit.....#1 during the Coach Spika era.......Best Game: double OT win against Drake, Second best game was Louisville after the year their coach said North Texas fans were "the worst in the nation." Third, any game sitting next to BJ and our rowdy friends. I have a great deal of respect for JJ and how he has rebuilt the BB program and how Coach Dale Brown supports him. It would be a great loss to NT if we ever lost him to a bigger program.

Does anyone have the breakdown of the Redshirts who will be playing next year??
-
Name me one D-1A team that: 1. Starts as many freshmen and sophmores as NT? 2. Has so few players (similar to FCS, formally d-1aa)? once some of you can figure that out then post. quoner....please dont say mtsu and ask someone to look up the facts.
-
Nt has 12 seniors. Nt is "PLAYING" with one of the youngest teams in D-1. Nt is, also, "PLAYING" with about the number of players as other FCS (formerly D-1AA) teams. Tina brings up an interesting point on all the other teams with the approximate amount of underclassmen.....however......HOW many of Tina's teams, that she listed, are "STARTING THE SAME AMOUNT OF FRESHMEN AND SOPHMORES" as NT?? (maybe SMU) That is NOT in Tina's report......however......other fire td "jumpin' off the ship rats" thinks that this is a "fair" comparison? yea right......analyze that tina. ______ another point.....how many of the same teams that tina is mentioning is playing the "SAME" number of players as Nt? tina is just throwing out stats.....like the brown stinky stuff and hopes that it will stick......IMHO, it does not stick it just stinks. BTW, i am going to be giving away crow........i understand it taste just like chicken......SE may have some local reciepts.

SE- another quote from the article: "I stand 100 percent behind the decisions that were made in the past by our AD and president [Gretchen Bataille]," said UNT Board of Regents member C. Dan Smith, a former player and one of the athletic department’s ranking advocates, via e-mail. "I have every confidence in the decisions that may be made in the future concerning our football program. As fans we all have opinions, but very rarely have all the facts." now the obvious question to you, SE, and all the other fire td bunch...."do you have ALL the facts?".....because you certainly have opionions.
-
excellent quote from article: "This didn’t happen overnight," said Lettermen’s president Lance White, echoing what he called a prevailing sentiment. "The issues we have today were created the last five to seven years. People close to the program realize those things

The NT defefence is getting better as CR1028 posted. Only those who read the box scores and the articles in the paper (vito et al.) can only be poisoned by their biased opinion. IMHO, the last several games showed a vast improvement of play and the team coming together.....the ASU game was a great game (O & D), despite the cold. eulessismore, if you would like to see a newly created special teams only coach.....where is NT going to get the money????"bailout $ from congress??
-
for those who want to compare NT to other BCS programs and want to imulate these programs then get ready to ante up "umteen thousands of dollars to "reserve" your season seat (singular) then get ready to pay another umteen thousands of dollars for your season ticket. for those who want to compare NT to other BCS programs then start lining up hundreds if not thousands of "annual" $300k+ donors to the athletic dept.. dudes.....NT is in the SBC.....a realatively poor stepchild of a conference compared to other programs when it comes to $$$. If you would like I will be available to hit anyone over the head with a 2 by 4 to wake you up out of whatever fanticy land you are in. BTW.....please don't think because you can beat Ohio State, Texas or Oklahoma, for the national championship, on your X-Box or Madden 2008 that this is reality.

from OldTimer's post: pay raise would be ok with me......look at our recruits in the TD era.....better than anything I have ever seen: ____________________________ OT's post: Saying we can't commit against big name schools.......are you joking?........Look at our 08 class In 07 we won only 2 games yet in Feb 08 recruiting we had signed LOI from recruits over the following big time schools: Lance Dunbar chose Nt over offers from AzST, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Virginia, OK ST,Colorado and Missouri Troy Franklin chose Nt over offers from Tulsa and Colorado state Willie Taylor chose Nt over offers from A$M and Tulsa Desmond Brigham chose Nt over offers from Arkansas, Missouri and A$M Coleman Feeley chose NT over offers from Baylor, UH, Rice, SMU and UTEP Kylee Hill chose Nt over offers Tulsa and Northern, James Hamilton chose NT over offers from SMU, UTEP, Tulsa, Kentucky and New Mexico State John Shorter chose NT over offers from SMU, TCU, Iowa State and Tulsa DeWaylon Cook decommited from SMU and chose Nt over offers from TCU, KST, Utah and West Virginia Justin Edwards chose Nt over offer from SMU, TT, TCU, KS, Tulsa and Ole Miss ADryan chose Nt over overs from Tulsa, Kansas, KSt, OkST and A$M Jeremy Phillips chose NT over offers from Rice, Baylor, Duke and Army I didn't count Riley Dodge (with 5 offers) because of his relationship with his father. If I remember correctly we had a higher rated recruiting crop over SMU and TCU according to the experts in 08. Our 09 recruits include one Anthony Charles a 3* JC LB over offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Fresno State and South Florida In 09 we are recruiting DT (the hardest position to recruit because the big schools stock pile them (with 9 or 10 DT's on their squad) ...see separate post on this...) against the biggest name schools around..and are still in the running for several of those...I believe we will have a good recruiting season once it is over...despite our two year record. ________________________________________- Evidently, TD and Co. have something to sell for this struggling program, is getting quality recruits and seems that some of you are oblivious. NT has an excellent coaching staff.....just read their bios on the NT website. NT still has the youngest if not one of the youngest teams in D-1. If some of you want to get rid of TD & Co. then start scrapping up your $$ and buy out his contract and hire a multi million dollar coach on a muli-year contract. If you want to compare TD and the NT program compare him, first, with the rest of the SBC schools then, secondly, with the rest of the mid-majors and their subsequent programs..........but............by all means you can not logically compare NT with any BCS program. If you start comparing NT with anything other than the first two qualifers then ya'll need to stop grazing on mushrooms along the side of the road and get back to reality. OldTimer...........excellent post.

it is a good move on RVs & TDs part.

so lonnie you just want to buy out TD's contract and roll the dice on another coach?? hahahahahaha so who do you plan on getting??? perhaps another june jones for an easy million per year??? perhaps an unproven assistant from some big time program??? perhaps you and all the other "get rid of TD" numbnuts can get together and scrape up enough cash to pull this off. In the mean time I support TD and so do a lot of other alums who see the excellent recruiting they have done. Heck, NT is loaded with excellent freshmen and sophmore talent. Just refer to OldTimer's above post.

"He hasn't helped recruiting" are you joking here? There was a post on the FB forum that NT would never have a quality program without better quality recruits then goes on to say we won't be able to obtain quality recruits until we have a new stadium and higher quality players....is that an oxeymoran? I don't count TD's 07 recruiting class as he had less than 30 days on the job but wound up with some quality recruits Jesse DeSoto, Sam Dibrell, Micah Mosley, AJ Penson, Kyle Russo, Giovanni Vizza and Cam Montgomery. Saying we can't commit against big name schools.......are you joking?........Look at our 08 class In 07 we won only 2 games yet in Feb 08 recruiting we had signed LOI from recruits over the following big time schools: Lance Dunbar chose Nt over offers from AzST, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Virginia, OK ST,Colorado and Missouri Troy Franklin chose Nt over offers from Tulsa and Colorado state Willie Taylor chose Nt over offers from A$M and Tulsa Desmond Brigham chose Nt over offers from Arkansas, Missouri and A$M Coleman Feeley chose NT over offers from Baylor, UH, Rice, SMU and UTEP Kylee Hill chose Nt over offers Tulsa and Northern, James Hamilton chose NT over offers from SMU, UTEP, Tulsa, Kentucky and New Mexico State John Shorter chose NT over offers from SMU, TCU, Iowa State and Tulsa DeWaylon Cook decommited from SMU and chose Nt over offers from TCU, KST, Utah and West Virginia Justin Edwards chose Nt over offer from SMU, TT, TCU, KS, Tulsa and Ole Miss ADryan chose Nt over overs from Tulsa, Kansas, KSt, OkST and A$M Jeremy Phillips chose NT over offers from Rice, Baylor, Duke and Army I didn't count Riley Dodge (with 5 offers) because of his relationship with his father. I post OldTimer's earlier post ..... excellent research by OT..... to indicate the excellent recruits that TD has taken from other BCS programs. I truely believe that Coach Dodge will continue to out recruit other mid majors in his endeavor to bring, once again, respectability to NT. As bad as the football program was when Coach Dodge took over he has, undeniably, out recruited other NT coaches from the past 40 years. Unbelievably to some.....these players need another year of development and still more unbelievable to other Coach Dodge is our coach of the future and needs to stay. He is committed to win, the players are committed to win, Coach Deloach is committed to win and RV is committed to win with TD. great post OldTimer!!

I was impressed with the total team effort today. The offensive line looked strong and was able to push ASU away from the line of scrimage. The defense played its best all season and looks as though it is becoming a unit. After sitting through all the home games except one this team has gotten better game by game. As for those who only read the sports articles or only look at the box scores it is obviously difficult for you to see, first hand, the improvement. Coach Dodge is playing with one of the youngest teams in school history and yes NT only won one game this year but has an "excellent" nucleus for next year. I have 100% faith in Coach Deloach and his defense for next year. He was the architect for one of the better defenses that UNT had under Coach Dickey and was hired away by UCLA......which did beat top ranked USC. Now Coach Deloach is back and we can all expect that our defense will improve with the added year experience of the freshmen and sophmores. Our coaches have a lot to sell the new recruits about our program and I have 100% faith that Coach Dodge and his staff will bring in another excellent recruiting class. For anyone to sell this program short has swallowed too many "poison pills" that has, IMHO, obscured your judgement or you just have not attended the games and to look at the team objectively from week to week. There is much more to observe than a sport's writers article and just looking at statistics in the sport's page.

SE- I have been watching NT football for almost a decade more than you and that does not make me an expert. I have never had a coach yell in my face while sitting in the stands......cuddos for that one "hot dog." I believe everyone is fair game too......but........the incessant, trite and same 'ol...same 'ol negative "daily" posts get a little tiring. Do you agree or no? It is almost similar to the boy who cried wolf.....after a while nobody pays any attention. I support the program 100% and will be at the ASU game Sat for the 1pm kickoff. Look for me I will be wearing the color of the luck of the Irish.
-
am i mistaken or has this gomeangreen forum turned into the old scotty's board? for those who do not know what scotty's board was......it was all those individuals who posted negative comments about the program. we all get really tired of the daily trite posts on how you: 1. think the program should be dramatically better by now. 2. think TD should be replaced. 3. think the DC should be the new HC or leave. 4. think RV should fire TD or resign. 5. think the sky is falling. 6. blah blah blah blah blah....... just man up and get behind the program 100% including all the coaches & RV because TD was not hired to loooooooose.
-
I wish Coach Dodge and the rest of the coaching staff the best of luck in getting the players they need for his third season and thank him for all his work this year. I am behind the staff and the team 100%.

what happens if this moot post goes away?

Another knee jerk reaction post. What did TD have when he arrived at NT?.......nothing. I think everyone was talking 3 years to start to rebuild this program. Now the general concensus is get rid of everyone??? What did Coach Deloach have when he arrived at NT?......evidently nothing other than a nucleus of talented freshmen and sophmores. NT could not RELOAD like so many other schools do. TD is openly recuiting some of the best players in Texas which is something that our last coach could not do.....remember "stealth recruiting?" My faith in both the HC and DC remain high as ever.....as well as.....the other coaches to get the job done. NT still has a relative young team....give them time to grow. In this age of "instant gratification" you can not become a winning program by a click of a mouse.........football today, as it has forever has been, takes years not mega seconds. Be patient.
-
1. everyone got all excited about coach Deloach......has that excitement subsided now?? 2. last year everyone got on the firing of our DC. 3. has it occured that TD inherited a really.....really.....really bad team? TD has recruited better than anyone since Coach OM. When you have so many frosh and soph playing, evidently, because they are better than the current Jr and Sr.....that should tell you something. Rebuilding takes time and the coaches we have are very very good.
