GG, nice article. However, if decisions in the football world as well as the real world were based solely on statistics we would be living in Nervana. Unfortunately, decisions are made with money and politics which NT has virtually none of. Denton sits at the apex of the largest inland megolopolis in the United States and Ruston is in comparison the Petticoat Junction of the two. Look at some of the successful programs that are in the middle of "B.F. somewhere." Do I believe that the "new" Fouts Field will improve NT's standing in the Metroplex? Of course. Will the "new" Fouts Field bring in more Metroplex alums? I hope so but time will tell. Look at SMU and how their, I guess you could call it a semi-new stadium, has responded to their metroplex success. Not too much attendance when they are in the "L" column but since the arrival of Coach Jones attendance has increased. You can almost say the same for TCU. New stadium vs. old stadium. Winning brings in the fans.

Realignment basically comes down to two very main points.....(1) who has the political pull and (2) who has the money. UNT has neither. Never really had major political influence and never had any money for athletics as evidenced by the number of major head coaches NT has hired. Other than Fry what major college head coach has NT ever hired? I hate to say this but better get used to playing in the Sun Belt for a long time. Going to the games are fun and exciting no matter what conference we are in. Heck, as a kid I always thought the "Roo's" of Austin College was as exciting as football got. To me, for a while, that was major college football.

This is interesting..... http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/news/article.aspx?Feed=OBR&Date=20100722&ID=11733771&Symbol=ACF Glad to see that the Arlington, Texas based AmeriCredit is being purchased by GM as their sub-prime lender. If you think about it.....the sale is tremendous for AmeriCredit. Heck I bet their stock (ACF) will soar.

http://www.ponyfans.com/schedule/ that SMU plays. Nice OOC schedule. It would be nice if NT could get more regional match ups.

eulessismore, depends if you believe that "equality" is "inequality"....or.... if inequality is equality. 46 years into the Civil Rights Act I believe the injustices of the past have been righted and the bloated federal bureaucracy that it created should be dismantled. Will there always be racism? of course and no government can regulate this in the United States or elsewhere around the world.
-
____________ Evidently not......I really think you do not have a clue what is happening by your own statements. Your bios on your family are a little feeble to say the least on defending your point. Who cares what your family did or does? The point is that the Greeks are in serious financial trouble and all they want to do is riot and have cheese with their incessent whine. I once visited Greece once and not to sound critical they were a bit lazy and so said the same with tourists from other European countries.
-
All of Europe has the welfare state mentality. Greece has it the worse. Pick up a paper or look on various web sites & notice the "riots" in Greece. Why are they rioting? They want more entitlement money for retirement, they want to work less for more pay & now the country can not sustain the financial burden. Greek credit is basically .... junk. Portugal, Spain & Italy are in the same boat but not as bad. Their current birth rates are not sustaining growth to achieve more or the same entitlements. The only groups that are having positive rates of growth that are double to triple the countries growths are the Muslims. Not too far behind these European countries is the United States. As far as the original topic I am surprised this has not headed to court. But since all measures are political and for the most part the American people are left out of the loop does this surprise anyone? IMHO, political equality via the ballot box is of little use when you compare it to social/economic inequality. Case in point the '64 Civil Rights Act.

e-more, nobody said we did not want additional improvements for safety or otherwise. it is too bad that good men had to die on the rig but all things considered "stuff" does happen with anything than man makes no matter how many safety nets are installed. rigs will leak oil, planes will fall from the sky, your car will break down but do you really want the government to micro manage every detail? i think not. glad to hear progress is being made on the leak.

Drill more. We can not stop oil/gas exploration/drilling because of far and few between accidents just like we can not stop or place more regulations on cars for their accidents and trains, planes, playground/recreational equipment, baby cribs, and the list is endless. Once we have banned or placed draconian restrictions on everything because of safety then we go back to living in caves. Crap happens......crap happens every day.....live with it. Nobody does it intentionally. Do I think what happened is bad? yep.....will it effect the environment? yep, for a short time...but the good thing about where we live is that the environment will get over it too.

Could The State Of Louisiana Close Some Schools ?
eulesseagle replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
IMHO, it is inevitable that all states will have to come the conclusion to drastically cut state spending to survive. Some people and the economy will suffer now but if out of control spending continues it will be worse. Kinda reminds me of the old Fram Oil Filter advertisement, "you can pay me now or pay me later." -

All In Favor Of Socialism
eulesseagle replied to UNT90's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
We already have socialism in the USA. We have the richest poor, in all the world, on all our social financial programs...no wonder they don't want to work...no wonder we are flooded by illegals who see a financial gold mine. A banker friend of mine cashes Social Security checks up to $2500 - $2600 a piece for illegals who know no English and only present their Mexican Consulate I.D. Cards. On a side note...if the United States imposed the same restrictions and punishment for illegals as the Mexican governement there would, probably be less crossings and more out cries from American liberals. We subsidize all our transportation, tell educators what and how to teach, pay the poor not to work but vote democratic (see paragraph 1), own the banking industry & getting ready to bail out Greece (yep, as I have been saying all along I knew the American people would come to the aid of Greece just like we did when this administration help bail out some of the other European banks on the first bailouts), getting ready to own insurance, agriculture...., foriegn aid up the yazoooooo. Over the last year and a half or so months their has been an interesting shift in European politics. They, as a general group, have been shifting more to the right. I guess you might say conservative socialists but it has been a move to the right. I think Greece has been the final wake up call with Spain and Portugal not too far behind. England just elected a Conservative .... whatever a conservative is in a socailistic country......Germany has been riding a conservative government....Italy has been riding a small wave of conservatism, lately....but the Italians could swing totally the other way tomorrow and another way the day after that. I think it is in their genes. not to confused with jeans. My point is that while this Admin like past administrations have been going socialist since Wilson, more so under FDR & LBJ the "European socailist model" is in meltdown. Too many people on their "government rolls" and negative population growth brought on by various factors. The only group, in Europe, that is growing are the Muslims. Europeans are at around 1.1 - 1.2 growth (as i remember) and you need something like 1.4 children per household just to maintain growth. The Muslims are at about 4-5. Why are we headed toward socialism? A friend of mine son...who now is a British citizen and works for the government said...."we are still trying to find a model that works." The United States is too far along to go back toward democracy. Everything that is being said, now, is toward "Global Governace." All you have to do is read what is being said by the various governments including ours. One world government.
