  1. I'm going to go ahead and still blame Mendoza. And Joey Byerly. I'm resistant to progress.
  2. Just browsing over some threads, I have learned that we should never run the ball between the tackles, never throw a pass shorter than five yards, and recruit a class made entirely of linemen. I see your point.
  3. I know I am fearful of a terrorist attack on a small school like this one. I say that because smaller schools usually do not have as much security personnel, and are usually farther away from law enforcement centers that could provide help. It would still accomplish what a terrorist would want, to shock and sadden our country by attacking our children. I am not saying what Harrold is doing is the answer to that concern, but it is a fear of mine along with a school bus hijacking.
  4. Wow, Favre never jerks around his team with an annual retire or not drama. This is very newsworthy, I'm surprised we aren't hearing more about it.
  5. Davis led the team in scoring for four seasons, rebounding twice, steals once, and assists three times. Johnson led the team in assists twice. Davis is the #2 all time leading scorer, and Johnson had the best single season for assists. Johnson's teams were much, much better, so you have to give him a lot of leeway for that when it comes to comparing statistics. However, even with that considered, the difference in statistics is too much to overcome. My dad told me stories of Johnson long before I ever saw Davis play, and I know he was worth the price of admission with his quickness and playmaking ability that fit perfectly with Blakeley's style. Johnson is deserving of the honor, and probably will be inducted one day, but looking over the list of basketball players that have been inducted, I don't see any that I would put Johnson over, including Davis. This is nothing against Johnson, but we are talking about the very best players the school has ever had, which is different than a fan favorite from the glory days. While Johnson is more than that, and will probably make it to the hall on the strength of the teams he played on and his assist numbers, it should not come at the expense of Davis, in 2008 or in 2013 (when Davis would have been graduated for 10 years), or any year in between.
  6. You might want to ask some questions about the tight end position such as how much more often he will use it, what zones of the field or down and distances could we see it, and what kind of personnel will be in that role, someone who only gets reps there or a player who primarily plays another position, and what kind of role the tight end would play in the passing game as a receiver.
  7. I am sure Deloach's system has the flexibility to line up with three down linemen, either with a hybrid position or by personnel. I just think that if your weakness is up front, you wouldn't want to be pulling a down lineman away. To stop the run, you have to control gaps, and going from 4 to 3 up front would only be giving more responsibility to your weakest position. If you have four absolute studs behind them with size, strength and speed to control gaps and play football, or if you have a bowling ball for a nose guard that may or may not wear #92 and dominates both A gaps with ease, then that would be a different story.
  8. I think all three were locks as well, and anyone who knows me at all knows there is no bigger Kassell fan. However, I agree with Grand that if you were to make the statement that one of the three is most deserving, it would be between Davis and Marin. The thing to remember is that Kassell was the football player of the three and the vast majority of members of this site are football focused with only infrequent passing interest in other sports, so to this audience, Kassell is the headliner.
  9. An all time great without a doubt who deserves this honor.
  10. I have player that may have been overlooked in the secondary, little known walk-on Eleanor Rigby.
  11. So he just stood and watched during a play and then a teammate knocked him down? I haven't seen that happen since Madden '96.
  12. You and I thought the same thing. When I read the post asking why it had not been done before, I pictured DD outside the Union chain smoking and dropping f-bombs while he addressed his student group on that week's game. Come to think of it, that would have been much more entertaining than Dodge's polished upbeat approach. Clearly, RV blew a golden opportunity when he had one.
  13. I was way too into my own team in February to pay too close of attention to national signing day, and I just realized when I was reading DCTF that we signed the Vernon QB. I saw Vernon play Snyder at Shotwell last season, and Williams was very impressive. He did not have amazing stats for that game, but you could tell he was an athlete that translated to the next level. I think this will be a good signing.
  14. Where did you get this from? Just curious.
