AAC Basketball team evaluation from a hoops perspective
MDH replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Basketball
That's a sniff test analysis at best. I agree, OOC is a good gauge but not the only. -
Can the AAC exits nudge (pay) the remaining C-USA members to join other conferences by giving them $ to play road games in the future? We really need G5>G4 consolidation. Exit fees propping up a conference only to call upon schools that shouldn't be in FBS is senseless for the greater good of FBS football. NMSU, FCS call ups to C-USA thanks to our exit fees are dumb.
-
I don't like spending $ because we have it when there may be something better to save for or spend on. I don't think SP holds us back in any way like Fouts did.
-
Boise, Fresno, San Diego, Nevada, Utah st have all been ranked multiple times and beat P5 in football and basketball so frequently it’s rarely a headline as an upset. As someone who has been to multiple MWC stadiums and multiple New AAC stadiums there’s a fairly large gap in attendance and talent in the top programs.

Fresno st remembers

I think other directional schools having found success (UCF, USF) have helped shake the negativity towards this. Boise State, Fresno State, Coastal Carolina aren't exactly sexy land grant names either.
-
With small samples you can't really use averages, especially with outliers such as KU and UTA. I still wouldn't use avg here but removing those 2 gives an avg of 96. The median is 90.5. Long story short: we've got some tough OOC opponents.

Feels about right given our roster losses. Saved you all some work: CUSA ahead of us: 76. La Tech 80. UAB 85. WKU 127. UNT CUSA behind us: 133. Marshall 152. UTEP 160. ODU 169. Rice 177. FAU 193. Charlotte 212. Southern Miss 230. UTSA 241. Middle Tennessee 281. FIU

After topping Illinois and Memphis we have the highest probability of them looking past us rather than being their super bowl.

football wouldn't be much better. The argument is that MWC raises our recruiting profile. To the extent it doesn't....might not be pretty.

CSU would surprise me given the perceived lateral move by just about everyone. CSU really likes playing USU, BSU, and has a long rooted rivalry with Wyoming as Laramie and Ft. Collins are just 65 miles apart. But, they may be trying to appease their fan base after spending lots on their new stadium, only to remain in the same conference.

American targeting MWC Powers Among Others For Expansion
MDH replied to UNTcrazy727's topic in Mean Green Football
Fargo is farther from most of the mwc than Denton is. But you might be right in that they’d look there and Sodak st, but there are some strong regional rivals they’d be giving up. -

I hear that - the one thing the western states lack are back-fill. If Anyone were to leave the MWC, FCS is your only option, and there's a very big difference between Big West and MWC schools. If you held a gun to my head...Montana? Montana State? I really don't know who could come up from FCS out west. -

I'm Fresno born and bred, parents taught at Fresno St, and a big time Bulldog homer outside of these message boards. Fresno St has always been a program that's had hugely bright spots in many revenue and non revenue sports but they have very limited marketability outside of the central valley. There's very little probability for either of those schools (SDSU too) to move anywhere else. The western half of the US has one premier conference (PAC-12) and they'll never be allowed in to that club. Many MWCers would rather poach to make their conference stronger than leave to go elsewhere. There are many that see what UTSA has going and are fairly open to their joining. I agree that I'd want no part of an MWC that lacked Fresno, SD and Boise, but I just don't see where they go. There was a small chance of them joining up with AAC in the past, but schools such as Houston always had their sights and priorities set on the big 12 and they didnt want to jump to a conference where there were others with conceivable in-roads to greener pastures. -

Current MWC>re-aligned AAC...why would the stronger MWC teams jump? The WAC-16 expansion is still on the minds of many MWC members and jumping in to a conference with even more eastern teams would be a non-starter. -
If they go 16 AAC is dead. The remnants join up with SBC and CUSA in a larger conference you'd think? Big blow to SMU's ego, but they'll be unhappy regardless of picking up what's left.
-
UTSA, La Tech, Rice, Marshall are all ahead of us given SMU, recent history. I think our best hope is that we pair up with UTEP and head to MWC. Assuming the 2-3 of the schools come from C-USA, I want no part of what's left behind.

Hypocrisy???
MDH replied to NT93's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Hm, yes and no. Here in Colorado, pre-covid, the lowest (or at least some of the lowest) general vaccination rates within the state were in Boulder, which is about as crunchy granola Liberal as you can get. So there's definitely a contingent on the Left that is historically anti-vaxx. I believe COVID has caused some of them to come around on the issue, but the hold-outs in that community still exist. -
Don't forget Tech, Ok St, most other B12 teams.

Love seeing the number of our guys playing on Sunday keep increasing. We had a very bleak stretch from the time I started at UNT (06) until a few years ago.
-
So some wealth and power redistribution might be in order?
-
We have to bite our lip and root for SMU to bump up if we have any hopes of movement ourselves.

Add Colorado to the list of future UNT opponents.

This Denverite is excited - I'll be sure to host a tailgate when the time comes. Also excited for our future trip to Laramie to play WY.
