ODU may not be done: MTSU could be replacement?
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Not trying to start a fight either... But defeating Todd Dodge puts you guys in a very elite fraternity of college football programs known as F---ING EVERYBODY THAT EVER TOOK THE FIELD AGAINST HIM. Throw in McCarney's first game to close out that 5 year run of wins, and I can't say I'm dazzled by that run of success. If you guys manage to do it again, though... That would actually be proving something. -
I think Cooley has had his tongue planted firmly in cheek for some of his recent posts. Just like KRAM and Lifer occasionally working blue, or Harry and Evan going all Howard Stern on the podcast last night... It's very entertaining.

If you go to the "View New Content" option, there's a faint yellow button to the left of the topic names. That takes you to the first unread post. That's how I've been navigating the forum. -

I wouldn't be too sure... Could be wooing a potential Chris Jones insurance policy. From what I understand, Chris was in good academic shape until Fall finals... If he has a bad set of exams again and can't get eligible, we're going to need someone to fill his shoes to make the most of next year's talent. -

Who do you see as North Texas' future rival in CUSA?

I'll be shocked if that goes away.

If we get an auto-bid, we won't be in a first round game. I believe that's an NCAA guideline in seeding the tournament... All the play-in teams for the 12 and 13 lines are the final 4 at-large teams. We might, assuming a very good year, get a 12 or 13 seed and face a 5. History says you've got about a 1 in 4 chance of winning that game. If we somehow manage to put together the resume for an at-large bid (and in a year where the Belt will be playing 20 conference games... that could be VERY hard), then it'll probably also be a 12 or 13 seed... But likely in a first round game like UNT90 mentioned. In any case, winning an NCAA tournament game is hard as hell. I'm desperate for the day it happens for our program. But being capable of doing it and actually seeing it happen are 2 very different things. Man, I'm really being a downer today... Sorry, everybody. Here's a puppy basket to cheer everyone up:

I definitely think our attendance problems are solved. Now that we've FINALLY: moved back up to D-1 gotten into a conference where we can establish ourselves as a program gotten rid of that failed experiment of a high school coach gotten out of a western conference and into one focused in the south won our conference championship made it to a bowl game had a winning season won a bowl game had multiple winning seasons gotten the national publicity of a NCAA rushing champion had some players drafted into the NFL recently won a game against a BCS opponent gotten the publicity of ANOTHER NCAA rushing champion scheduled some football games against SMU ditched that surly coach and his boring offense brought in a coach who has the respect of the Metroplex installed this pass-first system that Mizzou got from our head coach scheduled these home games against service academies seen the level of play of our conference mates start rising gotten rid of that failed experiment of a high school coach (TAKE 2!!) brought in a proven D-1 coach with a history of building a program started advertising games and ticket packages on television opened that fancy new stadium MADE IT INTO Conference USA!! ...I think we're going to see people REALLY take notice and see our attendance skyrocket! Good morning, sleeping giant! I don't mean to sound negative, because this CUSA move is a great thing for us and I'm very excited about it. But in terms of building up our attendance, it's a nice series of bricks to add to the structure we've been building. Not a magic bullet that will solve everything with one shot. And it seems to me that many of our fans have been fantasizing that every new development is going to be The Magic Bullet that Makes Us Relevant. We're in a conference with better public recognition and history. That's good. We're playing our conference games against teams that more casual fans (not totally casual fans... but *more* casual fans) will recognize by name and potentially respect. That's good. We're playing more schools within a half day's drive, so that we can forge rivalries and competitive relationships with fans we can visit in person (and who can drive to visit us) when gameday rolls around. That's good. We're in a conference with schools that might have more substantial alumni bases around DFW. That's good. But anyone who thinks this move is going to solve our attendance problems is going to be disappointed. People are not likely to flood the turnstiles to see (hypothetically) a 3-7 North Texas team face a 1-10 Tulane team. Anyone who thinks we're going to start selling out our stadium or watch our attendance bump by 10k a year because of this is going to be as angry and frustrated as all the people who thought that our alums and Metroplex neighbors would come out in droves just to see architecture last year. It'll help, some, right away. And it will put us in a position to help OURSELVES a lot 5, 10, 20+ years down the line. But this move isn't the solution to our attendance problems. Also, SPOILER ALERT: If and when the day comes that we ARE selling 10-12k season tickets and practically selling out Apogee every Saturday... Many if not most people here are going to be angry as hell about what that means for the fan situations to which we've all grown accustomed.

I expect we'll do 19 to keep it even. 12 round robin in-division, 7 alternating home and road year to year against the other side.

From a football perspective? I love this move. Love it. My biggest complaint about the new CUSA was that UTSA's 1 year of FCS football history made their addition seem almost comical. Now, our new conference leaders have added UNC-Charlotte, which has absolutely zero history in the past 65 years as a football program. Suddenly, from the football perspective, UTSA doesn't look so bad anymore! I have to tip my hat to the forward-thinking conference leadership here. I'm glad we've left behind the Sun Belt, where 3 non-D1 teams moved up to join the conference in the past decade, to CUSA, where 3 teams will be doing it currently and simultaneously. That's bold. That's aggressive. If I'm ESPN or Fox, that's the sort of football I want to pay out the ass to broadcast. And outside of football, I think this is even better. If there's one thing we've learned from the decades in the Big West and Sun Belt, it's that schools starting up football programs NEVER let their focus and financial commitment towards all other sports waver. Not even a little bit! That's fortunate, because with 14 teams fighting it out for each auto-bid in every other NCAA sport... Those at-large slots will be very critical. At least it's not the Sun Belt...

Could Jamail Jones potentially come to UNT?
TheTastyGreek replied to H-towngreen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The only thing I know about him is his Rivals ranking and that he's leaving Marquette. With us full up on 2012 ships, I haven't really been doing anything other than looking ahead to next year's class. If something goes poorly with Forrest Robinson, I'll definitely start looking up everything I can find on Jones. -
The pictures are a weird changeover from the prior software. We all used to be able to have different profile pics and posting avatars. I know that you, me, Quoner, CBL, and a few other people have had their usual avatar automatically replaced by whatever was the profile photo. If I can find the old picture of Krieger from "Archer", I'm switching it back in. As far as the custom title... That one predates me and AAUNT. I have no idea where it came from (or who applied it), but I've always liked it. Looks good on ya.

April 27-20 GASO Shootout Schedule and info

His family seemed very nice. We didn't get to see him much directly, but the guy he vaguely reminded me of did end up as a D-1 signee. Definitely let us know if he's able to bounce back from his injury and get into better physical condition. -

JJ is (was?) absolutely beloved at these things. Before we could even get in the door, the guy who sold us our wristbands started talking about JJ and how much he's going to be missed around here. But then he had some very nice things to say about Benford. During the games, people would see us in North Texas gear and strike up a conversation about how much they liked Johnny Jones and how sorry they are that he's not going to be our coach anymore. Benford was only there for 2 games (that we saw him watching). He was totally locked in on the Mustangs. He seems to be very popular among the assistants. After his arrival, there was practically a receiving line of guys coming over to say hi, shake his hand, and (presumably) congratulate him on the new job.
