  1. We should never, ever schedule a school perceived by our fans or the general public as 'below us', either in the conference pecking order or by any other criteria of prestige. Meanwhile, every other athletic program 'above us' should do the exact opposite. And play us at home.

  3. A grand total of 5 ranked teams (in the AP poll) lost 6 collective games on their home floor to OOC mid-major (meaning, sub-Mountain West/A-10 schools, including CUSA and WCC) teams last year. Vanderbilt lost to Cleveland State in their 2nd game, 1st week of the season (ranked based on preseason evaluations at the time). They lost again to Indiana State a few weeks later. Pitt lost to Long Beach State in game 3 of their season. Pitt was also still on a preseason ranking, and they wound up being pretty terrible and unworthy of the preseason hype/ranking (5-13 in conference). Cincinnati lost a shocker to Presbyterian in game 3 of their season. They promptly fell right out of the rankings and never got back there again. Preseason ranking, couldn't sustain it. Murray State beat Memphis halfway through their run at an undefeated season. Oral Roberts beat Xavier when Xavier had to play without 3 starters because of their on-court fight with Cincinnati in the previous game. The trick to beating a Top 25 team in their house seems to be: 1) Play one that doesn't actually deserve the ranking, sometime within their first 2 or 3 games before they get exposed as unworthy. 2) Goad one into a giant melee that takes 40% of their offense and 60% of their starting lineup out of commission, then swoop in and play them short handed. 3) Be so good that you nearly make it through the season undefeated, AND catch a slumping team that was barely hanging on in the rankings because they started out in the top 10 and hadn't quite spiraled all the way down to what wound up being a 6-5 start. Anyone who may be wondering whether I overlooked road upsets by Memphis, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, Butler, VCU... Nope. I didn't. Even they didn't manage the feat.
  4. Thank you, sir. I don't mean to get off on a rant here, but... I'm glad I didn't undermine your "I'm a polite smoker" argument by telling everyone about the time I saw you put out a cigarette on a newborn baby's forehead. I certainly can't deny that you were smiling politely and making eye contact while you did it. Ninjaface.
  5. http://sportsblogs.star-telegram.com/colleges/2012/05/tcu-hoops-land-arkansas-transfer-and-former-seagoville-hs-standout-devonta-abron.html Star Telegram quotes a release from TCU and HC Trent Johnson.
  6. I believe the threat of smoking was best enunciated in the 4 primary theses of Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three.
  7. There is no part of the Constitution that says that. You're thinking of the Declaration of Independence.
  8. Edo says on Twitter (with apologies to CBL) that North Texas (and Colorado State) offered hm scholarships today.
  9. If you were the Rangers GM, you'd have been in the dugout after the 2nd home run, jinxing the whole thing.
  10. Yes. Nebraska gave him a release from his LOI, so he's eligible in the fall for us.
  11. Were we? Odoh never met our new coach, and our new coach seemed to have Coleman on speed dial as soon as he was officially given the job. I don't know how it worked out... I don't think any of us do for sure. How sure are we that the school was willing to follow through on the LOI he signed?
  12. He came in from a 3A school and played 96 total minutes, most of them in very short spurts, almost all of them on an injured leg that had him walking (to say nothing of running and jumping) with a noticeable limp. Not much there to provide a solid basis for evaluation, in my opinion.
  13. He already signed his LOI according to A&M-CC's press release. Pye is not going to be on our team.
  14. 20 conference games... 10 home and 10 away. UTA at the Pit At Mississippi State At Kansas State for at least 2 NIT Season Tip-Off games Should be 5 or 6 others at most (not including additional NIT Season Tip-Off games... those count as part of the MTE and aren't additional games against our limit). There seemed to be 2 slots to fill, in terms of calendar, back before the coaching staff changed. We usually buy 2 or 3 home games against Southland or SWAC type teams to fill out the home slate, but no contracts that I've heard about.
  15. Interesting. If I remember right, this guy was playing a 6th man role with his JUCO team. That's a little concerning... But, he was also a Freshman in terms of eligibility, and JUCO coaches do tend to start and spotlight guys who are sophomores and will have to move on. So, maybe it's not as big a concern? This probably answers any lingering questions about Odoh, for better or worse. I hope we let him out of the LOI quickly so he can land somewhere. Tough situation for him... Verbal and retraction at Southern Miss, LOI and release from us... I hope he can get himself somewhere that allows him an opportunity to play and get an education.
  16. Armelin can go pound sand. We needed that guy 2 years ago. We don't need him now. Petteway, I was hoping he'd last another year at Tech so we could try and bring him in as a 2013. After that suspension, I can't say I'm shocked he only stuck around one season.
  17. Common ground. Chico's is all right by me.
  18. If he's eligible (and it looks like he will be), he's starting at the 3. Possibly the 2. Just my guess.
  19. Brilliant In Hello nasty, Pioneer.
  20. Switching teams in the summer can be dangerous. Wait too long to make a decision, and you may not get a home you want. Sometimes you end up at Oklahoma Wesleyan. The guy had already done a recruiting tour and been courted by BCS schools. If he found what he was looking for here... No sense dragging it out.
  21. 1. Keith Frazier 2. Baseball 3. International basketball preseason exhibition for 2013-14 season 4 and 5 I'm keeping in reserve for now. Those are the big 3 for me, though.
