The CAA conference tournament will only have 7 teams playing in it this year. 12 members in 2011-12, 3 are leaving this year or next (VCU, ODU, and Georgia State) and are being intentionally excluded from the tournament. 2 others are ineligible for the postseason due to APR issues, which usually means being barred from a conference tournament and a shot at an autobid. I think they're almost at the point of scrapping the whole thing and just drawing a team name out of a hat. Looks like a very good year to be Drexel.

Trying to say this as non-judgmentally as possible... (I like Benford and I'm excited to have him). While Benford was at his previous employer, they showed absolutely zero hesitation to cut loose a player when a better option came along for the school. Didn't matter if the kid was a November signee, a post-early signing verbal, or someone who had just inked with them 5 weeks earlier in the summer. If I recall correctly, it didn't matter if he'd already spent a year or two enrolled at school and contributing on the floor. Given that philosophy, I don't think it matters when we sign or get verbals. If that mentality carries over to North Texas, we'll start every year with the most talented roster the coaches think they can assemble and retain. For better or for worse.

For now... I'll probably merge all the threads about Norris and pin them in the Recruiting Forum later tonight or sometime over the weekend. -

https://twitter.com/TXboysbasketbal/status/213727588940648448 Story coming tonight here: http://www.texasboysbasketball.com/ Since he went JUCO, should be a class of 2013 verbal? One of our 6 ships in that class. -

Is it reasonable to assume that you'll be making the trip?

2013 HS - Shirmane Thomas - 6'2" PG
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in UNT Basketball Recruiting
Not to derail Thomas' thread, but Williams has interest from Colorado State, Evansville, SFA, Yale, Rice, UNC Greensboro, and Furman, among others. His AAU team says that Rice is particularly interested. -
With 4 Preseason NIT games, (apparently) 7 other non-conference games, and 20 Sun Belt games... We're looking at 31 regular season games before starting the SBC tournament.
-
So, thinking it over... We've got a marquee MTE to open the year. Otherwise, the non-conference schedule will be: Jackson State, a Southland game we're buying, UTA, buying a home opener, selling 2 paycheck games, and one TBD series that we'll potentially have to start on the road. 14-15 home games (SWAC, Southland, UTA, home opener, possibly the home side of a new series). It may be that UTA winds up being the marquee OOC home game on next year's schedule. EDIT: I forgot, because I assume we're going to be the 3rd seed in our NIT pod. But, if we're the 2nd seed and don't make it to Madison Square Garden... We'll host a consolation round pod of 4 teams. So that would be 2 more home games against other consolation bracket teams. Not sure if those games would be included in the season ticket package.
-
Looks like we need 4 more games. And apparently Bart Lundy is the point man on assembling the schedule (taking over for Luster, who took the responsibility over from Leonard and Foy). Still looking to buy a home opener on Nov. 16th or 17th. 3 other slots to fill: the weekend after Thanksgiving, the first week of December, and a game between the end of finals week and Christmas. The listing we put up says we're hoping to start a new home-and-home, either here or on the road. 2 of those are apparently guarantee games that we're selling, so maybe the Mississippi State game isn't happening? Either that, or we'd selling 3 games in the same year... And I can't remember the last time that happened.

New Orleans Losing Its Daily Newspaper - WOW
TheTastyGreek replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Newspapers are just a shameful hip hoppy Almanac. Good riddance. -
I'm now looking forward to the radio broadcasts for those games.
-
We sell games to make budget and buy 2 or more other home games every year.
-
If I remember correctly, that's an SBC rule that will be in full force this season. Would have been last year, but Waters granted a one game waiver when most schools complained.
-
From what I understand, we have 24 out of 29 potential games locked in (assuming the NIT Season Tip-Off counts as 1 game towards the schedule... if it counts as 2, that goes up to 25). That doesn't include the rumored Mississippi State game. Depending on how our MTE counts against max games and if the Mississippi State game is a sure thing... We could have as few as 3 more games that are up in the air to one degree or another. Could be as many as 5.
-
I'd be surprised. Partly because most of our schedule is already set, and partly because we wouldn't be able to do a home-and-home series if we're going to play as conference opponents the following season. If we're going to sell a game, I'd rather see us sell one for BCS money and potential exposure if we were to win.

C-USA Future Schedule Question
TheTastyGreek replied to Mean Green Scrappy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
There's no reason to rule out a road trip/weekend flight to Bowling Green sometime around Christmas/New Year's. Home and home doesn't need to exclude the possibility of a visit to WKU. -

Will We Play Belt Schools In OC Games After Our Move ?
TheTastyGreek replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
If our athletics department had a dollar for every time we were major underdogs (along the lines of a 30+ point spread) who nobody thought had any real chance of pulling the upset... But, somehow came through with a shocking 21-14 win on the road against a barely over .500 power conference team... Somehow managing to rise to the occasion and defeat them and their legendary head coach (who was in a professional death spiral and soon to be forced out because of how he was dragging down their program)... Well, we'd have at least 2 dollars. -
C-USA Future Schedule Question
TheTastyGreek replied to Mean Green Scrappy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I believe that right now, it's 16 conference games- home and home in division, one game in the other division alternating home/away each year. If that schedule holds over, it's a very clean and balanced 19 game conference schedule. A little more than most conferences, which usually top out at 18... But 19 instead of 18 seems reasonable if it means everyone plays everyone. The other scenario, round robin in-division and every other year against the other division, would mean Old Dominion would only come to the Pit once every 4 years. Insert WKU joke here.
