  1. Wow... 2-20 is pretty terrible, but I still think this is shocking. Selig was the old wku ad, I think... He and Taylor must have hit it off like Dickey and RV if Taylor couldn't even get a full year's slack with that track record.
  2. This drove me nuts as well. To exclude those forums from your "View New Content" page, you just go down the options on the far left column of the screen. Under the sections for filter "By content type" and filter "By time period", there is an "Other" list. Click "Filter by forum", and you can un-click any sub-forums you don't want to have popping up in your "View New Content" results. I do not miss Coach Bill Lewis or The Commish. Also note- this is how you do it on the full version. Not sure you can change those settings on the mobile version... If you only surf on your phone, switch to full version (bottom left corner) long enough to make the filter change, and the results will still be excluded in mobile version forum usage.
  3. No way. But, this is probably going to get one or both coaches a reprimand from the conference, and it ought to lead to at least a one game suspension for Benford. Shanice got suspended for just chasing after a ref... Here, our coach actually cursed and had to be physically restrained from their coach, on the court during the game. Just this year, Sean Woods got suspended for a game for yelling at his own player during a game. Mike Rice got suspended for three games (and fined 50k) for cursing and inappropriate behavior. I definitely expect a suspension somewhere in that range (1-3 games) and hopefully a fine that we can sock away for the inevitable buyout somewhere down the line.
  4. You are kind to say that, but I most definitely am not. I wasn't even the most knowledgeable guy on the podcast, and that was a 2 man show. He was the brains, I was just sex appeal. To answer your question... Unless something happens that voids his contract or otherwise absolves us of our financial commitment to him... No. I don't think there is any way he gets terminated if we have to eat over one and a quarter million dollars in salary.
  5. I think with a full, healthy roster, he might have felt he had the backup necessary to charge at Brady and start swinging, instead of just pointing, yelling, and cursing. But, we'll never know for sure.
  6. For future reference: John Brady: "I told the officials this, I said: Y'all go ahead and call a double technical on me and the other coach. But let me tell ya- you guys know me. Y'all seen me coach a long career. I have NEVER said anything to the other coach. I'm always complimentary of the other coach. I don't get into verbage with the other coach... I don't do that. But I'm certainly not gonna let a first year coach curse me in the game and yell at me on my sideline in my building." There are 12 seconds of video after that, but no sound. Brady is still pretty animated and appears to continue talking about it.
  7. I don't know about GMG's Malcolm X... But I will confess that I imagine all North Texas sporting events with you calmly, gently narrating them. "I wish I could tell you that North Texas fought the good fight, and Tony Benford let them be. I wish I could tell you that - but basketball is no fairy-tale world."
  8. Not trying to pick a fight or anything, because hey- I think you're swell. But, counterpoint- Whatever 'hump' you feel we didn't get over under Johnny was an obstacle that wasn't even visible on the horizon when he started here. When he first got here, getting 'over the hump' meant double digit wins. Then, it meant winning a conference tournament game. Then, it meant making the NCAAs. Then, it was certain recruiting hurdles. Then, it meant winning the regular season. Then, it meant beating a power conference team. Then, it was beating a power conference team on the road. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. No matter what you do, there's always another hump to get over. And anyone, anywhere, is free to say "not good enough" about anything they feel like diminishing. I wish we'd won a tournament game. But even if we had, someone else could always bitch that we hadn't made a Sweet 16, or any other bar you want to set. I wish we'd beaten a ranked team. But, when you only get one or two chances a year, always on the road, usually against perennial powerhouses like Kansas or Texas, that's exceptionally improbable. That's why they pay teams to show up for those games. One of the humps JJ supposedly wasn't capable of getting over was beating a ranked team... But he did it last week (at home, I'll point out... an opportunity he never got here at NT) despite coaching a team that (in my opinion) is less talented than most of the ones he led in his last few years here at North Texas. He's gone, he left us. And honestly, I'm not that interested in defending his achievements or legacy to anyone who doesn't feel they were worthwhile. As far as I'm concerned, though, he did some amazing things here, and I will love that guy forever for what he accomplished and how he represented us. It doesn't matter what you do, there's always another hump to get over. And people will always be able to talk down your achievements by pointing to whatever the next hurdle would have been. Seriously, it's never, ever enough. There's always something else. Just ask Gary Williams.
  9. How about two?
  10. Only the 2nd time in 5 years that LSU has beaten a top 20 team.
  11. Google and a record book are only amazing to people too lazy or ignorant to actually look up quantifiable facts before spouting off their dumbass opinions.
  12. He only coached the best free throw shooting team in school history, 2 of the top 5, and I can't remember how many out of the top 10. Fire his ass.
  13. You can't describe the beauty of a sunset and do justice to its natural brilliance. Someone either sees it with their own eyes and appreciates the majesty, or they don't. Words can't explain true love.
  14. Every time the show took a timeout, Benford sent in a different assistant to talk.

  16. From the forum rules: The site owner and author posted a link, not the full text. If he wanted his work to be a forum post, he would have done so himself. Please do not cut and paste articles in full from outside GMG.
  17. Sick of internet. Also, sick. Nothing nice to say, saying nothing at all. Trying to resolve an issue with Chrome under the new board update. I think it's solved now. So, off again.
  18. Love means spelling a name correctly. Kaspar.
  19. 50 schools replaced basketball coaches in 2012. Two of them, Texas Tech and Connecticut, did so somewhat unexpectedly, and have one year interim coaches. Mike Davis at Texas Southern is also a last minute interim hire (August), and got a 4 year deal a few months later. Some, like Rider, SMU, Wagner, and Brown, are private schools and aren't subject to FOIA requests, and do not have to release contract details unless they want to. I've found 30 hires for which publicly announced or FOIA released information defined contract durations for 2012 new coaches. Less than 5 year contracts: 7 schools Air Force (3) - promoted assistant of a fired HC Eastern Illinois (3) - hired a community college HC Mississippi State (4) - contract over $1 million per year North Carolina A&T (4) - hired a coach (Cy Alexander) who had been unemployed for 3 years Southern Miss (4) Tulsa (4) Western Kentucky (4) - Harper got 4 years on top of the half season he spent as interim... So this one seems like a 4 and a half year deal. 5 years: 16 schools Binghamton Canisius Central Michigan Charleston Colorado State Illinois Illinois State Kansas State LSU Miami (Ohio) North Texas Ohio Southern Illinois UAB UNC-Greensboro Virginia Tech 6 years: 5 schools FIU Rhode Island South Carolina TCU Winthrop 7 years: 2 schools Duquesne Nebraska This is the market we were coach shopping in. For the coaches who got less than 5 year deals, most of them have asterisks, some being quite substantial. And for every school that landed a coach for under 5 years, there's another that had to give out a contract of 6 or 7 years.
  20. NO POLITICS OUTSIDE OF THE EAGLES NEST.
  21. If you expect all verbal commits to sign, and all signees to be put on scholarship and added to the roster for next season... Yes. If you expect recruiting to be a fluid process, where promises we make and take are revocable at will... Probably not.
