UNT Men’s basketball: French connection
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If anyone wants to claim Keith Coleman or P.J. Hardwick as the x-factor, I believe they are still up for grabs. Everyone else is accounted for. +1 though. Nothing but love.- 4 replies

UNT President V. Lane Rawlins is Retiring
TheTastyGreek replied to James329's topic in Mean Green Football
Retiring this year. Gave a rousing but rambling speech at halftime of the Utah State basketball game where he claimed UT-Arlington is going to the national championship game (not just the tournament, not the sweet 16, not the final 4... TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP. Where they will presumably lose, because Spaniolo didn't specifically state they'd win) http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/06/18/4041703/spaniolo-announces-surprise-retirement.html -

Most successful basketball coach in Texas deserves a shot

I believe curtisdaa, and I think it's beyond unfortunate how that may have been handled. Because in 2 years (sooner?), Kaspar is one of the guys I'd love to have in here to handle what it seems will be a rebuilding effort. But, and I don't mean this as any criticism of Kaspar, I don't think he was the right choice for us last year. In 2 years, we probably won't be the best choice for him... But last year, he wasn't the right guy at the right time. Turns out, the guy we hired wasn't the right guy for us this year (or any year?)... But Kaspar as a top notch titanium square peg wasn't going to be a better fit for what this season could/should have been than the deceptively round-looking balsa wood peg we wound up trying to fit into our round hole. Good coach, great season at SFA this year. I will be interested to see where he does end up next season. -
I like Overlander; I hope he doesn't get screwed out of the opportunity to stick around here long enough to solve whatever's troubling him and deliver on his potential as a player. But, at this point... I'd be willing to settle for just a made basket. For the first time in over a month (seven games).

If you're talking about the guy who looks like the judge from "My Cousin Vinny", his name is Rick Hartzell. He works a handful of our games every year... More this year than usual, it seems like. I don't think we saw Gary Maxwell all year (speaking of 'real life experience' with getting threatened with ejection). And, not sure if you knew... Curtis Shaw is now director of officiating (or some title like that) for the Big 12 conference. So I think we're both safe, for the time being.

Rice Game vs, UNT on Halloween - National TV!
TheTastyGreek replied to CaliMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
There is roughly a zero percent chance FX preempts Thursday primetime programming for cusa football. -
ESPN 3 now now now for anyone interested. Down 10 under 3 to play, now tied. EDIT: 16 seconds left, LSU with the ball to take the last shot in a tie game. Unreal comeback against the 2nd ranked team in the SEC. 2nd EDIT: Overtime. Strongly encourage anyone who likes JJ or college bball to check this one out on ESPN3. Best game on at the moment, by far 3rd EDIT: Double OT. Get in on this if you can. 4th EDIT: Triple OT 5th and final: Ballgame. LSU wins by 3 in triple overtime. Great game.

UNT star out of starting lineup

I think that if Tony didn't have a naturally sleepy look to him, he'd get a lot more credit for effort and enthusiasm. -
Is there a boycott I didn't hear about?

A little herky-jerky, but one hell of a piano player. -
I wasn't shooting at a target, I was swinging at a ball on a tee. More posters!

The last time we had injury problems like this, it was ugly. We only won 22 games and wound up 5 seconds away from the NCAA tournament.

3 months ago, you repeatedly told me that this would be a 10 win team. I said you were right that we were in for a rough year, but that just rolling out the basketball and throwing away the chalkboard ought to get us at least a .500 year. 14-15 wins, minimum. I was wrong, you were right. If you're still coming to games, I owe you a drink.
-
Hope for the best. If we win out on the regular season, sweep through Hot Springs, earn the auto-bid, win the play-in game, and then go on to be the first ever 16 seed to upset a #1... We could still win 20 games this year.

Most guys who get canned, I wouldn't say that its a great idea. The last guy who took a buck in the sun belt (i think) was Isiah Thomas, after getting fired by the Knicks.
