  1. Shut out of the NCAA and NIT this year. She didn't even make it past the first game of the Big 12 tournament. Troubling trend... The Baylor thing is pretty damning. Knowing that's a criteria, I'd keep an eye on Geno Auriemma. One of two or three that checks their boxes.
  2. No, I meant... And I didn't see that post a week ago... But, no one believes what their telling us. Personally, I don't blame them for lying because of the panic that will occur. Plus, they (CDC) know where their directives come from and who they have to protect if they want to keep their jobs.
  3. I wish Ebola Rick could self quarantine with Covid-19 Rick in a room with no internet.
  4. Happy belated Valentine's Day?
  5. Doctor, please show my work at least a basic human level of respect. We're not all out there, saving lives, healing the sick, stopping disease... But anyone who puts in a hard day's work is doing their part to make a better world. Even if it looks "yucky" from your lab coat ivory tower. A simple apology, like the one I gave you when you took issue with something I said, would suffice.
  6. We at GMG are always striving to cultivate a more respectful, appropriate atmosphere for both members and administrators. Our solemn duty is to make this a safe and happy community for all, be they miserable douchebags, just plain douchebags, or neither of the above. As such, we always take constructive criticism in the spirit of support, guidance, and opportunity for improvement, as it was no doubt intended. Today, after extensive consultation among the moderation team, we have implemented a new word filter. No longer will anyone throw around hurtful words like the four letter synonym for The Manufacturing of Sweet Love that starts with the letter "F". Instead, That Hurtful Word will instead autocorrect to the gentlemanly, kind, encouraging, and wholesome phrase of "douchebag". I think we can all agree that That F Word For The Physical Act of Sexual Intimacy is the province of the hatemonger, the simpleton, or the uncultured. Now, we will instead only see the honorable, nourishing, community-building word "douchebag" instead. So, if you want to tell someone they're a miserable douchebag, that they're a douchebaging idiot and a constant douchebaging drain on this community and most likely society at large, and that they are welcome to go douchebag themselves until they keel over and die of exhaustion... Too bad! It'll automatically adjust That Word to "douchebag" instead. We feel, and I'm sure at least one of you agrees, that it's a much more civilized way to address one another. Should anyone take issue with this change in policy, you're invited to file a formal complaint, or feel welcome to just douchebag right off.
  7. All week, I have been expressing my gratitude that a person with your credentials and knowledge would share advice and wisdom about the ongoing pandemic with the rest of us here on GMG. I don't know for sure if your expertise is in virology or epidemiology, but I'm damn glad to have a doctor here with the insight and expertise to help guide us all through this challenging time. But I do not appreciate you diminishing and demeaning my profession by calling me a "monkey". Just because I didn't spend 6 years in Affiliated With Medical School like you did, doesn't mean I'm an idiot or my career is a joke. It might be mere labor, but it's still work. The fact that it's labor doesn't make me a monkey, or imply that any random ape could do my job instead. And the nature of what I do may seem off-putting or unpalatable to you... But I don't appreciate you calling it "yuck". It's honest work, and it's important work. I'll thank you to treat my career with the same respect I treat yours, even if you don't think it's worthy of the same level of regard.
  8. In this thread: Miserable f***s who get indignant about Vito providing historical context in a way that's required for a casual, unfamiliar audience by nature of his medium and trade, because anything he writes may be the first time much or most of his print and online audience learns about the topic. So, they bitch about it and attack him (over context-providing statements of fact), in the exact same bitter ways, for a consistent and familiar GMG audience that DOES see it every single time because we're here all the time and we all know it already. NOT in this thread: Any appreciation for irony.
  9. We're damn lucky to have an expert medical professional here, taking time away from their critical work in keeping this pandemic under control, updating all of us simple folk here at GMG. Show some respect for his credentials, and some appreciation for his generosity of wisdom. Doctor, please accept my apology on behalf of Quoner. Keep up the good work, on all fronts.
  10. Please don't argue with the doctor. Besides, hip epidemiologists knew about it earlier. Squares like you and the WHO caught on late, after COVID-19 was played out and yesterday's news. By December, it was basically the Nickelback of viral epidemics. Now, we're into an eclectic Bolivian disease... Sort of a hantavirus, but with reggaeton influences. Way more authentic, way more credibility. I'd mention the name, but I'm sure you've never heard of it.
  11. Typical millennial crap... Demanding a participation trophy when we didn't even participate.
  12. Silver lining? I have the first perfect bracket in history. I didn't put any teams on it yet, and that's exactly what happened.
  13. You could always pick up a mistress or a drug habit.
  14. GODDAMMIT CORONAVIRUS, LEAVE RITA WILSON AND HER HUSBAND ALONE. Also, the NBA has suspended all games after tonight indefinitely because Rudy Gobert is apparently sick with it too. But, RITA WILSON. We wouldn't have "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" without her. Also, her husband is somewhat popular, too.
  15. Chinese, Italians, the elderly... No big deal. But now, the coronavirus has finally killed something that matters: The NCAA Tournament. Not cool, coronavirus. Not cool at all.
  16. We've come a long, long way in 5 years here. And I don't mean the basketball team.
  17. Take your dad with you, Rico.
  18. Frankly, I don't even want kids who played for their high school team in the first place. If they were serious about being here, they'd save themselves for college.
  19. I am, as always, proud to serve and grateful for your appreciation.
  20. That's not me, buddy. That's a mirror. Maybe you're getting addled in your advanced years.
  21. This isn't hard. Kobe Bryant initially denied even having sex with the girl. Eventually, he admitted bending her over a chair and "strangling" her. She says she fought and tried to say "no" but couldn't because she was BEING STRANGLED. When police asked him whether he was strangling her so hard she wouldn't be able to speak, he said: "My hands are strong. I don't know." His rationale for saying he'd have known she didn't want to have sex with him was that, once he eased up on choking her, he heard her say "no" when he asked if he could "cum on her face". Her blood was on his clothes. He admitted he choked her hard enough to leave bruises on her neck and jaw. After he was free of the criminal case, he even said "I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter.” So... He admits he strangled her, he had her blood on him, and after the fact, he even said he knows she didn't consent to having sex with him. But, yeah, no conviction. He got off, then he got off, and technically he was never found guilty in court. Maybe Elton John can write "Candle in the Wind 2020 (Strangulation and Vaginal Trauma Remix)" in his honor.
  22. Kobe Bryant admitted to police that he "strangled" (his word) the girl from behind without her consent. Doctors evaluating her confirmed tears to her vagina and other genital trauma consistent with assault. The girl refused to testify after months of identity leaks, death threats, public shaming about her underwear, her prescription medication, allegations of suicide attempts, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. So, he got out of a criminal prosecution. And then he paid over $2 million to avoid having to deal with a civil case. OJ Simpson was never convicted of murder. He was even acquitted! I look forward to our gauzy celebrations of his 2000 yard rushing achievement when he dies.
  23. When Jerry Sandusky dies, the obituaries aren't going to focus on the fact that he's a Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Famer. They aren't going to headline his two Assistant Coach of the Year awards. It'll be heartbreaking to Sandusky's wife and six kids. But nobody is going to call his death, however and whenever it happens, a tragedy. LaVar Arrington and the other pro athletes he coached may feel a certain sense of sorrow at his loss, but it won't be the story that dominates his passing. The picture that accompanies his obit won't be him getting doused and carried off the field after the Alamo Bowl shutout win over A&M that ended his career. It'll be his mugshot. Because he's a fucking rapist. For Sandusky, that's what people will remember. Too bad for him he didn't have a jump shot or speak Italian.
  24. Who said anything about his kid? That IS a tragedy. But, the thread I replied to, Adler's, is clearly titled: KOBE BRYANT dead. And when I posted, he was the only named fatality. So, am I sad for the children and others who died in the accident? Yes, I am. But Kobe? No regrets. Stand by my comment. If the Sports Rapist Hall of Fame were still an active institution, he'd be a 1st ballot unanimous selection. Kobe Bryant bent a 19 year old girl over a chair, choked her, had sex with her without her consent while she was crying and struggling to get away from him, and left her bleeding, with bruises around her throat. Him being dead isn't a tragedy. Everyone else, sure. Not that guy. If the mountainside didn't ask his consent before the collision? That's not a tragedy, that's irony. And I know the disturbingly widespread opinion around here (not accusing either of you two of anything; I have no idea where you've been on the Briles and other examples discussed so frequently around here) is that there's no need to speak ill over someone just because they're rape-facilitating, rape-obscuring, or otherwise rape-adjacent... As long as they're good at sports-ing, forgive and forget and attack anyone who still cares about it. But this guy was the active rapist, and almost everything I mentioned above he admitted to when speaking to police. Anyone on board with Team Kobe is welcome to go fuck themselves. Just get affirmative consent from yourself first. No apologies for heading off the thoughts and prayersing in his wake, knowing how these things tend to go. My only apology here is to @Censored by Laurie. Sorry for any offense you took at my use of commas. It's not my first language; I just do my best. I hope we can make amends and move forward.
