I don't know... I think a Nightline/Iranian Hostage Crisis podcast approach could work. Otherwise, we have to find another mutual interest.

Yep. A little off on that one... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_von_Hindenburg

Even if he is... Expect it.

Yup. No matter how or why this is happening, it sucks. I've been pretty critical on how our new coach has handled personnel and staff issues, but I'm trying not jumping to any conclusions here. Although, as someone pointed out... Overlander was just tweeting a few days ago about being excited to practice in the new facility. If Overlander decided to leave on his own, it's unfortunate and I'm sorry to see him go. He was obviously struggling this year, but I don't think he somehow magically forgot how to shoot a basketball once he threw his cap in the air on high school graduation day. But he did look incredibly uncomfortable much of the time, and the program he signed with is not the one he showed up to play for. So, I wouldn't blame him, but it sucks to see such a quick exit for a guy who was so obviously excited to come play for us. If we're pushing him out, then that's even more unfortunate. As rough a year as he had... There are 13 scholarship players, and an exceptionally deep team might give notable minutes to 9 or 10, at most. Those other 3 chairs on the bench can go to a transfer (like Taylor)... But when they don't, there are worse options than having a guard with reasonable height and the potential to be an outside shooting threat, who also makes good grades (wasn't there hypothetical talk of him having the grades for an academic ride?). Or a 6'10" guy like Knox who also makes honor roll. Anyway... I'd hoped Overlander could develop into a Taggart Lockhart type guy for us... But it's tough for anyone to develop into anything when we keep losing guys after a year. I'll be interested to see if Overlander goes elsewhere to play basketball or if he does what Knox did and decides to just focus on school.

Unfortunate.

Don't forget the injuries.

http://triblive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/college/s_786191.html#axzz2OKETqLMI Road teams, I believe, are invitees. I don't think they're paying (which is why Houston hosted and Texas played there), or at least not paying anything but their own travel expenses. Hosting is an expensive boondoggle. If we got a road bid to one of these, I'd say take it. If we had to go on the hook for a potential price tag in the mid-six figures as a host, I'd probably pass. -

I still like you, Curtis. I had them in the Elite Eight. -

Oy... Warrior is out his national champ and three of his Final Four. Tough break on that one. I believe the bragging rights will reside elsewhere this year (probably not with me, either). -

LaSalle Coach - John Giannini (Link to UNT)
TheTastyGreek replied to UNTDude's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Seriously, he's awesome. Typical North Texas... I bet we didn't even try to interview him. This is why we're stuck in the Sun Belt. -

He'd never get us over whatever hump was next on the horizon. -
LaSalle Coach - John Giannini (Link to UNT)
TheTastyGreek replied to UNTDude's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Nah. He took 8 years to even make it to the NIT. He's never finished higher than 5th in his conference. 9 games below .500 at LaSalle going into this year. No regular season championships, no tournament championships. 0-15 against ranked teams coming into this season. You'd have wanted him fired 6 years ago. -
DRC: Mitchell felt like it was right time to go
TheTastyGreek replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
One, I'm not arguing with you. I'm mocking you and undermining the hypothetical values and priorities you ascribe to our coach by pointing out how he's actually acted when faced with hard choices on ethics and morality in how he runs our program. Two, live with whatever you want to live with. Other than using you as a springboard for jokes and comedy, I don't care what you do, say, or think, so long as you obey the forum rules. -

Dear Trey: Coach Benford is busy re-hanging suits, but he asked me to send you a letter in his place. Unfortunately, scholarship opportunities are limited. Do you have 7 years of coaching experience and an academic passion for Interdisciplinary Studies? If not, I'm afraid there still isn't a place for you at North Texas. Chin up and bundle up, young man. I took a geography class last semester, and we learned it gets awfully cold up there in South Dakota. Hugs and kisses- Cody -

Dear Like-A-Dad: I keep hearing about your upstanding values, ethics, and morals. How you're forcing people to honor their obligations and be men of character. How education is coming first under you. Can I have my scholarship back? Love- Trey -
Looking Ahead: Georgia vs. North Texas, Never
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Talk, nothing. Been planning on it since the game was announced. I thought we were carpooling. CBL, if you decide to come through Atlanta for the game, we can save you a rental car and pick you up at the airport. -
Tony Mitchell In Process Of Enrolling @North Texas!

Our basketball program needed reconstruction like our next football coach is going to need a new stadium. Meaning to say... Unless he tears down what others spent a long time building... Not at all. -
UTSA won a 16 seed matchup in 2011. I think that's probably the most recent win.

Use lower case "unt" instead of capital letters. That fixed the problem for me. -

If I can get a 4th suit back from the dry cleaners in time, I'm in. -
I know its a bit, and I'm sure you're aware of his recruits... But, seriously- first .500 or better SEC record in 4 or 5 years right off the bat... With the group he has coming in, they could be an elite 8 or final 4 contender in 2 years.

North Texas Injuries compared to Utah State's
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Or a split with ULM? Just a split. Injuries, y'know. Also, it feels relevant to point out that devastating injury problems have limited Utah State to a mere 19 wins. Not 19 losses. -
UNT Men’s basketball: French connection

If anyone wants to claim Keith Coleman or P.J. Hardwick as the x-factor, I believe they are still up for grabs. Everyone else is accounted for. +1 though. Nothing but love.- 4 replies
