Worse. We were already effed under Dodge, and that year of recruiting and pit digging we gave him just made things worse. With Benford? Losing 2/3rds of the roster in a year with a doomed coach means that whoever gets hired will lose the talent we do have, and get to rebuild with a team of all new players he either didn't recruit, or brought in with less than a month of lead time, after much of the talent has already signed in November. Firing Benford now means we can be back on track quickly, and the new coach can assemble his own team next year rather than face a long rebuild with what may be poorly matched parts. Keeping Benford, even for half a season, could mean a 3-4 year crater even after he's gone.

We might be nearing the end of this nightmare. Why wouldn't I be excited?
-
This guy gets it, too! Seriously... There's no way we're not considering terminating Benford. I truly believe it's under serious consideration at this point.
-
See? It's not hopeless. We may actually fire Benford. I honestly believe we might just show we give a damn about not destroying our program and turning it into a total rebuilding project for someone else a year from now. I think we'll show the same level of seriousness about maintaining a respectable program as at least four of our historically most successful conference mates have done (with much less justification and serious, valid reasons to delay) within the past 5 years alone. This could still happen. Don't give up hope. Keep the tombstone chiseler on standby, this one could really be coming.

Is Stephen F. Austin this season's Florida Gulf Coast?
TheTastyGreek replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We lost to SFA by 34 points. Against a Southland schedule, only 3 teams did as bad or worse. Matching us in futility was Division 3 Elmhurst, which also lost to SFA by 34 points back on December 21st. Slightly less successful than us was Texas-Tyler, another Division 3 school that lost to them by 36 points in SFA's opener on November 8th. To be fair, though, the game was only an exhibition for Texas-Tyler. Their actual season didn't start for another two weeks. Division 3 schools, for anyone who doesn't know, do not offer athletic scholarships. Also not offering athletic scholarships for several years? New Orleans, which went without scholarships while attempting to transition out of Division 1 sports entirely. They signed their first scholarship basketball players again less than 2 years ago, and this is their first year as a Southland member, as a transitional D1 school. They lost to SFA by 40 points. Outscored us by ten, though, so good for them! 9 Division 1 teams that have lost or will lose 20+ games all performed better against SFA than we did. Most of them did it on the road. The only schools as bad as us or worse either offer no athletic scholarships, or have been offering scholarships for less than 2 years. Benford!- 20 replies

They need the next Seneca Wallace if they want to be the next Florida Gulf Coast. Otherwise, they'll just be looking up at the next Boise State.- 20 replies

France has Top 25 Nation potential. Nothing embarrassing about that. The problem with men today is the childish immaturity that leads them to listen to Edith Piaf.

Serious question... Does the rest of the forum not see the acronym mouseover I added a few months back? If not, I may need to change some group settings. Because this is such a common question, I set it up so that anyone who hovers over the abbreviation will always and automatically see a one sentence explanation. Is anyone (not on mobile devices) not seeing that? -
Look, I'm not saying the Fuhrer is blameless. But if you aren't showing up at the rallies, clapping and cheering... Can you really say that you support the Reichstag? I don't think you can.

We should pay him and the rest of the athletics staff with credit hours and cafeteria scrip. 4 year commitment from them, but we can bail out on the deal any time. And if they don't like it, then they hate America. -

Red hat is a thankless gig. Tell him he's doing a good job once in a while. -
If the day ever comes when our best and brightest are devoting themselves to slip and slide Canada Ball instead of a real sport like football... Brother, you may as well wrap sweet Lady Liberty's head with a French flag blindfold and put a bullet through her heart. Because the communists will have officially won.

I want baseball, too. And an indoor practice facility. Also, why are those helmets so expensive? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE.

Better question: can I imagine it without getting a flagboner? Answer: obviously not.
