I think Mitchell could blow Karl Malone out of the water, either now or 3 years ago. If they played first to 40, I don't know that Karl would even score before T-Mitch ran him out of the game. Schedule the 1-on-1, and let's test this theory at the GMG game. (Yes, I know what you really meant.)

I don't think that was possible when Lyons was here. I may be wrong; someone please correct me in a brusque and insulting way if I'm mistaken.... I think he was here in the gap between MVC and Southland. So, no conference to lead. Also, he played before the 3 point line was a thing... So no 3 point percentage crown. Call it a tie for first? Going for basically a 17 and 10 average over an entire season, before the three-point line, is pretty mind blowing. Freshman or not.

No disrespect to Keyshawn Woods, who I didn't realize was a freshman until reading the Dorn/Norton box score.

The two frontrunners for FOTY in our conference actually played each other tonight. Likely favorite Torin Dorn had a 16 and 5 night, and inconsistent contender Nick Norton blew up for 26 points and 5 assists. I'm glad Combs is a Freshman, and I can't wait to see what he does in his career here, which hopefully lasts 4 full years and involves half or more years under a coach not named Benford.

Vito Says Thompson is HOF-Worthy

Is Tina Slinker in the HOF? -
So, what's our official position on step down-erers? Obviously, we don't NEED them, in the most literal sense of the word. But, can we miss them and appreciate them? If Dunham absolutely must be a transfer (who I'm sure has a perfectly valid reason for leaving), I'm just sad to see him go.

"They are not going to quit. Im not going to let them quit. These guys are going to work hard every day. No one is giving up around here. You can print that." Vito... When you print that, be sure to include quotes from Wesley and Gaines. I'd love to hear their take on Benford's strong words here.

Is Coach Wintrich Still Here?
TheTastyGreek replied to MeanGreenWithEnvy's topic in Mean Green Football
Anything I don't know anything about obviously can't be all that complicated... Other people do it, and they aren't me. So, it stands to reason that I could probably do it better with no trouble, because I'm better than most people. If anything, people who do the things I can't be bothered to care about are worthy of nothing more than my contempt. One, for being inferior. Two, for having lousy taste in their interests (defined as: incongruent with my own). If Coach Mac wants to save some money, I'll work freelance as the S&C coach. I'll show up in Denton two or three times per week, tell the guys to get stronger and work on their conditioning, and make sure there are bagels or something available. Maybe a fruit plate from Tom Thumb? Boom. Problem solved. Don't need to dig up Zombie Landry for that one, geniuses. -
Check out those baggy pants... It looks like he might skip leg day.

Has UNT held you back personally?

Lane Rawlins... You all know the man. And most of you know of the indignities he heaped on me, the vile fool. The gravest insult, I can't even bring myself to repeat. I turned the tables on him during the Homecoming Parade, though... Oh, yes, I did. I lured him down into the catacombs of the Super Pit with the promise of an unopened case of original, Imperial Sugar Dublin Dr. Pepper. And distracted under the spell of his own lustful thirst, I did chain him to the wall, and entombed him there in the long deserted basketball Mean Green Club room. None have trod there in several years. And Rawlins still rests, chained behind the bricks. In pace requiescat, Lane. -

I was a successful young sailing captain, excited to marry my lovely and wealthy fiancee. Unfortunately for me, the wicked and devious cabal of Eric Capper, Gretchen Bataille, and Sujay Lama were conspiring against me! I spent fourteen hellish years in an island prison... All the while, those three despicable snakes stole my wealth, my good name... Even my beloved wife-to-be. But that most bitter of fuels, vengeance postponed, sustained me through it all, and my plans for justice will soon be sprung! They will learn, as all should know, that all human wisdom is contained in these two words: Fire and Benford! -

Meh... Just appreciate the irony, would you?

Jitter Nolen invited me to the spring formal. I was so happy... But it all turned out to be a big prank at my expense. He and his friends dumped a bucket of pig's blood on my head, and everyone pointed and laughed. I showed them, though... -

Norval Pohl foreclosed on my Pappy's farm. It had been ours for nigh on four generations, but they done took that land right out from under us. -

You want to talk about troubling trends in coaching??? Shanice, since her ouster here, has split her time between selling some sort of multi-level marketing health and energy drink deal, and with a business devoted to the purchase of precious metals. Measuring prices today vs. the week she was fired in 2011... Gold is down 17% and Silver is down 54%. Say what you will about Petersen, but at least he hasn't destroyed the international bond market or anything. If Benford goes to work at the Fed after we finally get rid of him, RUN FOR CANADA IMMEDIATELY.

Hypothetical question: If Tony Benford and Vic Trilli were given teams that were identical clones, and faced off against each other in a perfectly even battle where only their wits and coaching acumen made the difference... Who would win? Better question: All that, AND we invite Mike Petersen to referee the game. Could we implode the Super Pit before any of the three of them could escape with their lives? And, if so, do cloned basketball players have real souls? If yes... Would the moral crime of murdering 16 clones outweigh the good it would mean for North Texas basketball? Ethics is hard. Let's throw it to the phone lines. Looking to hear from YOU, North suburbs!

Trilli vs. Benford, round 3: Tony Benford lost to a Division 2 school. Vic Trilli never did.
-
Trilli vs. Benford, round 2: In his first two seasons against conference foes, Vic Trilli went 9-23. In his first two seasons against conference foes, Tony Benford went 13-23.

Tony Benford beat Texas A&M in his 45th game as UNT's head coach. Vic Trilli beat Texas A&M in his 55th game as UNT's head coach. Vic Trilli was fired exactly 52 games later. Assuming a 1-and-done in the CUSA tournament, we'll end this season exactly 50 games after Benford's A&M win. If historical trends hold, maybe we'll fire Benford after this year? Maybe early November of 2015 at the latest? Dare to dream.

It might at least bump up the tempo, depending on who tried it.
