MGB breaking news -- UNT set to hire Mitchell
TheTastyGreek replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Agreed. Wish her nothing but success. Counterpoint: How many times have we said that about a new coach in the past 15 years? -
Wishing the Mean Green a Happy Easter

The timing of all this is/was very unorthodox. -
No, you dove into Social Security, which has absolutely nothing to do with Abbott, or Commencement, or anything relating to non-Cage nonsense. You posted something with NOTHING to do about the thread at hand (which is the only part I deleted), and likely to split the thread into yet another political mess. So, don't do that again. If you have an Abbott opinion, obviously there's a slightly longer leash than usual since it's relevant to the topic at hand. But don't branch out. If you don't agree that you did... It doesn't matter. Refer to the rule about arguing with mods about board policy. And if you need to continue the conversation, send me a PM.

I'm sure there's a small but vocal group of people there who think this is a good thing for VCU, since it's been 4 years and Smart has yet to take them to the next level.

Couldn't one argue that Jackson was Paul Westhead if Westhead had been shot to death in the Spectrum parking lot the night of May 16th, 1980?

Wait... If that's the REAL Robbie Vanderslice... Who was the impostor walking around in his jersey for the Dodge years?

I think Roger Franklin got one. -
They got effed so hard in this game, and it makes me smile.

Cooley, the difference is that one guy took over a program that had a foundation of quality talent in place and a 6 year run of sustained success, and screwed it up. The other took over a program that was brought about as low as this school has ever been in this sport, and made them winners (something Benford has yet to achieve) in his first year. There is nothing identical about their circumstances, and there certainly isn't anything identical about their results. JJ had to rebuild something, Benford couldn't even manage to sustain (to say nothing of exceeding the level of success he inherited). JJ succeeded, year one, and took another 4 years to make the next leap up. Benford failed miserably, and has yet to even achieve after three full seasons what JJ did in his first year (above .500 overall and/or in conference). Factor in the off-court baggage Benford has brought or created, and I can't fathom how you see the two guys as comparable in any way, at least not with regard to having a 4-5 year runway to satisfy the fans. I'll give the next guy 5 years, because he'll be rebuilding a disaster. But Benford? He dug his own damn hole, and that doesn't entitle him to one or two or four more years to try and climb out of it. EDIT: The next guy doesn't automatically get 5... If they pull any off-court crap like what REALLY bothers me about Benford, then we ought to fire them for cause.

One game over. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head, though.

He was actually over .500 (both overall and in conference).

Straight from the forum rules, Vito: Pull a stunt like this again, and you'll be suspended. -

Top candidates to replace Coach Pete

And she makes under $60k where she is now. We could conceivably sign her to a favorable deal and not be stuck in a bad buyout situation if things didn't work out. -
2015 CUSA Men's Basketball Tournament
TheTastyGreek replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Exactly. RPI has ZERO opinion involved, at least beyond setting the formula, none of which involves subjective opinion based on anything that could favor the power conferences. If you stripped the names off of every team and gave me 3 pieces of information (winner, loser, home/away/neutral location) for every game played this season, the RPI rankings I came up with would be identical to what exists now. -

Conspiracy therories? Brace yourselves, sheeple... Putin probably just depressurized, lost consciousness, and wound up somewhere in the Indian Ocean. -
You know like few others, sir.

I just wish Petersen and Benford looked more alike, and that Benford was willing to do a far, far better thing than he has ever done on the way to a far, far better rest than just a short vacation before recruiting season.

HR doesn't "see" me. HR *fears* me.

Let me know who else we need to potentially liase with on this one. Hoping to achieve clarity on best practices for this value-driven process. Even if you're out-of-pocket for this afternoon, we can online you shortly thereafter. Want to maintain a forward lean on this one, so we can be action-ready immediately.

I'll email you meeting notes. You're probably not mission-critical for the deliverables on this action item, and we can download to you later as needed. Also, metrics. And synergy.
