He'd better... Otherwise, I have no idea how we're going to get him his sandwich. Office address is all I have.

Damarcus Smith is warming up on the sidelines
TheTastyGreek replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
Agreed. McNulty wasn't the reason we lost this game. If this were his floor, not his (apparent) ceiling? We could legitimately be a pretty good team. If everyone had played at his level, this would have been a win. I'm not saying that glimmers of adequacy mean he ought to get a long leash... If you told me we were going another direction at QB next week, even after a decent performance? I wouldn't complain. But, that's not going to happen. As was pointed out to me before today's kickoff... It was probably insanity to think Coach Mac wouldn't give McNulty the chance to start a game in Iowa. After next week, though? Who knows what we see. -

Um, this was a success. Despite weather and other issues, this was a success. Could have been more under ideal circumstances, but we didn't give up until we achieved success. Full update coming Monday, after the meltdowns are over and we're ready for good news. -
You can't argue with results, Dan.

Two wives and a one year old... We had to bail on the tailgate. Eating at Rudys. I'll catch up with you after kickoff. -
ThIs really, really sucks. Wasn't even on the radar forecast when I left home. And the radar keeps showing more and more coming.

Raining sideways now. This sucks, weather-wise. Sucks pretty hard.

GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in Mean Green Football
Good news: Two great UNT alums who can't make the game just met us in the Sack and Save parking lot and contributed $1.85. That brings us up to a total of $4.36! Bad news: It's pouring rain here, and we may not be able to set up and grill. Not sure how significantly the weather is going to impact our fundraising. -
If either of you guys finds any change in the parking lot, go ahead and grab it. I'll be there in 10 hours or so.

Met up with another alum who won't be in the stands for tomorrow's game, but wanted to do his part... We have another 28 cents, people! That brings us up to: $2.51! We should be all set up in the lot by 11 a.m. tomorrow, so be sure and stop by with your pocket change if you want to see this program succeed. -

GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in Mean Green Football
I am very happy to announce that I met with a prominent UNT alum today, and when I made my pitch for a sandwich donation... He contributed 17 cents! That brings us to a total of: $2.23! This initiative is really going well. My hope is that tomorrow, when everyone is able to contribute in person, we really catch fire and push this Sandwich Crowdfund over the top! Again, for anyone who doesn't know where to find the donation box... Look for the green Greek flag in the tailgating area, or PM me for better directions if you know you have a pocket full of change. Now, someone raised a troubling possibility with me in private. Given the history of Tulsa and Northern Arizona sabotaging our efforts to grow and prosper as a program... What if someone (perhaps, a Tulsa Fan in Texas?) goes to the Which Wich near my house and buys up all the gift cards? Can they stop us from making this happen? NO. THEY CAN NOT STOP US. Some people may be willing to let Tulsa or Northern Arizona stop them from achieving their goals. Some people might run into some resistance, give up, and blame their lack of success on what Tulsa or Northern Arizona may or may not have done... BUT WE WILL NOT. If I have to drive to the next Which Wich to find a gift card, then that's what I'll do. And if that location is sold out too? Then I'll get on the phone and call every one I can find until someone has an availability to meet our needs. This sandwich gift card is happening. Don't anyone worry... If you all pull together and donate enough to finance it? Then I will move heaven, earth, car, and toppings to make sure the gift card is bought and delivered. GO MEAN GREEN. GO SANDWICH. HOORAY, FUTURE! -

GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in Mean Green Football
This is a fair point. My original plan was just to mail the gift card to RV. BUT, if the Athletics Department wants to make a show of things and really publicize our efforts to show Rick a better sandwich option... I would be willing to do a special presentation ceremony at halftime of our next game, October 10th against Portland State. It's homecoming, so I'm not sure if they have anything planned for that game or not. In the interest of pageantry and making everyone happy, I would also be willing to wear a full band uniform, complete with plumed hat, during the presentation ceremony. If, of course, a uniform can be provided for me. The fact is, we don't have a lot of donors on this project, and certainly not at the level of financial commitment you've shown. I definitely don't want to alienate you, and if that means a big, showy halftime presentation ceremony in full band uniform? Well, I'm up for it if the Athletics Department folks are. -
I am uncomfortable with his lascivious horndoggery. I like my podcasting with fewer instances of the word "slizz" and so forth. Seriously, though... He good. Not enough sandwich talk for my liking, but otherwise pretty strong.

GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal

This is fantastic. I know that you're busy with a newborn baby now, and won't be in attendance on Saturday. So, I went ahead and put another $1.25 in the box on your behalf. I expect you will reimburse me at your earliest opportunity. The good news is that, combined with my initial 81 cents... The crowdfunding effort currently stands at: $2.06 Obviously, this is very exciting. We're less than $4 away from hitting our first level goal, and the donation box hasn't even left my house yet! I don't want to get ahead of things... But, it looks very likely that we'll be mailing Rick V. the means to buy an inspirational sandwich. -
Where, in the CFL? Because if you're talking about the NFL, you're about 145 picks off on that.

I love the #Hit$6 idea. It's a low bar, but it's the first goal. Not the final goal. Ultimately, I want to raise $1400 and poison Tony Benford. But, the first step on a long journey is to buy Rick V. one sandwich, no sides or beverage. And we need to #Hit$6 to make that happen. Anything that raises awareness, hashtag it away. -
GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal
TheTastyGreek replied to TheTastyGreek's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm very excited to see how everyone has embraced the crowdfund campaign. And, I apologize for not updating things yesterday... The world was surprised by the early arrival (two weeks ahead of schedule) of little Quoner, Jr. 8 pounds, 4 ounces; baby and family are both doing wonderfully. Now then... We received a mockup of what the gift cards could look like: Option A: Option B: Option C: Option D: Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a green-themed option available. But, I'd like to put these options to the group and let everyone discuss and decide which type of gift card to buy for Rick V. Personally, I'd go with Option D. The text helps reinforce the 'strive for more' message of the card, and the exclamation point is a built-in challenge/call to action. My least favorite choice is Option A, which looks like a flower field of poorly drawn red lollipop dildos planted on a planet with an atmosphere made up of cardboard. If you plan on contributing at least two cents this Saturday, then I'd love to hear your two cents on the matter. -

Um... Did you forget about the Crowdfunded Sandwich Initiative? -
Do you have any loose change in your pocket? Would you be willing to put it in this cigar box so that we can buy Rick Villarreal a decent sandwich?

GMG Crowdfund, Round 2: A Delicious Proposal

Jersey Mike's is also good! But, after careful deliberation, I decided to push this initiative forward through Which Wich for three reasons: 1) There's a Which Wich 2.2 miles away from the Athletics Center, while the nearest Jersey Mike's is over 5 miles away. There are TWO Which Wich locations closer than that! 2) While Jersey Mike's offers a fine sandwich, one on par with the offerings of Which Wich (and FAR superior to the ghastly sorrow-fodder on the menu at Jimmy Johns), Which Wich has superior offerings in terms of sides and desserts. While I do enjoy a bag of Miss Vickie's chips... Those and more are all on offer at Which Wich, along with baked goods, house chips, and a variety of milkshakes. Remember... We're trying to show Rick V. that he can, should, and MUST demand more. And, that there may be a whole world of options out there that he's not even aware of! The overall Which Wich experience seems better suited to making that emotional and psychological breakthrough. 3) The experience of a decent sandwich after a history of Jimmy Johns consumption may be overwhelming to Rick, like a diver rising too quickly and suffering from decompression sickness. When faced with such a variety of savory options, Rick may become light headed... He may be frightened, and attempt to flee the building. Fortunately, the Which Wich specialized bag ordering process should enable Rick to make the transition to a quality sandwich with minimal personal trauma and maximum effectiveness. If anyone else wants to collect change to buy Rick a gift card to Jersey Mike's... Decorate your own box, and I will support you. I bought a bottle of water today, and I have 8 cents ready to donate if I can find you at this Saturday's game. The nearest Great Outdoors is over 35 minutes away from the Athletics Center, without accounting for traffic. We're trying to make an immediate impact here. I'm not saying we're trying to inspire Rick to strive for a Sandwich National Championship here. This is a first step, and a small one. We're just trying to open his eyes to the level of quality and success that is assumed as fundamental at locations all across the country. If we can open his eyes and his stomach to what's possible at any place that's willing to make a minimum effort and require certain basic standards of decency... Maybe he'll apply that philosophy elsewhere, too. If this works, and you want to push for a 2016 crowdfund for a Great Outdoors gift card... I will support you. You can have the change in my pocket when that day comes. We've always heard excuses about how our circumstances in Denton are uniquely challenging, and that what other people have done to succeed elsewhere can't or won't apply to a Denton university. I like Sub Hub, but a gift card there sends entirely the wrong message. I don't want Rick to think that there's some hopeless magic formula to succeed in Denton that no one else can replicate. I want us to show Rick how anyone with a basic level of effort and competence can come to Denton and achieve delicious success, right on University Drive. And then again on Bell Avenue. I'll eat at Sub Hub, to show my support and appreciation. And if it gets Rick V. out of his Jimmy Johns funk? Fine, I support it. But, if we're pitching in to show him a new way? I want Rick to try the Which Wich experience. It doesn't necessarily take a lot more to get a lot more. All you have to do is try a little. To want it, to insist on it, and to believe that you can and should get it, and that it's not unreasonable to expect it. Don't poison your body and soul with Jimmy Johns. DEMAND MORE. You can have it! It's within your grasp, and for roughly the same amount of money!
