Great pictures, but I don't see any RV photos. You're not making the most of your talents, Cerebus.

Let's not get too critical. This is not unusual.

I'm Fed Up At The Hits On Dodge And The Players
TheTastyGreek replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I know for sure. Louisiana Tech 34, North Texas 31 3 interceptions, 2 lost fumbles. No blocked punts, even though Denis Hopovac had to fill in for Truman Spencer. FAU 17, North Texas 16 3 interceptions, 1 lost fumble. No blocked punts... but it's the only other game where we had 4 turnovers. So there's your comparison to last year. Not trying to prove any point here, just eliminating the "don't know for sure". -
We're Playing For Next Season Now
TheTastyGreek replied to the real grad88's topic in Mean Green Football
I (and I'm not the only one) expected something different. And I don't think that the expecations were out of line. From a different post in a different thread, here's what I expected: Mean Green 93-98 made a good point about the strength of Troy, so I amended my 2008 expecation to Bowl Game, with Troy being the only team I'd tolerate losing the conference championship to. I expected something very, very different. I'm not calling for anyone to be fired, but I'm also not blind to the fact that we are doing very poorly when, in my uneducated and relatively uninformed observation, we should be doing much better THIS YEAR. If we don't start playing for THIS season at some point, then next season never gets here. -
I'm Fed Up At The Hits On Dodge And The Players

Poof. Like magic, MTSU gets good field position. I wish the football fairy that let them start there would wave her magic wand over us. Or at least give us some sort of ability to impact and influence where MTSU gets the ball. Whether that be through special teams execution or ball control on offense. And as for the safeties, I guess we should just take a knee in the end zone any time we get pinned inside the 5. It certainly isn't the fault of the coaches that with the... Oh, fiddle-dee-dee! Another safety! Best not to think about it. Surely not anyone's fault. -

Do you think Phillips is going to transfer, or did you just forget him?

I wish I could be there, but I'm going to be stuck at work. It looks like the next game I'll be able to make will be Western Kentucky.

Promise me that if we beat you another 5 straight years, you won't fire YOUR head coach.

Well put. Thank you for posting this. Concern and optimism can coexist. And it doesn't make you a bad fan.

Who Cares If We Suck This Year?

I care if we suck this year. And on what should be an unrelated note: Stop blaming Dickey already. -
Troy Defense Prepares For U N T Attack

Is it just me, or does it seem like "Naive" must have been on Coach Dodge's Word-of-the-Day calendar last week? -

Once again... I don't mean to sound glib, though it feels inevitable. What would constitute PESSIMISM about the defense, at this point? That we're going to give up 600 yards instead of 500? That we'll start giving up TDs in drives that last less than 1 minute, rather than just less than 2 minutes? When your defense ranks dead last in Division 1-A, it's impossible to be pessimistic and expect things to get any worse. They're already worse than anything and everything else. Not a call for anyone's job, just a factual observation. Optimism and neutrality are the only options when you're at the bottom. Either you expect things will get better or you expect things will stay the same. You can't get worse than the worst. Now watch us go out and give up 80 points to La-Monroe, and make me regret that statement.

I don't look at most of his opinions as BS or ridiculous. I've told him so privately in the past, and I'll say so now publicly. I sure don't agree with everything the guy says, but I am glad to have him on the board. Even when I don't agree with him, I can appreciate something in the reasoning behind his posts. Which is more than I can say for a LOT of people on this board, who lack anything resembling reasoning or logical thought behind their posts. Hang in there, Fake Lonnie. This, too, shall pass.

Well An Impression Was Made On This Caju Fan
TheTastyGreek replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Not to sound glib... But if he's such a great S&C Coach, why have we been getting pushed off the line and why are we hearing so many excuses about guys being out of condition or showing up in bad shape? Not saying that I know anything about the guy or his methods... But don't the results sort of speak for themselves? -
The Real Reason We Are Getting Drilled
TheTastyGreek replied to the real grad88's topic in Mean Green Football
I had the misfortune of having to sit through the Carter/Mesquite game last week. They paid me, but they damn sure didn't pay me enough. Sub-Dickeyball. 44-7, I believe, and I believe that the 7 for Carter came in the last 4 minutes. Handoff, handoff, handoff. And not much on defense. If we want anyone from Carter... They sure didn't make me notice them in that game. -

Thy will be done. Please pass the mashed potatoes. -
Brilliant. Very well put. I don't think you needed the Clyde example... This an excellent and clearly reasoned discussion of the subject. Given that, it's likely to be completely ignored. I just wanted to let you know that someone noticed.

8 more games, maximum. It seems to me that it's almost irrelevant, in terms of outcomes this season, who starts or finishes or anything inbetween at Quarterback. I think Dodge has done an amazing job with Meager, and I think Vizza has a ton of potential. I really don't much care who he puts on the field. We won't win until the parts of the team that don't involve a Quarterback (well... that don't involve a QB that isn't a crouching Matt Phillips) improve dramatically.

Fixed that for you. -
I still dream about the glory days of that Willie Ransom, Chase Pistole, Tim Patton, and T.J. "Big Cat" Raymond monster defensive line. Unfortunately, there's a reason I only get to dream about it.
