  1. This is a great question. Good job of putting the tradeoff in perspective. I would rather be us, having 4 consecutive conference championships and the temporary reduction of 5 scholarships, than Troy (with two bowl trips and a full complement) or anyone else in the Belt.
  2. Quoner4Unity is dead. And a new signature is born.
  3. Any relation to Steve Warren?
  4. The best face for any organization is the face of a pretty girl. That was the concept behind the Mean Green Dollies, if I remember my history correctly.
  5. Thanks. For my next trick... I'm going to dumb things down significantly. It should be a North Texas crowd pleaser.
  6. This all could have been avoided if we'd just hired the reanimated corpse of Zombie Landry. You think any NCAA stooge is going to even think about slapping us with sanctions if Zombie Landry is there to zap them with lasers? Heck no.
  7. We're 2-9, baby! PARTY AT MY PLACE. Screw all the haters who said these NCAA sanctions would hurt the football program. The season is still 4 months away, and Dodge is ALREADY improving his win-loss record!
  8. Unfortunately, everyone Schnelly coached against in his younger days is now dead. It's tough to schedule a home-and-home with Bo Schembechler's rotting corpse.
  9. Looking at the reports... In Basketball: Arkansas State has an APR of 893. That's 32 points below minimum. They're not suffering any contemporaneous penalty, they have a first-occasion Historical Penalty of "public notice". No listed scholarship penalty. North Texas has an APR of 924. One point below minimum. Our contemporaneous penalty? Loss of a scholarship. In Football: Florida Atlantic has an APR of 915. Their penalty is 3 lost scholarships (82 max, not 85) and a maximum of 22 issued in one year. Florida International has an APR of 887. They lose 3 scholarships (82 max, not 85) and they are also restricted to a maximum of 22 issued in a year. North Texas has an APR of 917. Higher than either FIU or FAU. OUR penalty? We lose 5 scholarships. Our max is now 80. What the hell??? How do these penalties work??
  10. Start your tivo at the beginning of the game, then rewind 3-6 seconds so that the video will be synchronized with the radio broadcast.
  11. There's a difference between not being contacted and not having an offer on the table. I'll be very sad if we hold this scholarship or spend it on a transfer that's not a big impact player. I've played up the Greek angle for a lot of humor, but there's no denying that a 6'9" kid who can shoot from the outside AND rebound when needed could really be an impact guy here. 6'9" on the wing creates so many mismatches... It would help compensate for a lack of bulk (not height, but bulk) under the basket. Even if we were talking about someone named Alex Jones that had the exact same dimensions and skills, I'd love to see him on the court with Josh White (and Kedrick Hogans and Tristan Thompson) for the next 3 years. Transfers are great, but generally you only get them for two years. With a core like White/Hogans/Thompson/Vouyoukas for 3 years... Even without a pure point or a potentially dominating force at the 5 like Wooden, that's the core of a team with a lot to like. I trust Coach Jones and I'm sure whoever he decides to give this final scholarship to will deserve it. If he's got a line on someone else, or if he just doesn't think Vouyoukas fits in here, so be it. I'm very sad I won't have a Greek to cheer for, but I'm not a qualified evaluator of basketball talent. I do still hope to see Vouyoukas here next year, though. I'm not expecting it like I was about a week ago, but I'm still optimistic. It's not over until someone else accepts an NT offer or Vouyoukas signs an LOI with another school. According to what he told Quoner, he's not planning on making a final decision for a few more weeks. We'll see what happens.
  12. Not everyone puts as much hustle into analyzing other squads as CensoredByLaurie puts into previewing Sun Belt Basketball. Just speaking from my own experience... It can be very, very tough to track down worthwhile and reliable info on other Belt teams unless you're dedicated to the chore. We're lucky to have the folks in our fan base who share the knowledge about conference opponents that comes from their passion for NT sports. That said, this is particularly weak. I can't really fault the author for not following our staff comings and goings so closely, but I do think they could have at least gotten our win-loss record right. We were 2-10, not 1-10. Unless they're not counting our win over WKU... But even if not, that should be identified. Also, I don't see any jokes about fluffy kittens. Why bother writing anything for internet publication if you don't include some fluffy kitten jokes??
  13. Um... You do realize that everyone in the NFL attended college and high school, right? And that for every NFL hoodlum, there are more than 10 times as many NCAA criminals?
  14. Expect at least one TV report tomorrow.
  15. This kid may be 7 feet tall... But can he call upon the spirit of Naismithedes, the Greek God of Basketball? Did this guy's great-great-great-great-(etc.)-Grandfather invent algebra or philosophy? Can he hold his ouzo? Can he get a restraining order fast enough to stop me from strangling him to death with my bare hands if he steals a scholarship away from Alex Vouyoukas? If the answer to any of those questions is "no", I think it's best to give young Alex the chance to choose us before offering a scholarship to this guy or anyone else.
  16. There's no ship for him when Vouyoukas signs.
  17. Pictures of Vouyoukas in action from the Blair Academy website:
  18. Agreed. Lucky for her she proofread carefully and didn't accidentally turn in her booklet for success at SMU or UTA.
  19. Check out Smitty's Mean Green World for lots of Flying Worm stuff. Make sure you ask permission before reproducing his stuff... But if nothing else, any one of a number of the Flying Worm images could work as guides for you to reproduce your own. There's a large version of the Flying Worm on one of his wallpapers here.
  20. He was a Dodge recruit who played briefly as a true freshman last season.
  21. Make sure they're all wearing their T-Shirts.
  22. I'll pay you a billion dollars if you keep quiet about it.
