  1. I really had no intention of going so negative, and I fully intend on backing away from the keyboard after this... But that statement just isn't true. The first series was two delayed handoffs and a skipped ball pass. Classic Dickeyball. The second series, 1st and 10 on our own 20 after a touchback, we had to call timeout because we couldn't get a play called. My biggest frustration with Meager under Dickey and Flanagan was failure to get a play off on time and the frequent need to call timeout because of poor offensive communication. Then, 3rd series, we call things off (according to Todd Dodge).
  2. One other point that hasn't been made: If every handoff had gone in for a touchdown, we'd have scored 26 TDs! Even if every extra point got blocked, that's still 156 points, more than enough to have won the game handily. I love you, hypothetical alternate reality!
  3. I'm most disgusted by the fact that our coach has admitted going for the "let's just get this over with" gameplan to keep the defense off the field and the score low... And we still lost by 39 points.
  4. Home games are televised because producing home games is much cheaper than going on the road. The crew that is going to be used to produce the non-ESPN Gameplan TXA broadcasts consists of just under two dozen people. If it's a local game, the price tag for production is their time, plus the time of the production truck, plus whatever the guy in charge wants to make on top of that so it's worth his while. For a road game, you have to throw in hotels, food, and other per diem considerations for anyone who can't be hired locally. Typically, only about 5 of those people can be replaced with locals. There's also the satellite truck that's needed to beam the game back for broadcast. If it's a local game, TXA (or whoever) can just use one of their news trucks for the duration of the game, plus 30 minutes at the beginning and end. If it's a road game, the station either has to send a truck out on the road (and pay for lodging, food, overtime for the operator, etc.) and lose the ability to use it for normal purposes, or pay a 3rd party for the use of a satellite truck and operator in the destination city. Which is not cheap. It may be an SMU conspiracy why one other station didn't get their business together to make a serious play for NT football rights FOUR MONTHS AGO, but it isn't a conspiracy that makes road games so expensive.
  5. The reason theirs was so redundant was because aside from the pre-game, they only do it after scoring. We just let them score a lot.
  6. So did we. WKU is provisional.
  7. To add on to what D2007 said about the subbing... We were shuttling defensive front 7 players on and off on almost every play. Not only does it give more guys experience on the field... But one thing I haven't yet read elsewhere (still getting caught up) is how well this subbing philosophy seems to be helping Ike Thomas. When I noticed someone breaking through and really putting heat on Freeman or Coffman, it was usually Thomas. On one play, he would have smeared Freeman all over the turf, but he bit on a very good fake handoff. And Thomas played at his best in the 2nd half, which is very encouraging considering his history of conditioning and stamina. I'm not saying he's the second coming of Booger or anything... But if Thomas can break through against K-State as consistently as he did, I'm very eager to see how he performs against our C-USA and Sun Belt opponents.
  8. They're all out to get us! They're all out to get us!
  9. Not to kill your thunder or anything, but SMU does.
  10. I got my Bachelor's of Science in Physiognomy (Phrenology minor) and I can't tell you how many doors it's opened for me. I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing right now (specifically, lying naked in bed in a dark room at 2:00 in the afternoon, posting my thoughts on a college sports messageboard while cuddling a stuffed cow) if it weren't for my college education.
  11. They aren't serious about their local profile or reputation.
  12. Compare and contrast overall record from those years, too. Dickey vs. Nelson, et al isn't the only changing variable. The Texas we played in 1988 went 4-7.
  13. Still some issues to be worked out... Cantly's name is spelled wrong, for one.
  14. There are currently 196 Men's Division 1 soccer programs. Not saying I want soccer, but I don't agree that limited competition is the reason to say no.
  15. Garden was a Dodge recruit.
  16. Reincarnation? Are you sure? Isn't Schnellenberger old enough to have been the doctor that delivered baby Vince?
  17. Which one, the 10 year anniversary of the start of their season, or the 20 year anniversary of it's end? I always thought we'd be penalized by the NCAA for sending a team back in time like that... It just seems like it SHOULD be a rules violation.
  18. We could review the call, but there's no monitor at courtside. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do.
  19. I'd like the story direct from MeanGreenPOP, but my recollection is that Charlie was highly recruited as a DE coming out of high school. One of the reasons he chose North Texas was because of Dickey's promise to use him as a Tight End. The switch back to D-line only came because of the appendix-like uselessness of TEs in the original offense Dodge installed. Brown doesn't have experience on the college level, but if my memory isn't failing me, he could have gone to a higher profile school if he'd have been willing to play at DE from the start.
  20. I'm with Flyer and GMG1999. I think you have to hold the Athletics Department accountable for promotion and advertising of Athletics Department functions. They put it on the website... when almost nobody is checking the website because neither football nor basketball are actively in season. Someone here on GMG noticed and let everyone know, but only 4 days before the event. The office sent out email invites... The day before. This is Bataille's fault how? Now I'm not saying that's all the office did; I have no idea how they marketed this event. From what I've read here, this wasn't an event targeted at die-hard fans, so maybe they did direct mail or some other type of advertising targeted at the folks they did want in attendance. If they achieved their goals, good for them. But whether you think this event was a success or not, the blame or credit don't belong on Dr. B. It belongs with the people responsible for creating, executing, and promoting the event.
  21. Sounds like Dodge came in over the offseason and was looking to replace Vizza. Whereas we all know that Dodge was a new head coach... LAST SEASON and is the one who recruited Vizza and started him as a true freshman. That's some quality writing!
  22. Was there an announced deal with NMSU that I'm forgetting? I keep reading that we've got a home date with them, but I don't remember an announced series. If people are expecting a return game for last year's trip to Las Cruces... There shouldn't be one coming. Our game with them was part of a tournament they hosted. I do hope to see them at the Pit, but I don't remember for sure that an actual game has been announced. Help me out if anyone knows for sure.
  23. Seconded. EDIT: And, unlike some of his critics, at least the man can spell.
  24. I would gladly repay you on Tuesday for the price of a road trip to Idaho today.
  25. I'm just horrified that a local blog would mock any of the local colleges or universities. What is this world coming to?
