  1. Well, the chimp we hired isn't very chatty. And we're still a little broken up about things... Staring wistfully at the old TY Sports tandem bicycle, digging through the memory box and looking at boardwalk caricatures and airbrushed t-shirts that commemorated our good times... The memories are all we have. We loved you most of all. Even more than Brownie Sherridan.
  2. Next year they'll be Division 1-A. We have a lot of trouble with those teams.
  3. THAT'S what we ought to be teaching kids to make them really appreciate Veterans Day.
  4. The great thing about this year's roster is that even with the inevitable injuries, Mangrum won't be counted on to play a major role unless he's ready. If he breaks out, it's a great extra asset. And if he still needs more time to get his game back after surgery, he can take the time to do it. White, Odufuwa, Mangrum, Hogans, and Thompson all have three full years left to play together. That's a fantastic young core to be able to build around.
  5. I'll be there.
  6. From previous conversations, I think CBL sees Hogans as being in an unfortunate 'tweener' situation. He doesn't really have the build to be a true post and handle the 4, but he also doesn't quite have the outside game to be a 3. He's got great intensity and shot blocking skills, and he's tenacious under the basket. But he doesn't quite have the frame to bang around and log starter minutes. And while his height and frame could make him an ideal 3, he may not have the outside shot to play on the wing. I love Hogans, too... But after talking to CBL about him, I can understand the concern.
  7. If you're talking about what I think you're talking about... That was Texas A&M International. And you were guilty by association.
  8. Are you saying we shouldn't have tried to be so tricky?
  9. My BCS Championship has Utah taking on Boise State.
  10. ebone, Green Dozer, and others have asked why DeLoach doesn't appear to be held to the same standards that Mendoza was last year. It's a fair question, and I did my best to explain why I still believe he's going to turn the defense around. The numbers are still terrible, the results aren't obvious yet, but I do still have confidence in DeLoach's ability to turn this defense into a force again. For anyone who wants to see the DeLoach drive summaries I reference for comparison to last year, here you go: Kansas State: 4 yards for a TD in 0:00 (1 play) 43 yards for a TD in 0:59 (3 plays) Tulsa: 53 yards for a TD in 0:58 7 yards for a TD in 0:40 (3 plays) 50 yards for a TD in 0:25 (3 plays) 64 yards for a TD in 1:05 58 yards for a TD in 2:19 LSU: 59 yards for a TD in 1:39 60 yards for a TD in 1:56 36 yards for a TD in 1:50 (3 plays) Rice: 77 yards for a TD in 1:53 61 yards for a TD in 2:26 56 yards for a TD in 0:48 63 yards for a TD in 1:58 19 yards for a TD in 0:17 (2 plays) 21 yards for a TD in 1:01 (3 plays) 84 yards for a TD in 2:22 FIU: 65 yards for a TD in 0:10 75 yards for a TD in 0:52 35 yards for a TD in 0:26 (3 plays) 48 yards for a TD in 0:59 (3 plays) ULL: 80 yards for a TD in 0:57 89 yards for a TD in 1:59 84 yards for a TD in 1:50 ULM: 69 yards for a TD in 0:12 72 yards for a TD in 0:47 43 yards for a TD in 0:46 (2 plays) Troy: 65 yards for a TD in 2:21 49 yards for a TD in 0:47 (3 plays) 42 yards for a TD in 1:18 (3 plays) Western Kentucky: 60 yards for a TD in 2:01 62 yards for a TD in 0:19 32 yards for a TD in 0:20 (1 play) 26 yards for a TD in 0:08 (1 play) FAU: 60 yards for a TD in 1:37 71 yards for a TD in 1:08 60 yards for a TD in 2:23 57 yards for a TD in 0:12
  11. Actually, that's a Rudy Clark song. He wrote a ton of hit songs in the 60's and 70's. Here's the James Ray version from the early 60's: YReG0deRV4s As for George Harrison's version of "Got My Mind Set on You", it was successful thanks to Jeff Lynne. Jeff Lynne can make almost anything kick ass, even a spare part from a wildly overrated band 20 years past his "prime". Jeff Lynne eschews traditional toilet paper, choosing instead to wipe his ass with original covers of The White Album in a show of his superior talent and ability. [/end unnecessarily inflammatory musical hyperbole] Fun fact: Jeff Lynne accidentally killed Roy Orbison with an intense stare of reprimand. Orbison, drunk on hubris and feeling invincible after the success of his 1988 comeback solo album (produced by Lynne, of course), tried to jockey for a more prominent role in the planned second Traveling Wilburys album. Lynne gave him a stern look, and Orbison's heart stopped cold. George Harrison died because he crossed Lynne, too. That lung cancer stuff was all a bunch of hooey. Lynne had heard rumors that Harrison was withholding royalties from the surviving Wilburys, and called Harrison to scold him. As soon as Lynne raised his voice, Harrison was so terrified that his body physically could not take in or process oxygen, and he died. Bob Dylan and Tom Petty make it a point to send Lynne birthday and Christmas cards in a timely fashion, lest they arouse his ire and suffer the ultimate consequence.
  12. Well put. Good stuff throughout.
  13. Rick Stockstill says Mario Cristobal is an underachiever.
  14. Cause for optimism: Kirk Ferentz and company at Iowa just knocked off Penn State. Well... There's 1 second left. But for all intents and purposes, this is a done deal.
  15. Do you really want to have to wait 5 years for it to arrive, and then still be just hoping that it gets to the desired location?
  16. THIS IS A FOOTBALL TOWN!!!1!eleven!!1! Woooooo!!!!
  17. I'm sorry for the girls, and I'm sad they won't be moving on the NCAA Tournament. It's very unfortunate that their season came to an end earlier tonight; I was really hoping they'd get there this year. But, taking off my empathy hat and putting on my soccer-loathing hat for a moment... 23 minutes for the first goal to come, and then 67 minutes of running back and forth? Sounds absolutely riveting. KRAM, did you happen to tape the game? Could you post the highlights highlight on YouTube for us?
  18. No problem, and thanks for the kind words. I actually gave you more credit for being right than I gave myself. Worried that I may have had some sort of Tyler Durden episode, I went back through every post twice just to make sure I didn't actually post or get an outside piece of writing quoted in anyone else's post. And then after I asked the question, I went through and checked a third time.
  19. He's deceptively quick and agile for a big guy.
  20. !? I've made it a point NOT to post in this thread! What did I say that you agree with?
  21. In the past week, I've found out that I need a cornea transplant and quit on the spot at the job that, over the last 9 years, paid my way through college and gave me stability through three or four other careers. It's tough to sit down for hard core comedy. On top of that, I found out over the weekend that my probable future mother-in-law is apparently reading the site, which sets off sirens in my brain whenever I contemplate making any more posts about Sports Rapists or WKU goatf'ers or anything else like that. Also, we get all our copy approved by Vito to make sure it's negative enough, so with him out of town, it's been almost impossible to proof articles. It's just not an easy week for comedy.
  22. History in the making? Please. There are so many countries that have already had black heads-of-state, it's not even something I'm willing to research and count. The fact that we've finally gotten around to doing something so basic doesn't mean all is forgiven with the powers-that-be. I am still withholding my financial support for this country until I see some real improvement in the way we run our operation and how we handle citizen support in the America Department. I've already mailed back my 4th of July tickets with a note explaining why I can't support America unless Nancy Pelosi (she's so mean! And she never wears U.S. Flag clothing!) is replaced with someone else. And when are we going to solve the REAL problem? Mexico has had so many Hispanic presidents, I can't even tally them. Because of that vision for the future, their cuisine is dominating restaurants throughout our nation!! Can anyone say, PASSED US BY!!!? We need to act now before we fall even further behind our geographic and regional rivals, people!
  23. Spoken like a true Free Soiler. You're a traitor to your country, sir. Embrace the silver standard or suffer the tyranny of Portugese hegemony!!
  24. BOTH WRONG. Get your damn facts straight if you're going to vote, people. McGarrett is the pinnacle of their law enforcement. Dan-o was his enforcer. Class dismissed.
