Honestly... Middle Tennessee traveled pretty damn well to Mobile last year. 2nd biggest travel contingent after Western. Since both Middle and Arkansas State are coming off incredibly disappointing years, I wouldn't be surprised to see more Middle fans there than Arkansas State people, at least for a quarterfinal game. But hey, we're two hours closer to Hot Springs than Middle is. So, SURELY we'll travel better than they do, right? I mean, we had a better year AND we're more than 100 miles closer!

This game is gargantuan. Brobdingnagian. Epic like no game has ever been before. From what I've heard, Johnny Jones will have a cyanide tablet in his suit pocket, right under his tastefully folded and color coordinated pocket square. If we lose this game, Coach Jones will bite down and kill himself before even bothering to shake hands with Mike Jarvis. This game is so essential, so critical, so MEANINGFUL on an unimaginable scale that the earth itself may cease spinning for two hours because every single force in the universe will be singularly focused on our outcome vs. FAU. Huge? HUGE?? Why don't you just spit in Scrappy's face, sir. This game MATTERS.

The only people who think Vito is a negative NT basher are the ones who obviously don't pay attention to his coverage of basketball, soccer, or the other programs where we're not terrible. When you're writing about a program that could most generously be described as ALMOST the worst in Divison 1-A football two years in a row, the story is the sucking. I don't know how any non-University affiliated writer could come up with a much more positive take on things than what I just read.

So what you're saying is that basically, this is like a play-in game for the 4th seed? One thing is for certain... If we don't win this game, everyone who ever coached basketball at North Texas should be fired from whatever job they currently hold. If they've retired, they should be executed. And if they're already dead, we should dig them up and urinate on their decomposing bodies. THAT'S how important this game is. From what I understand, Johnny Jones has already contacted a realtor and put his house on the market. He knows that losing this game means instant termination, and he knows there would be no point in even coming back from Denver.

Serious face this time- I really don't think there's any chance of him coming here. If he didn't want to fight for a starting job at a Big 12 school when he was the odds-on favorite to get it... Why would he come here where he'd be all but certain of being a backup? I don't think he'd relish the thought of "competing" with another QB who has more eligibility left AND the genetic material of the head coach. And at the risk of people campaigning to have me fired from my job, we did finish 1-11 in the Sun Belt last year, so it's not like we're the most plum destination in the NCAA universe right now. If I didn't already have my North Texas connection established, as a 19 year old kid I'd probably lean more towards a free ride at Dartmouth or Penn rather than coming here and hoping Riley struggles or gets hurt. Honestly, the only way I see this guy even considering coming here is if he thinks Dodge will get fired after this season and Riley will transfer, leaving the door wide open for him to waltz in to a starting job after his transfer year is complete. But nobody here is going to try to sell him on the "Hey, we might fail again and all get fired, so come on down!" angle. At least, I hope they don't. So even though I agree that fan perception of his parents is irrelevant and he obviously has talent and a great prototypical build... I just don't think there's any way he ever comes here.

I think Shanice Stephens might get fired, too, just to really emphasize how unacceptable losing either of these games would be.

There is no play-in game. There are 3 teams with byes that advance directly to round two in Arkansas. The rest play in round one, hosted at the higher seeded team's gym. It's just the first round game.
