Here's a question for the moderators... The Non-UNT Sports forum is the only appropriate place for talk about the Rangers, Stars, Mavericks, and anything else that isn't North Texas related. But it's totally overrun by political talk. If this is going to be a message board with so much political discussion, and I'm not saying that it shouldn't be... Can we please add a separate forum for it? Because the Iraq war, Barack Obama, George Bush, and all the rest of the topics of most common discussion during our involuntary vacation are not Non-UNT Sports. If this is going to go so far beyond sports, then we should have a general discussion forum that's clearly just for general discussion. I'd also suggest/request that it be handled like the Recruiting forum, where people request to opt-in to read it. That keeps it off the screen for those who would rather ignore the discussions entirely. You could probably avoid a lot of problems that way. I know that a politics/general forum has been requested and rejected before, but that was back when political comments and discussion were strictly off limits. Now that the rules are different, perhaps it's time to change the forum structure to reflect those new rules. Set up a new General Discussion forum, pin a message on top of the non-UNT Sports (and any or all others) forum explaining to people that they need to PM a moderator to get access to the General Discussion forum, and then nobody has to see it if they don't want to. Just a thought.

Setting The Record Stright On The Apr
TheTastyGreek replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
From what I understand, based on the academic status of several players who will not be able to re-earn academic eligibility and avoid costing us that APR point... It is already mathematically impossible for us to get back in compliance and earn a 4 year average score above 925 on next year's report. -
Heckling material? CBL, any obscure gems on the Blue Raiders?

13 months ago today, I gave Cowboys fans a foolproof plan for guaranteeing a Super Bowl Championship. Use Roy Williams as a human sacrifice. Nobody listened, and Roy survived. The Cowboys lost in their first playoff game. This year, Roy did nothing but get injured and stand around on the sidelines. And now, he's been cut. So... If you had it to do over again, knowing that Roy would never do anything worthwhile in a Cowboys uniform again... Would you have murdered Roy Williams to guarantee the 2008 Super Bowl victory?

The NBA is an AMUUUUUUUUURRRRRCAN league! And we need to pander to the red blooded 'Muuuuurrrrcans, not some damn dirty furrinurs! I don't like basketball and I'd never pay to go to an NBA game. But I DEMAND TO BE PANDERED TO!!! My only problem with this whole Spanish Jersey thing is that we don't put THE Mavericks or THE Suns on any jerseys. It's just sloppy and crappy. But the NBA pushing an international presence isn't exactly a new concept. And we're not talking about painting a quincenera dress on the Mona Lisa here, people... It's just a basketball jersey.

Ot: Any Talk Of North Texas Baseball ?
TheTastyGreek replied to KAjunRaider's topic in Mean Green Athletics
Unfortunately, I'm still serving out my one year suspension from Premiball for using performance enhancers. I was busted using umbilical cords to boost my stats. But when I come back, I'm going to tear this league up! No more backne, crackne, or ballsacne, either! Living clean and playing mean, baby! Look out, Premiballers! -
Glad to hear it!

They brought a pretty good contingent to Denton a few weeks back. Talking to some of them, they've got a pretty good size group of students that are planning on making their presence known at Hot Springs. We'll see how that materializes, but Sunday and (potentially) Tuesday should have big, big UALR crowds.

One other thing I'd like to point out to the Coker vs. Dodge people... Coker's teams know how to beat Florida International. FNypDGoC_8M Until Dodge finally solves the riddle of the Golden Panthers, I think Coker has Sun Belt Scoreboard on him by T.K.O.
-
FIU can beat Western. I don't think the Golden Panthers are deep enough to survive 2 or 3 consecutive nights of games, but they can stand up with anyone in the Quarterfinals. If they can score the upset, depth is going to play a HUGE role in who makes the finals.

I don't even so much care about the recruiting angle... I just shiver when I think that our brilliant offensive guru didn't realize that losing Jackson would impact the offense in a significant, negative way.

A Sad Day
TheTastyGreek replied to Quoner's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Though Roy Williams may be gone, HISPANIC Roy Williams will live forever. Or at least for a few more years, when the cheap numbers and lettering start peeling off the discount jerseys. -
This is a crucial, CRITICAL one game stretch! This is the play-in game for the Semifinals! Winner of this game faces the winner of the WKU/FIU play-in game for a play-in game to the Conference Tournament Finals! (Which, in effect, is a play-in game for the NCAA Tournament!) I don't think it's a stretch to say that this is quite possibly the biggest, most critical one game stretch in our season so far. Can we win one straight against Middle Tennessee? Will we? If anyone needs a sense of perspective on just how huge this game is... The stakes are so high that Johnny Jones knows that his entire value as a coach (and a human being) will be determined by the outcome of this game. I'm told that Coach Jones has ordered a special bespoke suit. This one is just as dapper as all his others, but with a special feature: It's coated in kerosene. If somehow we don't fulfill our destiny and win this game, Coach Jones plans on self-immolating right there at the scorer's table after he finishes shaking hands with Kermit Davis.

Roll Call And What Will The Attendence Be ?
TheTastyGreek replied to calvin's topic in Mean Green Basketball
But what about Suh-MAAAAN-tuuuuuuh? -
So would it be in exceptionally poor taste (and overly optimistic) if I started the Countdown to 5 in the Football forum? Because I haven't given up hope that we might get there in 2009!
-
Student attendance was way higher when everyone paid their taxes and socialists were drawn and quartered on sight.

Fun story about Ashleigh Banfield... At her going away party in Dallas, before she went national with MSNBC, her... "surgical enhancement" was still relatively recent. Apparently, the novelty hadn't worn off for her, either, and she was quite happily offering pretty much anyone in attendance a sample squeeze.

Who Are Your Favorite Nt Defensive Players Of All-time
TheTastyGreek replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
No Don McGee or Adrian Awasom? -
I am humbled and shamed, sir. The bit about Quoner's high school success making him Dodgeworthy is a long running bit between the two of us. Does this mean you won't serve as his Defensive Coordinator?
-
I'd just like to say that Quoner did indeed tally three sacks against Denton Ryan back when he played football in high school. That part is not a joke. This next sentence might be. Because of his tremendous success at the high school level, I think we should hire Quoner as our next head coach. And give him at least 12-15 years to get us back to .500.
